Don't expect wild Jamaican funk here — at nearly 29 years old this Long Pond has calmed down. The glue and solvent still show on the nose alongside banana and pineapple, but the palate leans on oak, menthol, spice and a touch of butterscotch, with the 58.7% alcohol sitting well-integrated. Several tasters call it rounded and archival rather than a raw ester bomb.

8,8:On the nose, esters, glue and solvents, tropical fruits like banana, pineapple, red and yellow fruits, citrus with orange, roasted wood, spicy with allspice, bump into our nosetrils. On aeration, the molasses is fresh with tea, herbaceous, industrial notes like rubber and petrol are out, some oak, nuts and dark chocolate. 8,6:On the palate, the attack is fruity with tropical fruits like banana, citrus fruits, menthol and roasted wood notes like butterscotch, confectionery with pastry, biscuits, spicy with allspice, as the molasses is grassy, herbaceous.When the rum is well oxidized, berries and some rubber arise. 8,5:The finish is long, dry, slightly medicinal, as roasted wood notes, oaky, spicy, are paired with tropical, citrus fruits and fresh, grassy molasses...

Adventní kalendář plantation/planteray Zdeňka Polácha 2025 Máme tu další adventní víkend a začínáme jedním ze tří skvostů Prestige Cellar pro Českou republiku: Jamaica 1996 HJC. Jedná se o rum destilovaný na double retort kotlíku v palírně Long Pond na Jamajce, kde dále zrál 21 let v sudech po bourbonu. Následně byl převezen do Francie a stočen do sudů po koňaku, kde odpočíval dalších 7 let, než jsme ho měli možnost ochutnat a nadchli se pro něj. Poté byl v témže sudu v Prestige sklepě uložen ještě jeden další rok, než se dostal do lahví a našich skleniček. V chuti nejde o divokou Jamajku, kterou byste poznali na první dobrou; přeci jenom jde o téměř devětadvacetiletý rum, krásný archivní kousek s perfektně integrovaným alkoholem a plnou vyzrálou chutí, ve které můžete cítit koření, dřevo, kůži spíše než esterovou divočinu. Lahvován byl v síle 58,7% a dobrá zpráva je, že příští týden se pár tripletů "rozbije", takže si příznivci konkrétních lahví budou moci koupit pouze tyto a nikoliv celou sadu všech tří lahví. #plantadvent2025
