Neisson Straight from the Barrel (No. 278) 2021
Toasted oak, sugarcane and black pepper up front, with vanilla, ripe fruit and dried apricot rounding it out. This is a young cane-juice agricole from Neisson, four years in a Cognac cask at full proof — one taster caught "dark berries" from that barrel. It's powerful and a touch herbal, needs air and a drop of water. Grassy agricole finish that not everyone loves.
The community says- Long peppery finish
- Vanilla and dried fruit
- Fiery, young

How does Neisson Straight from the Barrel (No. 278) 2021 taste?
Aggregated from 30 community reviews.
Powerful young agricole, peppery and grassy Well-liked for its gourmand nose and long, peppery cane finish. A few find it too fiery and young, and the Cognac cask stays subtle. The grassy agricole edge divides people.

#5734 27.09.2025 Day one of the Whisky Live 2025, which this year looks better organized/arranged inside. I just love these Straight from the Cask releases. They're usually pretty different. This one is really good and the price tag is kind of OK. Lots of sugarcane and fruity notes with a light tingle to the palate.

Home tasting 2026-03-14 Pleasant rum, still the grassy aftertaste of Agricole is not my cup of tea.

Time to review some rums from Neisson. This one is aged 4 years in Cognac casks. On the nose: At first it was woody, with some fruity notes in the back. After sitting in the glass it has roasted woody note with grassy agricole notes in the background. Somewhere in between it had nice fruity and vanilla notes. Taste: Oily, sugarcane notes and toasted woody notes. Then you get of spices like black pepper in there. The abv is integrated very nicely. It had some fruity notes at first but once opened up the agricole notes took over the palate. Finish: Warm, oily, slightly herbal and grassy first and then you get charred woody notes and spices. Its a another great rum from Neisson. Just the cognac cask influence was quite weak on the palate in general, especially as the rum opened.

Whisky Live Paris tasting: Typical Neisson cane, but rounded out with vanilla, ripe fruit and a tangy, fruity sweetness that counterbalances a good dose of spice and tannin.

Nicht ganz rund, grasige, würzige, vanillige Noten.

Whisky Live Paris 2025 - to be tasted again to confirm score and notes This was a surprise to me..the cognac cask added a good layer of complexity with dark berries that pairs well with Neisson nuttyness.

Nose: herbals, thyme, fennel, dry chamomile tea, flowers & mint ! Hint of barrel, black pepper, vanilla, shugarcane. Also dry apricots & raisins. Palate: powerful ! Oily, dominate of the herbals, grass, flowers, some olive, ginger. Very interesting note of chestnut & fennel. Very spicy, need time & water. Aftertaste: long, fresh, oily. Some mint, fennel, herbals, chamomile. Really interesting. Conclusion: so, it's still young, but tasty rum. Not best ballance, but great aroma & taste. Try it, about few weeks.
