Chapter 7 Cuban Rum (Figee, Switzerland) 1948
"Flüssige Geschichte" is how one member put it — a Cuban distilled in 1948 and left in the cask for 76 years. Expect dark chocolate, dried fruit, coffee, tobacco and old leather, all wrapped in a heavy, oily texture. Several tasters flag a strong port-wine and rancio character, more like an old Madeira than a typical Cuban. Long, dry, slightly tannic finish.

How does Chapter 7 Cuban Rum (Figee, Switzerland) 1948 taste?
Aggregated from 20 community reviews.
Oily, port-heavy old Cuban, a history piece Almost universally admired as a piece of rum history — complex, oily, elegant. A few find the port finish too dominant and one caught an odd sourness; the price stings for most.

A highly aromatic nose for this rum praised by Serge Valentin. Sweetness (candy sugar) but incredible complexity: old varnished wood, umami and rancio as in a very old Madeira, but also a hint of tawny Port. There's also a hint of vegetation, olives and fresh tobacco. In short, an incredible complexity with rare, complex and balanced flavors. The nose's impression of old Madeira, tawny Port and very old overripe wine is absolutely confirmed on the palate. Rum? 48.9%? We're definitely somewhere else here. Then other aromas emerge, sweet wood (licorice), dried fruit, nuts, lots of bitterness and always that hint of fresh tobacco. The finish is long, with lots of umami, rancio, olive oil, cedar wood and always an incredible freshness despite the very oily side of this rum. Thanks to Sveninho for the sample.

Liquid history - stored in barrels for over 3/4 of a century. 🤯 Heavy on the nose, dark fruit and a surprising amount of port wine influence. This is joined by a crazy, sour olive brine. Fascinating nose! Creamy, oily and lots of port wine flavors on the palate, which are quite strongly suppressed by the long barrel ageing. Very long and pleasant finish. A real experience and a recommendation for all those who value history and like more intense port wine influences! Many thanks @Sven for the sample! ❤️

Explosively old rum with astonishing elegance despite 76 years of barrel ageing. The nose reveals deep, earthy tones, dark leather and spices, followed by dried citrus fruits and a hint of vanilla. On the palate, it impresses with a dense texture, subtle tobacco and some leather. The finish is surprisingly long and spicy with fine coffee notes. An exceptional experience for lovers of extremely old rums.

Probably the oldest rum ever bottled and therefore an exceptional drinking experience. On the nose, a bouquet of dark chocolate, tobacco, dried tropical fruit and old leather. A remarkable balance between sweetness and spice on the palate. Intense notes of dried fruit, cocoa beans and tobacco leaves are accompanied by nuances of honey, molasses and roasted nuts. Exceptionally long and complex on the finish, with lingering notes of dark chocolate, oak, spices and a hint of coffee.

A fantastic rum. And history. Unbelievable, but it was distilled decades before I was even born. Subtle sweetness, smooth and very well balanced. Astonishing, that the cask after 76 years of maturation is still just in the background providing the stage for flavors of dried fruits, coffee and dark chocolate, tobacco and caramel. But expensive man!

Amazing part of history in the glass... it remembers even Fidel's time... absolutely complex rum, brown sugar, dark chocolate, oak wood, dried tropical fruits, tobacco, caffee, leather, honey, vanilla and I could continue... well balanced. It is smooth and rich given its 64 years in barrels. I believe it is worth its ambition price tag...
