#5748 28.09.2025 Day two of the Whisky Live 2025, which this year looks better organized/arranged inside. A pretty OK release especially when looking at the price tag. Fruity with nice wood and ABV integration, still a bit sweet though.

So nun habe ich mal alle zwei neuen Abfüllungen von Stades probiert. Irgendwie so gar nicht mein Geschmack. Glaube mit den West Indies werde ich kein Freund mehr. Dieses rauchige erinnert mich immer an einen Whisky. Viel mehr Verdünnung dürfte es nicht mehr sein.

Sowohl Herkunft, als auch einen Blend als auch eine Verdünnung schmeckt man heraus. Das Ergebnis dieses Blends ist ein süffiger, sehr fruchtiger Rum, der für Einsteiger super geeignet ist. Stärker hätte man ihn auf keinen Fall verdünnen dürfen.

West Indies a plus d’un alambic à sa distillerie, c’est le cas de le dire. Cet assemblage a un doux parfum sucré, entre canne à sucre, miel et pâtisseries, soutenu par un boisé jeune et rôti, de la vanille et des nuances médicinales sur le vernis et les esters. Les fruits arrivent ensuite, notamment la mangue, la banane et l’ananas. C’est un profil jeune mais onctueux, accessible et assez novateur pour la distillerie. En bouche, la douceur est de mise entre le caramel, la vanille, les épices douces, les fruits tropicaux murs et les saveurs laiteuses. Quelques notes d’esters et de vernis apportent une touche médicinale qui aiguisent le profil sans le raidir. L’ensemble est fruité, huileux, légèrement acide mais très gourmand, avec un alcool très bien intégré. La finale, de longueur modérée, est marquée par l’onctuosité des saveurs fruitées, mielleuses, épicées et médicinales. La petite touche d’agrumes et d’esters à la fin est agréable. Un beau produit avec un bon rapport qualité prix, qui montre que le Old Gregg a encore quelques beaux jours devant lui.

Pas la peine de vous refaire l'histoire, les amis d'Excellence Rhum nous la serve si bien : "Old Gregg Fusion illustre l’art de l’assemblage en réunissant un rhum de jus de canne, issu du moulin à sucre Harper, et un rhum de mélasse provenant de Port Vale, dernière sucrerie en activité sur l’île. Les deux distillats sont passés par l'alambic pot still Old Gregg, datant du début du XXe siècle, avant un vieillissement et un assemblage réalisés à la Barbade". Là clairement, le cerveau commence à parler jamaïcain hein. Ananas, esters, une certaine acidité. Ca envoie pas mal malgré les 46%. Je compte bien m'en prendre une bouteille aussi. Papa noël si tu m'écoutes, stp fais pas le radin cette fois.

In der Nase kommt er mir sehr eindimensional und süß vor. Im Geschmack ist er zum Glück etwas komplexer mit Frucht, Gewürzen und Holz. Kräftige Ananas-Note im Abgang, aber die Süße kommt wieder stark durch.

I love the story behind the stills. The nose feels a lot like your classic Jamaican, while on the palate it feels somewhere between a Jamaican and a Mhoba. Nice but could have a more distinctive profile.
