Several tasters call this the most mature Hampden they've had — the oldest fully tropical-aged one, and it shows. The nose is the good stuff: overripe banana, pineapple, glue, marzipan, sweet vanilla and old varnished wood. Then a recurring gripe: at 50% the palate turns thin and watery for many, with a finish shorter than the age promises. Complex and balanced, just not the ester bomb some expect.

A rum tasted at Whisky Live Paris in 2025 and 2026. A nose of controlled esters, glue, and wood varnish. Overripe fruits, supporting wood, and a fullness that can only be achieved with many years of aging in a tropical climate. The palate is lively, ample with overripe tropical fruits, esters, and old varnished wood. Also some vanilla sweetness. The finish is rather long with more pronounced wood. A surprising release, the overall design reminds me of Hampden’s more mainstream series for a rum whose age gives it an astonishing depth and a delightful resemblance to a much older Jamaican rum.

Hampden the fifteen 15 years old Flagship of the distillery of the same name, this bottle justifies its crazy price with its age statement in tropical aging on site. This LROK mark shows a moderate alcohol level, probably reduced to give 50° alcohol. On the nose, very mild esters considering its mark is low on the scale for a distillery famous for its aromatic power. The wood influence is well present, with this quite typical wood glue note, ripe but not rotten tropical fruits, and some cooking spices. And that's it... On the palate, well, it's not great... light esters like on the nose, very diluted in aromas, quite (too) watery. The smoky note dominates everything with this roasted and smoked meat taste. Not my thing. There are some very light spices in the background, again those exotic fruits, but nothing that lingers long in the mouth. And that's it... The Jamaican funky is in the nursing home, like an old frail rasta. The finish is average, with this meaty smoky note that's not very pleasant. Nothing that deserves this crazy price. There are nicer Hampdens for less money. Might as well stick to the 8 years or the HLCF which have more complexity, paradoxically. Or the 1753 for more esters. My harsh rating is inversely proportional to the height of the bottle's price.

Tasted twice from a sample, which allowed it to breathe. Overall, I found it very good, with complexity, a very nice balance, and alcohol very well integrated. A bit of a shame about the price, because I might have gone for this bottle.

#5814 28.09.2025 Day two of the Whisky Live 2025, which this year looks better organized/arranged inside. This is a pretty well balanced rum with lots of natural sweetness. Fruity with nice spices andlight glue notes, marzipan and chocolate.

Tasted this extraordinary Jamaican rum from the Hampden Estate in the VIP area during the Rhum Fest Paris 2026. The nose is complex, fruity, overripe, oily, sweet, woody, spicy and nutty with scents of tropical fruits, pineapple, banana, mango, citrus, orange, molasses, brown sugar, caramel, oak, vanilla, nutmeg, cinnamon, clove, cocoa, coffee and tobacco. At the palate it’s full bodied, complex, balanced, intense, warm, fruity, overripe, sweet, spicy, woody, funky and oily with flavors of tropical fruits, citrus, molasses, toffee, caramel, vanilla, oak, cocoa and esters. The finish is long, spicy, warm and lingering.

Very interesting and complex Hampden blend. Higher ester level than expected, while still very accessible and balanced. A good amount of wood on the palate with fruits and spices. Yet the blend components seem to fight each other at times rather than creating a continuous profile.

Had high expectations that unfortunately were not met. Really great, elegant, and promising nose, but on the palate, it’s unfortunately a bit too flat. The Hampden is sadly overwhelmed by an intense herbal note and a lot of wood, plus a slight acidity, and it’s nowhere near as fruity and funky as you’d expect from Hampden. It’s rather on the light side and also feels somewhat watered down and quite thin. Given such a high price and hype, I really expected more, but for that money, I’d rather get a case of Hampden overproof...

Ripe, dense nose with a focus on wood and spices, plus vanilla, coffee, resin, and burnt sugar. On the palate, dried fruits, pineapple, banana, and menthol notes. Solid daily dram – the price remains baffling.

A truly wonderful rum that would definitely play in the top league if it didn’t taste a bit watered down on the palate. Super complex from nose to finish with a perfect balance of tropical fruits, esters, wood, spices, and cookie dough, but a bit diluted on the palate and with a shorter finish than expected.

Hampden... I wouldn't have guessed it blind here... my expectations were admittedly different. On the nose, you can detect a slight Hampden essence, but on the palate, I mainly notice a bitter sour fruit like kumquat/bitter orange with woody aromas. Gradually, more spice and tea notes cautiously join in... this continues into the finish. This bottling leaves me somewhat torn.

Wonderful nose, lots of tropical fruits, esters, and light barrel aromas... wonderfully ripe and spicy. Great. On the palate, unfortunately a bit disappointing... Still clearly tasty and fruity with plenty of funky esters and some wood and spice... but already a bit watery, it drops off noticeably for me here. In a Mai Tai, tasty, a solid 3/5. Cheers

Tasted at Village'26 at Kirsch's booth. The biggest downside here is probably the price. But if you ignore that, this bottling really impresses. It has all the typical Hampden characteristics. If it cost a bit less than half, I would have stocked up.

