Was lucky enough to find this bottle in a Sapporo liquor store. Seeing it was selected by Mr. Nakayama of Bar Lamp for his Ocean Indien Rhum Club, I knew I had to grab it. Happy I did. On the nose it leads with fruit and wood, then spice but also has hints of smoke and some ester. It’s elegant yet heavy, and thick. Very vibrant and inviting. On the palate it is immediately sweet and fruity but less than the nose would suggest. That’s because the very elegant wood notes balance it out well and give it nice structure. This rum is very reminiscent of a fine cognac. Spice notes are again present in this well and there is a fresh menthol-like finish. A very fine and balanced New Grove rum.
