The Wild Parrot Diamond Guyana 2012
The verdict here is unusually warm and unanimous: tasters are surprised how much depth this pulls off at only 13 years. Expect burnt Demerara sugar, dark dried fruit, black pepper and a minty, woody edge, with a velvety heavy-sweet finish that reads as molasses rather than sugary. Several note it needs time in the glass to really open up.

I had to retaste it where i left it a bit longer in the glass before giving it a go and it does actually open up a lot more with time (my bottle is only half full and has been that for a while). Scores better this time 😊 ------- #6250 17.01.2026 Giving this new emrelease a test run and I really like it. Nose Medium intense, wood, molasses, dried fruit, light mint, faint caramel. Palate Medium spicy, warm, peppery, wood, light roasted dried fruit, cinnamon, molasses. Finish Very long and warm, medium peppery, naturally sweet, molasses, raisin, light caramel. Empty glass Molasses, light chocolate, light caramel, raisin, nutmeg. Needs to rest for a good while to really open up properly.

A really outstanding Diamond. Great spicy nose with dried fruits, dark chocolate, brown sugar, molasses syrup, leather, licorice, and a hint of mint. Even better on the palate for me, nice light sweetness with great spice... very drinkable, which can be dangerous... 😜

Pretty complex for such a young age! After a first taste, I now also have the bottle at home and have drunk it several times, a great drop. Apparently, only 120 bottles were filled from the cask, which seems almost pointless to me considering the quality and the price. What on earth happened there?😯

A nice surprise, i did not usually appreciate recenti DDL rums but this one really stands out, pleasant and absolutely consistent with Guyana style with molasses liquorice and dried nuts that are the most prominent traits

Typical Diamond 2012 profile with a nice intensity and spiciness. Mint, licorice, molasses, salted caramel, black pepper, and black tea with lots of tannins. Alcohol is very well integrated. Nice bottling!

Tasted together with Kevin in Blåvand Fantastic rum that brings a lot of Guyana with it! On the nose, initially reserved, with slightly metallic hints of pencil, plus barrel and burnt sugar and light wood. On the tongue, dark wood comes through again, burnt Demerara sugar and dark fruits, a very velvety soft finish with heavy sweetness, but clearly Demerara and not "sickly sweet." Over time it opens up and becomes rounder and a bit more complex, the fruits come out better. In the finish, a nice honey note appears – a great bottling!

#1781 09-05-2026 - Rate 8.8 5th rum at birthday tasting This one took non by surprise. All but one had Guyana and one also had Diamond. And what a rum. Does not taste like a young rum only 13 years old.

On the nose, dark fruit, molasses, a bit of caramel, and spicy wood. On the palate, rather dry with oak, spices, and dried fruit. Also some dark chocolate and a fine bitterness in the finish. Solid Diamond with decent depth.

Great Diamond. I can only agree with Kevin on that.

Good Guyana rum, but has absolutely nothing to do with Velier's top class. Taste-wise, lots of molasses, licorice, wood, dark chocolate, tobacco, dark profile, but overall too flat, clearly lacking complexity.
