Velier Hampden Cristina de Middel HGML 2018
Made for people already deep into Hampden's ester world, this 7-year HGML at 60% opens with a lovely juicy-fruit and marzipan nose, glue and grilled-nut esters in the background. Several tasters loved the nose but felt the palate didn't keep up — acidic fruit, a woody, tannic grip and a drying, slightly salty, astringent finish. A good pot-still Jamaican that divides on the follow-through.

#5713 27.09.2025 Day one of the Whisky Live 2025, which this year looks better organized/arranged inside. A pretty nice HGML but I did expect more. Fruity with esters and light spicy tingle on the palate. The wood is well integrate and there is a light marzipan note in there as well. In the background there is some glue and solvents.

A rollercoaster. Three tastings, three different feelings, but overall this is pretty weak compared to (High) expectations, at least in my opinion. The nose is interesting, tied to esters, so varnish, glue and agrumes, plus some tropical fruits. The point is, the palate does not keep up and adds a whole new layer that doesent fit in very well in my opinion. In fact, it is a tad salty and astringent, and this spoils the overall good profile

Verkostet gegen ein HGML Laborsample direkt von Hampden, ebenfalls aus 2018, aber mit 62%. Für meinen persönlichen Geschmack sehr gelungen und komplex und hier ziemlich unterbewertet. Das Laborsample (ebenfalls HGML 2018, allerdings mit 62%) ist allerdings nochmal komplexer, ausbalancierter und einfach überragend gut und bekommt von mir eine 9.0.

Elle se compose de quatre rhums Hampden, âgés de 4 à 9 ans, tous embouteillés à 60 % : DOK 2021 HGML 2018 <>H 2017 LROK 2016 S’il fallait en retenir un, ce serait le <>H 2017, doté d’une belle douceur naturelle, bien équilibré et fruité, même s’il manque un peu de longueur en bouche. Sur le plan gustatif, cette série n’a rien de révolutionnaire, mais elle se distingue par ses magnifiques étiquettes signées Cristina de Middel, qui subliment la distillerie Hampden à travers son regard artistique.

Superbe nez façon new yarmouth, des fruits encore bien juteux, un peu de massepain, des esters, de la noix grillee avec de la fumée. La bouche est décevante, apres ce tres joli nez. Des fruits acidulés, presque limites. Le bois prend beaucoup de place pour un hampden. Une sensation tanique pour une fin de bouche tres seche. Finale moyenne. Vu le tarif, un mauvais rapport qualité prix.
