This is a Hampden where the ex-sherry cask does most of the talking: leather, licorice, sweet dried fruit and red wine up front, with the LFCH ester and overripe banana/pineapple sitting quietly underneath. #6382 21.02.2026 Enjoying a set of samples my friend brought for us to enjoy. A pretty decent bottling, but the prices seem to spin out of control especially here in Denmark. A medium intelse estery and fruity rum with pretty good balance between all the elements.

Man schmeckt zwar tropische Früchte und Ester, aber einen Hampden hätte ich auf Grund des krassen Fasseinflusses nicht zweifelsfrei erraten. Auch wenn es ein Ex-Sherryfass war riecht und schmeckt der Rum für mich primär nach Rotwein. Alkohol gut eingebunden, aber für mich kein Feuerwerk.

8,4:On the nose, esters, sherry, leather, sweet, thick molasses, roasted wood notes like burnt sugar, caramel, spicy with baking spices, some varnish, tropical fruits like banana and pineapple, red and dried fruits, bump into our nosetrils. On aeration, nuances of different fruits are obvious with raisins, dried apricots, dates, prunes and cherries, citrus, molasses is vegetal, roastedness brings chocolate, coffee, nuts and allspice. 7,8:On the palate, the attack is rather unpleasant, intense with burnt, sulphurous touch, meaty, bbq, rubber, medicinal with varnish, glue, settling with sweet red fruits, pineapple, banana, sherry dried apricots, raisins, prunes, dried sour cherry, citrus fruits and apple, roasted wood notes like caramel, spicy with allspice, tannic, as the molasses is herbaceous, vegetal with briny olive. 8:The finish is medium long, dry&tannic, with burnt rubber, phenol, fruity with sherry barrel impact fruits, tropical and citrus.The wood is roasted, smoky, spicy and molasses vegetal, earthy. This was a better Hampden though, phew :) Here the overripe tropical fruits are immediately noticeable, especially banana and pineapple again. The ester also comes through a bit, but it's just an LFCH after all.

The nose is wonderfully soft, with hints of cask, licorice, and sweet candies. On the palate, it opens with tropical fruit, menthol, and esters. The sherry cask influence is present throughout, including the finish, but not at all overpowering. The alcohol is well-integrated. For me, it's just right. I really enjoy it.

Oh man, what a repeat in the glass, constantly these ex-sherry finishes. Also here, like with the others that have been released on the market recently, the finish is too dominant and unfortunately ruins the base spirit.

Wow, single Cask by Hampden. It's must be interesting. But, fully matured in sherry cask. It's scary, 'cuz I'm try LROK by Velier 7 y.o. full sherry cask, and it was strange... Nose: Nice aromas of sherry, leather, licorice. Light esters, rubber, paint, glue, resin, nutmeg, apples, dry mango. Some dark chocolate, coffee, roasted notes, prunes & cigars. Hint of gunpowder. Palate: Fantastic ! Marzipan, liquor cherry, pineapple, mango, bananas, milk chocolate, woody, leather, spices, mace, clove. Some esters, solvents, paint. So amazing balanced between fruits, esters & sherry. Aftertaste: long and dry. Apples, leather, pineapple, oak, spices, dark chocolate, bitter in the end. Conclusion: Wow, it's really good rum ! If the nose, just good – palate absolutely fantastic ! You need to try it !