Hampden! What can I write that hasn't already been said? Of course, this one also has lots of (overripe) tropical fruits, obviously banana and pineapple, but you can also detect esters and glue.

Un Hampden vieilli 15 ans sous le climat des tropiques, ce qui est assez rare pour le souligner. Ce vieillissement se ressent déjà au nez, avec une étonnante profondeur qui sort des Hampden uniquement axés sur les fruits et les esters. Si évidemment ces derniers sont de la partie (colle, vernis à ongles, banane, mangue et ananas notamment), c’est l’équilibre apporté par les épices douces (vanille) et le boisé fin légèrement pâtissier, accompagné d’une nuance florale, qui apporte une réelle plus-value olfactif. Un nez étonnant plein de promesses. Puis en bouche encore une fois le vieillissement fait bien son effet. On retrouve pléthore de fruits exotiques mûrs (notamment orange et citron vert en plus de ceux cités au nez), des fruits confits, un chêne élégant, des épices légères et une douceur sucrée qui créent un profil intense et équilibré, funky et fin. Si on pourrait apprécier quelques degrés en plus, l’alcool est bien maitrisé et suffisant pour déclencher ce petit coup de pep’s en bouche. La finale est longue, chaleureuse et pimentée par les épices (cannelle) qui viennent de concert avec les esters et les fruits exotiques bien mûrs. On ressent un aspect huileux qui comble le palais de son parfumé esterisé. Un Hampden qui, je dois l’admettre, dépasse les attentes en termes de qualité et de complexité. Malgré tout, le prix de vente est extrêmement élevé pour une cuvée de la sorte.

Un nez intense, porté par des esters, où se mêlent colle, bois verni et fruits tropicaux bien mûrs. La bouche est riche et complexe, avec de belles notes de fruits confits, de vanille et un boisé parfaitement intégré. La finale, longue et profonde, confirme la maturité de l’ensemble. Un très beau Hampden, malheureusement proposé à un tarif très élevé.

Finalmente un Hampden diverso da tutte le altre bottiglie! L’invecchiamento prolungato lo associa per me al timbro dei savanna derivati da melassa! Diventano meno marcate le note di esteri e vernici e si aggiungono spezie e note floreali! Peccato anche qui per il costo di release della bottiglia!

Honestly, I'm a bit disappointed with this blend. While the five-year-old really got me hooked, whether it's the price, the funkiness, or the fruitiness, this bottling just doesn't do it for me right now. Which is all the more bitter considering the price.

Whisky Live Paris 2025 - to be tasted again to confirm the score and notes. Wrong degustation order unfortunately, drinking after 2021 C<>H disrupted the palate. The nose is amazing, spices and especially pimento, banana and ananas are all over there. The mouth is consistente but yet a bit thin for diluiton (maybe due to the previous tasting) Price is crazy by the way.

Superbe Hampden très équilibré et au degré idéal pour moi. Le nez est relativement discret. On sait où on est mais on a clairement pas à faire à un DOK. En bouche, on découvre tout l'intérêt de ce rhum superbement équilibré : fruité, esterisé, boisé, épicé, tout y est et tout se mêle parfaitement. Le prix est difficile à comprendre mais c'est un superbe rhum.

Tolle, reife Nase mit reifen Bananen, Ananas, schwerer Süße, Marzipan, Gewürzen und Holz. Am Gaumen kommen Zitrusfrüchte und Vanille dazu. Allerdings etwas dünn. Mir gefällt er sehr gut und keineswegs holzig. Also wegen mir auch gerne noch nen 20yo 😉 Ein paar Prozente mehr dürfte er aber für mich ruhig haben – vor allem bei dem Preis.

An sich kein schlechter Rum, er ist schön fruchtig, lecker und harmonisch. Keine "dreckigen" Ester, sondern eher überreife Früchte. Leider sind die 50% einfach zu wenig und machen ihn schwach im Geschmack. Wäre er doch bloß etwas stärker abgefüllt worden...

Tasted at SITS ‘25. Fantastically rich and dense nose which clearly reflects the age of this product. Less fruits, more wood and spices balanced with burnt sugar and whipped cream. Heavy notes of cask vanilline, resin, cinnamon, cloves and heavily roasted coffee beans, followed with hints of incense sticks and eucalyptus leaves. Unfolds beautifully in the mouth with dried fruits as well as the usual sour pineapple juice and banana. Still quite woody with plenty vanilla and resin. Hints of burnt plastic and nicely mentholated. It’s a lovely pour, but personally I find it a tad too light. Medium finish with unripe banana, cubed pineapple woods and burnt sugar desserts. A lovely surprise that appeared from under the counter and vanished again as quickly as it had appeared. In my humble view a great daily sipper that quality wise trumps the 2010 LROK and moves in the same league as the overproof batch 1. Unfortunately (and inexplicably) this release’s UVP will be respectivally 3x and 5x more expensive. This really leaves me scratching my head. The only reasonably explanation for the pricing must be that it will be hand delivered by Luca himself…

