While it delivers the intensity and punch you would expect from a navy blend, I cannot help but call this elegant. The nose is incredibly complex and ever evolving while in the glas. This basically delivers all I‘d like to see in a run. Dark notes, wood, fresh and dried fruits and a lingering smokiness all painting a surprisingly well balanced picture both on the nose and palate. Oily and rich texture rounds out the experience. Excellent stuff.

Retasting and I still like it a lot. ------- This is also a very expensive bottle and I'd say the price can be debated, but you can't argue the quality of this rum. The nose just hits you right in the face. Fruit and smoky oak hit you first and then come the molasses and caramel with a whiff of leather. The palate is complex yet wonderfully balanced. Roasted wood and oak hit the palate right away, closely followed by molasses, vanilla, and light chocolate. There is an ever so light bitterness to the palate. The finish is long and surprisingly smooth with oak, vanilla, and dried fruit.

Well, it's good. But it's definitely not worth the $800 it original sold for, or the probably $1500+ it goes for now. Very glad I tried it though! I definitely can pick out some of the individual runs that went in to it. 2 specifically have a very distinct flavor/aroma. Neither of which are my favorite to begin with but I do enjoy them. Old jar of molasses is 100% the nose for me. I've only had 1 Caroni, but I get some of that oiley fruitiness on the front of the taste. But it goes back to a Demerera finish big time for me. Long and chewy.

A very dark nose for a rum that's almost black and fat in the glass. Black licorice, molasses, prune compote, wet wood and old leather. A very old wooden house in the Amazon rainforest. The palate rises gently, licorice and other aromas rise and fill the mouth. A liquid story with a breathtaking evolution on the palate, it's a little different every time I taste it. A monument! Tasted again and still magnificent! I don't understand how it can be a little different every time I taste it? Oxidation?

Call me a bloody novice or a mangy nihilist, but the rum just isn't the revelation I was expecting. 🤷♂️ I let it breathe for a long time. The alcohol evaporates and the nose makes me dream of Guyana (where I've never been, of course). A promising start! But the palate is disappointing: woody, quite bitter, relatively sharp, not very complex. Is this supposed to be the famous Last Consignment? 🥴 Well, it doesn't taste too bad, but I've drunk rums that were much more to my liking. I definitely prefer the Rum Tot for my 50th birthday, for example. Well, my personal (relatively disappointing) experience. Make your own and prove me wrong! 😊 Update 2024-07-31: Post-tasting Tätärätä! Reconciliation - this rum is really something special. The olfactory verdict from the first tasting remains, but I now have to raise the palate rating significantly. I simply can't find anything that would make me hesitate, nothing out of round, nothing that stands out. Simply a perfect blend, in which the components from the other Royal Navy countries work so perfectly with the Guyana component that they merge into it and raise it another notch. What more could you want! In short: 10 points more! (crazy)

Got a sample of this remarkable rum some months ago from Andy and Angel as a gift. Many thanks for that. I saved it to Black Tot Day and it was well worth waiting for. Black Tot Last Consignment is a piece of liquid history. It was bottled from antique stone flagons containing the last stocks of Royal Navy Rum which laid untouched for over four decades. It’s really an historical blend that never can be recreated. The nose is fruity and nutty with aromas of chocolate, banana, licorice and some sweetness. At the palate it’s fruity, oaky and sweet with flavors of coffee, cacao, leather, tobacco and cassis. The finish is very long, fruity and woody with flavors of leather and tobacco. Overall an excellent and remarkable navy rum that I’m very happy to got the opportunity to taste.

Very nice navy with almost exclusively dark notes, fruit and sweetness are not neglected either. A good portion of smoke is nicely integrated. This rum makes you feel like a pirate. Very nice! Thanks @Cigars for the sample.

Literally drinking liquid history here, Very expensive but wow do I love it. So dark and heavy! Can definitly taste a lot of demerara in there, the nose is wonderful - musty, raisins, licorice and wood. On the palate the alcahol is wonderfully integrated with spices, licorice, molasses, chocolate, caramel, old wood and leather. Just a wonderful rum, it's a privilege to taste it. I first tasted this rum about 2 years ago thanks to a sample from MOM. I am leaving my initial score untouched.

Liquid history in a Glass. Or better in the accompanying Gill (1/2). The nose starts off bursting with spices, wood and is more in the Guyanese side. In Addition there are some subtle notes of tar and metal. On the palate the spices also dominate whilst a subtle sweetness (malt and molasses) is adding texture. There are some dried plums and raisins. The finish is the same and really long, getting a bit earthy in the end. What a nice drop, I will leave it here for the moment and come back in some time for a second review.

Also meine Erwartungen an diesen Rum waren wirklich sehr groß, da die Jahresabfüllung von 2020 zu meinen absoluten Liebelingsrums gehört. Und ich wurde nicht enttäuscht. Dunkel, kräftig, rauchig, holzig, schokoladig, einfach großartig. Der Abgang könnte etwas länger sein. Im direkten Vergleich ist die Jahresabfüllung etwas fruchtiger und gefällt mir persönlich einen tick besser. Nichtsdestotrotz würde ich mir sofort eine Flasche zulegen wenn der immens hohe Preis nicht wäre. Es lohnt sich auf jeden Fall eine Kostprobe :) Update Feb. 2026 Gefällt mir mittlerweile noch besser als damals. Relativ starker Sherryeinfluss. Trotzdem kraftvoll. Sehr lecker.

