Rumclub Private Selection Ed. 54 2020
Sip this one neat and give it air — that's how tasters got the most out of it. Cane juice from Ghana, but not the ester-monster you'd expect: apple, citrus and honey up front, then a wave of chai-like spice (cinnamon, cardamom, clove) and a dry, slightly smoky, spicy finish. A few found it a touch acidic or "flach," but nearly everyone agreed the 64.3% is buried beautifully.

How does Rumclub Private Selection Ed. 54 2020 taste?
Aggregated from 45 community reviews.
Spicy, fruity Ghana cane rum, heat well hidden Well-liked for how invisibly the high ABV sits and its chai-spice-meets-tropical-fruit twist. The catch: a short, acidic finish and a body some call thin for the strength.

Subtly fruity on the nose (light fruit), becoming sweeter and more palatable on the palate. One should not be misled by the initial unimpressiveness. Smoky and woody on the finish. Not the crusher like the Nanny or the Cudjoe, rather sweeter and more pleasing and not recognizable as Ghanaian from the outside. What really stands out is the incredibly good integration of the alcohol. I didn't want to give the rum 80 points at first, but fortunately I was patient enough and it is becoming more and more appealing.

Fruity nose with sugar cane and spices. On the palate, instead of citrus fruits and green apple, tropical fruits and various Christmas spices such as cinnamon, cardamom and vanilla. The subtle roasted aroma turns into a ravenous aroma in the finish. The alcohol is perfectly integrated; the 64.3% is not noticeable

Sweet, fragrant start with vanilla, honey and citrus fruits. On the palate you immediately recognize the sweetness with a little punch, which then transforms into fruit and spice with a pleasant play of acidity. The finish is very pleasant, you don't notice the 64% at all. I'm looking forward to more older bottlings from Ghana. Many thanks for the sample

Exciting rhum from Ghana! However, I find the younger, less aged ones almost more exciting...

First nose very spicy. Reminds me directly of a chai. Briefly went into the kitchen and smelled the chai. Yes. There are similarities. Cinnamon, cardamom, clove. After a while, some lime zest and sugar cane aromas join in. With more time and air, I also got something like pencil shavings and possibly tonka bean? I had the latter in a bottling from Amburana Wood a while ago. It warms the mouth immediately and salivation sets in straight away. The fireworks of spices continue and I'm reminded of chai again. The alcohol is really well integrated. Doesn't taste like well over 60% ABV. Blindly I would have guessed early to mid 50%. The "relationship" to a (briefly) matured Agricole is recognizable, but it's a different world. The finish is long, spicy, dry and a little peppery. In addition to the previous notes, there is now a hint of aniseed or something similar.

Review by Boletus
Review by Schnubbii
Review by DosenZorn
Rauchiger Abgang.

And on to the #54, Canejuice from Ghana. Totally new to me. On the nose: Citrus notes dominantly. Green apples. Floral notes. Canejuice notes are in the background. Dryish. High abv is integrated very well. Taste: Much more spices and agricole notes on the taste. Oak. I get acidic notes that break the palate for me. These some vanilla notes in there and hints of cinnamon. Quite light bodied for a high abv rum Dry and spicy finish. Quality is there, but these flavours dont really work for my palate. But still, quite interesting experience.
