#6814 20.05.2026 Training has been done on the bike and now it is time for some samples and included spitting. Watching the new Jack Ryan on Amazon Prime. A nice release, but not among the top ones, unfortunately. A rum with light notes when it comes to the traditional Caroni notes, but it does have some caramel, diesel, smoke and light esters in the profile.

On the nose, workshop, dried fruit, toffee, menthol (like the 2000 High Proof), all somewhat restrained, but very 'flattering'. The 7 years in the Dame Jeanne have done a great job. Conversely, you could also say that the desired rough edges are somewhat lacking. Barrel, toasted, tannins on the palate, but also a little watery. Falls into the 'drinkable' category for me. I would have expected a little more overall.

Eher leichter Caroni, der aber alle typischen Marker wie Teer, Gummi, Leder, Tabak, Holz und etwas getrocknete Früchte mitbringt. In Nase und Gaumen noch etwas Menthol. Wirkt insgesamt aber etwas verdünnt

Great 2000 Caroni with recognizable DNA. On the nose, tar, rubber, dark spice, and some dried fruit, but overall softer and more approachable than many stronger examples. On the palate, round and pleasant to drink with gentle bitterness, wood, and a subtle dirty note. The reduction noticeably takes away some complexity and depth but makes it much more agreeable. Overall a good 2000, lacking a bit of punch but still enjoyable.

Was soll man zu dieser Abfüllung sagen? Ein 2000er tropisch gelagert, klingt erstmal gut. Der Preis erweckt aber leider hohe Erwartungen, die dann doch nicht ganz erfüllt werden können. Dann lieber drei 100 Anniversary da hat man mehr davon. Solide mehr aber auch nicht.

Great nose with lots of depth. The first sip also has great tar notes, classic tropical Caroni. Unfortunately, the finish is nasty, even at 50% it burns slightly and becomes bitter. Too bad.

Amazingly round. Normally the 2000s are much dirtier and less round. This one is bottled a little diluted, but very round overall.

Not a "Monster" Caroni, but a well-crafted, elegant expression that works especially well as an introduction to the style. This feels like a Beginner-friendly Caroni. Round, Balance, Expressive without being Agressive, but still offers the depth and character.

A rather lighter Caroni, the aroma is not extremely pronounced, with tobacco, leather and dried fruit. Quite subtle notes of eucalyptus in the chiti and again leather dominates, tobacco a slight tartiness. The finish is weaker at first, shorter, the closer I get to finishing the glass the more dominant I would say the finish becomes. For me it won't offend, but won't particularly excite heavy caroni lovers.

Unfortunately, as Kim Pedersen said at a personal meeting, most caroni released today are "best of the rest". I generally don't love the 2000 vintage too much, but here the dipping into pint bottles makes sense to me, perhaps only for collectors.

It is somehow weak - dirty Caroni profile is there but with rather low ABV and narrow profile it does not impress me. No complexity. I am afraid it is not the best of Velier Caroni releases...

Finally, legendary Caroni ! Nose: Dirty, but quite delicate. Bitumen, rubber, tar, polish, some chemical ingredients, machine oil, varnish. After, open smoky, burnt wood, sandal, leather, cigars and petrol. On the background we saw baked apples & some hint of menthol. Palate: Little bit sweet start, baking apples, vintage furniture, tar, resin, rubber, dry fruits, eucalyptus, oak barrel, some spices, varnish. Aftertaste: looooong. Varnish, menthol, tar, baking apples, leather, eucalyptus, dried fruits. Conclusion: Wow ! Most experts says, this realize not the best. Maybe. But it's still amazing and absolutely unique rum. Maybe, you need few drops of water to open it.