The rum needs a lot of time to open up. The profile tastes delicious and is something special. Lots of dark notes: Licorice, meaty, molasses, smoked and burnt, chocolate, quite spicy but then also sweet fruit components like johanissbeer and something like physalis. Tastes like old Guyana. However, I find the smoky, burnt side relatively dominant. Accordingly, it also reminds me (too) strongly of a good mezcal flavor profile.

A true piece of history, this rum is a vestige of the Tot that has now disappeared. The nose is incredibly complex and deep, with a harmonious succession of aromas ranging from tobacco, aromatic herbs, dried and exotic fruits, Demerara sugar and caramel to dark chocolate, spices, oak, leather and malt. You could spend hours here. The attack on the palate remains as intense as it is delectable. Time has bonnified the flavors and united them in a juice that is as coherent as it is structured, fine and complex. It's reminiscent of an Enmore from the last century, with a strong penchant for spices (chili, licorice, vanilla), leather, cocoa, wood and toasty notes. This dark, rather heavy profile is accompanied by aromatic herbs on black tea and dried fruit (prune), adding depth on the palate. Time has also taken its toll on the alcohol, which is superbly well integrated. The finish offers a contrast between the darker side (roasted wood, smoky notes, leather, chili and licorice) that moves towards bitterness, and the softer notes of caramel, burnt sugar and dried fruit. It's not as intense as the nose or palate, but leaves a beautiful imprint of the past on the palate. A superb rum, admittedly expensive, but one that will go down in rum history.

Never expected to try this, but when I saw it at my favorite whisky-bar, it was a no-brainer. A piece of rums history here. Very impressive in the color, and in the nose it has a chocolate and ripe fruit scent to it. I found deep notes of berries, cocoa and oak as well

My souvenir from the GRF to mark Black Tot Day. Quite heavy and settled on the nose, dried fruit and raisins. Also heavy on the palate, old leather armchair and dried fruit. Some diesel funk comes through, probably due to the Caroni component. The finish is of medium length, the heavier aromas linger for a moment. Compared to the 50th Anniversary, I find it heavier and less salty. A really great rum, but I personally like the 50th Anniversary even better. In my opinion, the Last Consignment is not worth the price of 800-900€ in terms of taste, but you are paying for a rarity and a piece of liquid rum history.

the rum necessarily give enough time in the glass! On the nose first (somewhat intrusive) Maggi spice, but then also more and more raisins, dried fig, nutmeg, butterscotch, malt and roast aroma. The palate I like even a bit better than the nose (which is rather rare): a great spice note with a very intense honey note. The finish continues this very nicely, with honeycomb, raisin, licorice and cocoa. Perhaps a bit sweeter, but otherwise the spicy-intense nature reminds me of the Velier Damoiseau 1980.

An incredibly complex rum. Guyana dominates the nose. Wood, raisins, prunes, lots of leather and malt. Slightly bitter in taste, but in a pleasant way. The taste is consistent, complemented by pepper and licorice. The alcohol is perfectly integrated and it remains long and warm with honey. Great navy rum.

I like rums with a story and this one is very strong here, so strong that I accept the price before I take a sip. But the rum itself doesn't disappoint here. I let it breathe in the glass for about 20 minutes. I smell old wood, leather and caramel. In the taste I was surprised by the sweetness at the beginning, followed by notes of leather, wood, vanilla and caramel with the alcohol perfectly integrated. The finish is intense, long and very pleasant. A beautiful drink!

I tasted this a while ago, but recently came to the conclusion that I never put it in the app. Thank god for the photo and notes. From memory it was very woody with saltiness (Maggi) and old (musty). But it was good, it was like tasting a piece of rum history and that’s what it is in fact.

