Valinch & Mallet Hampden Trelawny - Jamaica <>H 2014
Overripe banana, pineapple and a shot of glue meet roasted oak and a dry, slightly astringent finish. This is Hampden <>H through and through — one taster called the palate a fruit basket "with glue sauce." A few find the cask makes it a touch dry and thin at full proof; most love the fruit and how well the 55.7% sits. Let it breathe 15 minutes.

How does Valinch & Mallet Hampden Trelawny - Jamaica <>H 2014 taste?
Aggregated from 28 community reviews.
Fruity, ester-driven Hampden with dry oak finish Well-liked classic Hampden: fruity, ester-heavy, well-integrated alcohol. A couple of tasters find it drier and leaner than the fruitier <>H bottlings, but the funk and balance win people over.

22.03.2025 Retasting at Whisky Watcher tasting. ---------------------- #5104 08.02.2025 relaxing with a few samples at home. Nose Fruity, light wood, ester, overripe, light floral, glue, faint caramel, faint cherry. Palate Round, balanced, oily, fresh, light wood, faint roasted, ester, fruity, overripe, light floral, naturally sweet, faint caramel. Finish Long, oily, light wood, fruit, light citrus, ester, warm. Rest it for at least 15 minutes so it can really open up and release all its flavours.

Sehr geiler vielschichtiger Hampden.

Guter Stoff

8,4:On the nose, esters and glue, nail polish, fermented overripe tropical fruits like banana and pineapple, citrus fruits, some briny olive and roasted wood notes like caramel, bump into our nosetrils. On aeration, the molasses is herbaceous and flowery, red fruits and apricots join the play, the wood is spicy, nutty, brings confectionery. 8,7:On the palate, the attack is fruity, a bit astringent with overripe tropical fruits like banana, pineapple and citrus, red fruits, some raisins, apples, medicinal with strong esters, oily and round, as the wood is roasted, slightly smoky and spicy with a hint of white chocolate, crunchy bread, caramelized biscuits, vanilla, pairing briny olive, flowery molasses. 8,2:The finish is long, dry, with strong oak, so quite furry, still medicinal with esters, as the molasses is grassy, fruits green with apple and tropical with guava, the wood roasted, smoky and spicy..

Sehr guter hampden! Auf hohem Niveau wirkt er etwas dünn und etwas unrund.

Great Hampen. Lots of fruit, slightly astringent, vanilla, bananas...really great and I have to admit that I wasn't sure at first whether it would go my way. Should definitely be drunk standalone or with other fruit bombs, otherwise it can easily go under. Still fun even after 30 minutes in the glass. Great!!!

Side-by-side of ten recent-ish 2014 <>H bottlings: On the nose the bottlings are pretty much on a comparable level. RumClub and Family Ricci take the crown today, showing a bit more fruitiness relatively speaking. Overall the bottlings with some reduction provide noticably less intensity. I prefer the higher/full proof bottlings here. Again, on the palate the factor to set the different bottlings apart comes down to fruitiness and alcohol integration. Among the lower ABV bottlings the V&M Star(h)um takes the crown with TWJ coming in second. The difference in ABV is even more pronounced on the palate with the full proof version clearly ahead. Overall winner here is the RumClub, followed by Family RIcci again. Most balanced with lots of funk yet also a good amount of cask impact and good alcohol integration. All in all non of the bottlings is bad in any way. There are only minute differences in the bottlings and the winner might change on another day. I‘m very curious to see how the vintage will develop over time - assuming we‘ll see some more bottlings in the coming years.
