Romdeluxe Hampden Wild Series Rum Jamaica No. 1 DOK 2009
"My first idea when tasted was pretty warm rum" — then people find out it's 85.2%. This is a Hampden DOK ester bomb: pineapple, banana, overripe tropical fruit, glue and solvent, with burnt caramel underneath. A few tasters call the alcohol integration remarkable for the strength, but everyone agrees it's too much to sip straight. Add a drop or two of water to open it up.

How does Romdeluxe Hampden Wild Series Rum Jamaica No. 1 DOK 2009 taste?
Aggregated from 23 community reviews.
Extreme 85% Hampden DOK ester bomb Loved for wild DOK esters and shockingly integrated 85% ABV. Almost nobody sips it neat — too hot and heavy. A sample-and-dilute bottle, not an everyday pour.

This one is a heavy hitter and hits your nose right after opening the bottle. Super high ABV that is well integrated and i get a hint of the Madeira Cask it was finished on. Add a drop or two of water to release all the flavours.

Day 15 of the Samples de Luxe calendar. An overwhelming nose of esters and fruit (banana, pineapple). Burnt caramel and smokiness. The palate is sharper than the nose. I think of a heat-crushed distillery with steam engines and overripe fruit. The finish is consistent with the palate, the bitterness increasing. The empty glass gives other aromas. Impossible to imagine an ABV beyond Stroh Rum! Impressive alcohol integration!

A heavyweight in the "who has the highest alcohol content" category, yet remarkably integrated. The nose is concentrated on exotic fruits and citrus, esters, glue, solvents and varnish like any good Hampden from the DOK mark, but not only. A spicy brisée on vanilla and pepper caresses the nostrils with a hint of caramel and a touch of olive. A Hampden that diversifies with a beautiful aromatic concentration. It's impossible to detect the degree of alcohol, however extreme, on the nose. The attack on the palate is explosive, with a veritable deflagration. Extremely powerful, the juice starts with intense phenolic notes, a spicy heat of pepper, vanilla and cinnamon, overripe exotic fruits (banana, pineapple), barrel notes and silky tannins. It's rounder after two hours of aeration. Beyond that, it's a well-crafted Hampden with plenty of aromas for its extreme level. The finish is grippy, astringent, warm and fermentative. Mango, papaya and pineapple provide a fruity framework, while cinnamon, anise and licorice lend a spicy bitterness that's not unpleasant. Vanilla and caramel round out the whole. A well-crafted rum, far from the alcoholic cliché. Nevertheless, it should be used sparingly in tasting and is not recommended for sensitive palates.

Viel Ester, das war’s dann auch schon. Statt pur trinken kann lieber einige aromatische Owh und Lfch damit pimpen.

Crazy abv. Loads of alcohol. Loads of flavour. Because of the abv% no idea what to with it. Too heavy for sipping. Nice to try a sample though.

My first idea when tasted was "pretty warm rum". Then I found out it is 85%. But still - it is warm, not burning throat.
