Romdeluxe Diamond Wild Series Rum Guyana SWR 2019

Cask-strength thrill-seekers are the crowd here: at nearly 78% and just 4 years old, this SWR from Diamond leans hard on virgin-oak vanilla, roasted hazelnut and toffee, with dried fruit underneath. Most are amazed the alcohol sits as well as it does after so little time, though a few find it heavy and one-note on vanilla. Not a quiet sipper.

Huge-proof young Guyana, vanilla and roasted nuts A real love-it-or-hate-it bottle. Many are floored by how well the huge ABV integrates for 4 years; others find it too alcohol-forward, thin after the peak, and stuck on one vanilla note.

Trade fair evaluation - Hanse Spirit Edit: Tasted the TRC SWR 2001 directly in cross-comparison with partly completely different vintages and in the end also different profiles. Including the S.B.S (54.1%) ebfalls from 2001, the El Dorado Rare Cask Skeldon from 2000, the RomDeluxe from 2019 and the KaribikAlps Soulfire from 2018. Nose: TRC: Hard to believe that this is supposed to be a SWR, blind I would probably classify it more as a REV. Lots of roasted aromas, licorice, leather and tobacco, but also dried fruit, spices and a pleasant sweetness. Definitely stands out from the SWRs I know and I really, really like it! ED Skeldon: Simply incredibly round and inviting. Lots of chocolate, spices, sweetness, some coffee, but also coconut and wood. S.B.S: Has by far the most concise coffee note. However, it is somewhat more restrained on the nose compared to the competition. Needs quite a while to develop. Soulfire: Surprisingly mature for its young age. Molasses, licorice, raisins, chocolate, caramel, plum - there's a bit of everything here. I also like it very much. RDL: This is the second time I've had this in my glass after the HanseSpirit. Of course, the almost 80% ABV on the nose cannot be denied. In addition, in contrast to the Soulfire (same age, different vintage), it seems significantly less complex. For me, the weakest nose. Slightly reminiscent of Belize. Palate: TRC: Seems like a hybrid of SWR and REV on the palate, there is also a hint of pencil shavings. It lacks a little intensity, but for me it's still a successful bottling! ED Skeldon: For me, this is in a different league. Everything is very balanced, alcohol perfectly integrated. A super rum! S.B.S.: Also on the palate the concise coffee note, chocolate, wood and also a hint of perfume. Just beats the TRC. Soulfire: Not entirely convincing on the palate. Molasses, licorice, caramel, dried fruit, but also something disturbing (for me). RDL: The alcohol is also perceptible on the palate, with caramel, subtle coffee, vanilla and baking spices. My ranking: ED Skeldon: 9.2

A Guyana SWR with 77.8% is already a clear announcement. Surprisingly, the alcohol is barely perceptible on the nose. Rather gentle aromas of nuts, vanilla and toffee spread out. On the palate it is initially oily with a hint of crème brulee, but quickly changes to woody, nutty with some tannins. Now the alcohol becomes noticeable and astringency spreads. The finish remains at this level. I can't really do anything with it. I find it too tiring to enjoy on its own and clearly too expensive as a mixer.

To answer Rum Watcher: So I love it! 😊 Invitingly fruity and nutty on the nose, alcohol vapors almost imperceptible, very good. Warm and oily on the palate and still very nice and fruity. And yes, the alcohol is there - but it doesn't interfere, it brings the fruity, nutty impression to the last corner of the mouth. As expected, the finish is long. My rating: lip-smacking! Thank you, Fuwi, for the sample!

#5249 16.04.2025 Tasting with Fabian in Blåvand. Nose Fresh, balanced, light nutts, dried fruit, vanilla, light plum, light anise. Palate Oily, light wood, faint smoke, dried fruit, light plum, faint varnish, light caramel, faint coconut, light chocolate. Finish Long and warm, light wood, naturally sweet, light caramel, light chocolate, light cherry, spice. This is a very good release and eht ABV is close to perfectly integrated so you barely feel it.

8,3:On the nose, nutty, oaky wood, slightly smoky, roasted nuts, plum and dried fruits, quite alcoholic, bump into our nosetrils. On aeration, it settles down, becomes balanced, very pleasant, fresh.Yellow fruits are out, anise and cream toffee. 8,2:On the palate, the attack is alcoholic, intense, concentrated, dirty, slightly funky, with toasted coconut, yellow and dried fruits with dried apricots, the barrel impact is strong, the wood roasted with crème brûlée, nuts, spicy with vanilla, 8,2:The finish is long, dry, slightly astringent, as the notes from palate linger on...

A Guyana with over 77% abv! The nose is very demanding and inaccessible after about 1.5 hours. The strength of the rum is definitely on the palate! Flowery sweet with vanilla and caramelized, almost burnt sugar candies, pencil leads and old wooden desks from German elementary schools are brought back to my memories by the aromas. The pencil case is full of glue sticks. In the finish, the high abv. comes through again and makes it somewhat metallic. Very interesting, the alcohol (on the palate) is excellently integrated.

This is quite challenging. The alcohol is very present and the woodpice clearly bursts out of the wood. It can certainly be a bit overwhelming. It has a very special spice in the finish, which lingers forever. We couldn't quite agree on that. Not for sweet drinkers and friends of rather light, floral, fruity rums. I'm pretty sure this will be a devider....love it or hate it, nothing in between. Cheers

It's nice to have such a young SWR from Guyana in my glass, but unfortunately it's far too alcoholic for me personally. In my opinion, the bottlings from Romdeluxe are now all very young, alcoholic and are being thrown onto the market too quickly. What a shame, really

Phew, so personally I was overwhelmed by the poor alcoholic integration. I didn't find the SWR balanced, the fruit couldn't get past the alcohol, so I actually miss everything that makes a Skeldon for me.
