The Whisky Jury Hampden The Ester Hunter Catch 4 DOK 2009
One reviewer summed it up as a good DOK "mal etwas anders" — meaning a bit different. Expect the classic Hampden ester punch: overripe banana, pineapple, glue and nail polish, briny olive. What splits people is the finish: a smoky, almost peaty note, like it sat in a whisky cask. Some love it in a Mai Tai; smoke-averse drinkers back off.

Great DOK with a difference. Pure in the glass still a bit naja typical with slight hints of smoke for me as a (smoke in rum hater) not really bad in this bottling. In May Tai really a bank there he delivered really strong. Edit: after a loooong standing time there is a decent smoky note ... but somehow not as disturbing here as I have often experienced.

Northern Lights Meeting 07/25: Nose Fruity Mouth Sweetly spicy with a slight smokiness. Interesting but doesn't pick me up either.

#5449 04.07.2025 Time to try out this one 😊 Smells nice even when being poured. Nose Medium intense, ester, faint wood, fruity, overripe, pineapple, light banana. Palate Fresh, warm, medium intense, ester, fruity, overripe, naturally sweet, faint caramel, light herbal. Finish Long and warm, wood, light tannins, fruity, light citrus. Empty glass Herbs, light mint, light sour, faint cherry.

The nose is brilliant with esters, overripe fruit and some wood. Very intense esters on the palate; fruits are present, but these are overlaid by a smoky note. Also some herbs and caramel. Tannins and wood on the finish. The PLV is right for the nose, but the smoky aroma on the palate is a little disturbing to justify a higher rating. Fans of smoky whisky may get their money's worth here

On the nose: Quite mild on the esters and pleasant for a DOK mark. Overripe pineapple and banana. Woody. There are some olive brines in there too. Taste: Warm and fresh mouthfeel upfront. Good level of intensity, the alcohol is integrated well. Esters, overripe pineapples. Sweetness from the fruits. Some loght herbal, minty notes. Hints of smoky notes. Whisky barrel notes. Finish: Woody, warm mouthfell. Some tannings and malt notes. Very easy, pleasant sipper that kind of misses some kind of exitement and perhaps complexity in order to score higher points, but its not a boring rum to sip at all

Great fruity, balanced Hampden profile at the start! Unfortunately, a smoky note in the finish, as if the rum had been in a whisky barrel. I'm not really into that...