Was für eine tolle Nase! Fruchtig, würzig, holzig, mit Noten von Banane, Ananas, Marzipan, Honig, dazu Tee und etwas Kräuter. Es kündigt sich ein toller Rum an… Und dann die Enttäuschung am Gaumen, dünn und verwässert, Holz zu dominant, Abgang zu kurz. So schade…

Wundervolle, komplexe Nase mit Frucht, Holz und Würze. Am Gaumen tief und komplex, die Balance zwischen Estern und Fasseinfluss ist wirklich hervorragend gelungen. Im (langen) Abgang treten die Ester dann in den Hintergrund und das Fass übernimmt die Führung, aber ohne zu viele Tannine/Bitterkeit. Das ist für meinen Geschmack wirklich ein sehr gelungener Hampden mit einer hervorragenden Balance für sein hohes Alter. Leider für mich nicht ganz auf der Höhe von dem einen oder anderen kontinentalen Hampden wie z. B. dem TWJ 1997er Unicorn und leider auch (zu) teuer für das, was er ist.

Tout simplement le plus vieux Hampden 100% vieillissement tropical. Alors, est-ce qu'on est encore sur une grosse confiture de fruits aux esters ou pas ? Et bien, pas du tout ! Certes, quelques notes typiques sont là, mais c'est surtout un côté herbacé, des notes céréalières qui me rappellent certains Rye, quelques feuilles de thé et d'intrigantes notes de pamplemousse qui ont piqué ma curiosité. En bouche, c'est plus fruité, plus caramélisé, boisé, et toujours ces notes céréalières et médicinales. Clairement un profil Hampden "nouveau", et qui m'a bien parlé. Il n'est pas sans me rappeler une sortie de chez The Roots dégustée avec les copains lors de notre dernière soirée Ricci dans la Meuse.. ;)

Surprisingly not much wood, I expected more on that side. While more mature and complex than the 8, I don't think it's worth the huge price tag. Still very pleasant and worth a try. Tons of ripe tropical fruit and gentle on the ester.

Big fermented banana cream with some passion fruit, lemon and tangerine. Pours golden. Mouth brings on a lot of banana sweetness. A hint of pepper burn but that's light. Oak is there but the hogo really dominates the aroma here. Taste of big and full and finish is fairly long. Lots to love about this one. Sample shared from bottle split thanks to xamsx.

#1714 16-01-2026 - Rate 7.9 Probably one of my top 5 new rums to taste I 2026. Huge expectations after seeing reviews. But can’t help feeling that it doesn’t deliver as expected. Mainly because of the low ABV. Nose of tropical fruit, ester, glue and wood. Palate follows nose close. 🥃 Hampden 15 ans - 50 % Distilled after a five-day fermentation, this rum boasts an ester content of 200-400 g/hlap, typical of the LROK (Light Rum Owen Kelly) style introduced by Hampden in 1952. Aged for 15 years in bourbon casks in a tropical climate, this is the oldest Hampden ever marketed. And what a result! Perfectly controlled reduction, remarkable elegance and finesse. A highly accomplished Hampden, with superb complexity and impressive length on the palate. The only fly in the ointment is the price (379 Cerise), which is hard to justify - it's excellent, but not at that price. Especially as the label design is reminiscent of the mass-market range, which blurs the message a little.

Mild nose. Little glue. Unobtrusive but deep. A bit woody. Medium-long finish. Even somewhat sweet. Compared to 10-year House of Cane (RX19261) and 2016OWH (RX17319). Those two are very good and have clearly more edges. The atmosphere has to work for those two expressions. The 15-year can create its own mood. If the 15-year didn’t ask for this price, which I understand but can’t pay, it would be my favorite Hampden for all hours.

On the nose esters, polish, glue, really overripe tropical fruits (mainly banana), marzipan, really sweet vanilla, sweet spices. But I had a feeling the full punch of the aroma dissipates quite quickly and loses its edge. The taste is quite sweet with juicy overipe tropical fruits and of course dose of esters and technical notes of glue and polish. I expected a bit more wood for 15 years. Beautiful, full and deep, yet so smooth and fine. The prize however...

Lovely Hampden. Not all time but very good. Nose classic profile, all marzipan, esters and intense grapefruit. More wood on the mouth, sweet esters and more tropical fruit. Finish probably the weakest part of the package, a little short, herbal and oily. Could be better but overall still a belter

08/11/2025: tasted @ Spirits In The Sky 2025. What makes this bottle special is the fact that this is the oldest 100% tropically aged Hampden to date, and I'm happy I was able to taste it. Overall nice Hampden, but I found it rather thin on the palate. Not sure what the release price is.

Tasted in the quiet, away from the WLP, big disappointment. Charming nose, mieilleix, resinous, close to a long pond low ester. Acidic on the palate, with a big watery passage, an astringent finish, not really pleasant and a far cry from the nose which had great promise. Too bad
