#5596 23.08.2025 Celebrating Michael's 50th birthday with some good rums. Nose Fresh, wood, fruits, peach, ligbt banana, faint rubber, light anise, light mint. Palate Oily, balanced, wood, naturally sweet, light mint, light mango, light citrus, light olive, faint salt. Finish Long, wood, light roasted, light olive, light salt, light mint, light peach, light chocolate. I like the peach in the profile.

What a slap in the face! I'm a fan of tdl and this is another great bottle. Some similarities with the COR tdl 2009 Batch 3 like fruitiness, brown sugar, rubber and coca cola. What gives the Roots a superior dimension is its minty, blackcurrant freshness.

Impressive for a bottle that's barely been opened: the rum already displays a beautiful aromatic intensity. The fruit is generous, with clear notes of blackcurrant, supported by the minty touch characteristic of TDLs. A hint of rubber adds further complexity. The rich, oily texture suggests a very promising evolution as the tasting progresses.

Well, after the first reviews, the expectations were a little high, but in my opinion they couldn't quite be maintained. I found it quite alcoholic and pungent at first. It definitely needs time in the glass and then it gets better, although the slight bitterness prevents it from achieving a better note.

Im direkten Vergleich mit dem TWJ 2009 etwas zurückhaltender an der Nase und trotzdem ist der Alkohol etwas präsenter und alles wirkt nicht ganz so ausgewogen wie beim TWJ. Am Gaumen das gleiche Spiel. Alkohol ist nicht perfekt eingebunden und nicht ganz so harmonisch. Die typischen Marker sind vorhanden, aber das Gesamtbild ist beim TWJ einfach stimmiger.

I have to say that the aroma from the glass is very appealing. Fruity, mint and fruit. The taste is pleasantly sweet, really fruity with wood and a hint of chocolate. The alcohol is well integrated and there is even a little acidity on the finish, which is slightly sizzling on the tongue. Very successful.

A certain intensity on the nose. Already smells round and oily. Unexpected grassy notes on the palate for a tdl. Has something metallic about it. A certain mintiness also comes to the fore. A nice finish rounds it off.

Verkostet gegen die TDL 2009er Referenz vom Bottleshop (RX18328). An der Nase recht verhalten, ich finde leicht etwas Gewürze/Falernum. Am Gaumen sind die typischen Marker zu finden, dieser TDL kommt für meinen Geschmack aber etwas gewürzlastiger daher als andere 2009er TDL. Gelbe Früchte und Minze eher im Hintergrund. Ich finde eine leicht metallische Note. Mit etwas Wasser wird er merklich flacher. Im Abgang helle gelbe Früchte und Süße. Keine schlechte Abfüllung, aber der erste 2009er TDL von Roots hat mir besser gefallen, und gegen den FRC Bottleshop hat er keine Chance. Der Bottleshop ist fetter, öliger, saftiger und fruchtiger.

24/01/2026: tasted @ Liquid Leuven 2026. Another TDL of high quality. The usual peach and mint notes that I like are present. Glad to have a bottle of it. Can't go wrong with anything that is selected by The Roots!

Cherry cough syrup and pours a deep orange amber colour. Poured this next to a Ten Cane and has a lot less of the gasoline, burnt tire kind of aromas. But there's a little. A lot more medicine in the mouth, for me has more of an aged agricole vibe, grand arome and what not. Lots of berry and red fruits. Short finish and booze is very well hidden in mouth. It's there in the smell but not much burn in the mouth. Herbal medicine vibe sticks with me for a bit. Bottle split thanks xamsx.