Juhuuu ! Das schmeckt mir echt gut ! Und dieser schwere, fleischige und rauchige Grundton ist genau mein Ding ! Die Nase ist erstmal fruchtig, holzig mit Leder, Dörrpflaumen, dunkler Schokolade und Fass. Ich merke, dass ich es hier mit einem alten Rum zu tun habe, welcher sich lange setzen konnte. Dann kommen Maggi, Eiche, Malz, Vanille, Karamell, Mokka, Speck und Tabak hinzu. Unheimlich komplex geht es weiter. Am Gaumen habe ich neben der angenehmen Würze das alte Holz, Leder, Melasse, dunkle Schokolade, Dörrpflaume und Fassnoten. Lakritze, Eiche, Röstnoten, Malz und Kräuter erweitern das schwere Aromenspektakel gekonnt. Der lange Abgang ist sehr komplex und schwer. Zu den Aromen vom Gaumen gesellen sich noch etwas rauchiges, aber auch eine süßliche Honignote. Nase, Gaumen und Abgang haben alle einen leicht fleischigen Charakter welcher dem Rum sehr gut steht und die Röstaromen beflügelt. Mega toller Rum aus einer anderen Zeit. I had a lot of anticipation for this one - one of those samples I was so excited to access through the Rum-X community. This is just one of those rums with such an interesting story and history that my curiosity was off the charts, even if this is mostly gimmick & marketing…so, the real question, did it deliver? On the nose it is very pleasant - chocolate, wood, leather tobacco, raisin, hints of caramel. Everything is fairly soft and warm, yet still complex. The Guyana influence stood out most, and my guess is Barbados makes up a good portion with hints of a minor Jamaican component that still finds a way to poke out. There may a be a little tar note from a Caroni/Trinidad component but I’d say this is less clear. On the palate this one is pretty suave, a really nice wood note, some bitterness reminiscent of chocolate covered coffee beans, peppery spice, leather and toasted brown sugar. Verdict: this history makes this rum fun. I’m very glad I got to purchase a sample rather than a bottle. This is very good - I would happily drink it. It’s absolutely not worth the price on its own - in a blind testing few would taste this and guess the price tag accurately. But as a chance to taste a little piece of legend and lore and still get a good rum experience, it’s pretty hard to complain. Many thanks to Lot-Nas for making this sample possible.

It’s one heck of a rum, enjoyed in celebration of HRH’s extraordinary reign. A complex and layered rum with more notes and differing elements than any rum I can remember in recent times - it just keeps giving more. The nose is approachable and enticing, with a real malt and barn door undertone alongside dark chocolate and orange prune the more you lean in. The mouth brings layer upon layer of flavour, starting with caramel and rose, moving to leather and licorice, chased by tobacco and a deep maggi which gets your saliva buds running. The finish is decadent and long but the weakest part of the rum, softly dissapating into spice and smoke when I want more power and flavour. A sip of history given the provenance for sure, and a rum I am delighted to have tried

In direct comparison to the BT50, the LC is clearly spicier in smell. Maggi hits it here quite well. In addition, much barrel aromas and dried fruit in the background. Nicely integrated alcohol and overall round.

heavy, deep and intense rum with a classic profile of old demerara rums. It’s not that far from the Cadenhead‘s 1964 PM I tasted recently. So I do not really understand the „just“ 9.0 rating. This is a very rich, complex and intense rum that has a looooong finish. Caramelised walnuts soaked in espresso and dark chocolate, A perfectly balanced sweetness of dried dates and figs. Amazing and top league!

Oh how nice such a Navy Tasting. Personally, I liked the longer maturation in the 40Y better, the fruit notes are more pronounced here compared to the wood notes than in the 40Y. But that's complaining at a high level, we still have a cool Navy rum here.

Really wonderful experience. You can get a lot of Guyana (dark dried fruits, cinnamon) alongside a more dirtier note (burnt sugar, herbs), plus a fresh minty flavor. Cannot say if it is worth the hefty price tag, but it is indeed worth at least trying it !

Heavy and dark, characterized by tropically matured Demerara rum (REV). Great alcohol integration, high complexity, only the fruit component is rather lost. For a "sailor rum", however, it is undoubtedly of outstanding quality.

Nase: Erst nasses Holz, feuchter Wald mit viel Pflaume, an 70s PMs erinnernd. Dann zunehmend Umami & speckig mit etwas Sojasauce. Gaumen: nur im Antruck Süße, dann sehr schnell recht trocken werdend. Viel Holz, Leder und Lakritz und klassisch italienischer Ristretto. Recht kurzer und bitterer Abgang. Für mich ein sehr guter Rum, aber irgendwie wird er dem Pathos doch nicht ganz gerecht. Würde die meisten 70er PMs deutlich vorziehen.

Die Nase rauchig, Tabak, Leder, Fass und auch die Rosine am start. Vergorene Maische. Am Gaumen dann eine enorme Kraft. Sehr holzig sehr viel Fass. Aber richtig viel Komplexität . Eine richtige Granate. Allerdings überzeugt er mich nicht 100%.

Ich lese gerade das Buch über Navy Rum von Matt und Alexandre, und welchen besseren Anlass soll es geben mein Sample des Last Consignment zu öffnen? Auch wenn es ein Schluck flüssiger Geschichte ist, habe ich eigentlich nicht viel erwartet. Er ist aber wirklich lecker. Soll ich wirklich glauben, dieses Zeug wurde auf den Schiffen Ihrer Majestät an einfache Matrosen ausgeschenkt?!

Heavy! Very toasty, heavy, raisin, smoke, peat/tobacco and smoked bacon! The longer it stands in the air, the more licorice notes. The lady needs time to breathe! Pleasant sweetness. Absolutely full-bodied!

Eingeschenkt verströmt der Black Tot sofort einen intensiven, vollen würzigen Geruch. Wundervolle würzig holzige Nase. Maggi kommt mir in den Sinn, Rosine. Im Geschmack setzt sich dieser Eindruck fort. Voll, würzig, malzig. Im Abgang leider nicht so lang wie ich es mir wünschen würde. Ganz toller Rum, leider unerschwinglich.
