Aroma visualization from community tastings
El Ron Prohibido Habanero Solera 12
"Okay. Nothing more, nothing less," is roughly where most tasters land. You get caramel, burnt sugar and vanilla with a spicy, raisin-wine edge, but the nose is loudly alcoholic and the finish comes up short and flat. Several folks note the youngest rum in the blend bites through. Some catch a smoky, whiskey-like tone; most just find it sweet and a bit rough.
The community says- Caramel and vanilla
- Harshly alcoholic nose
- Flat short finish

How does El Ron Prohibido Habanero Solera 12 taste?
Aggregated from 144 community reviews.
Sweet, spirity mixer rather than a sipper Divisive and mostly middling. Fans of sweet, spiced styles get by, but many call it flat, harsh on the nose and better mixed than sipped. A few near-zero scores drag it down.

Very nice spices. Soft tone

Nose: At first this is interesting: a bit leathery and earthy like unwashed potatoes. After a while it settles on dried fruit (raisins and dates), burnt sugar, alongside vanilla spices. The younger rum of the solera bites through harshly. Late on, perhaps some dark cherry. It's not intense enough in the balance of things. The empty glass smells of dull vanilla-flavoured chocolate. Mouth: Enters sweet on the tongue and dissolves into dark dried fruit, vanilla and peppery spice. There's a bitter tang, which is perhaps due to finishing in raisin wine barrels. The youth of the blend is too prominent against the aged components for this to work. Finish: Short, unrefined, bitter and sugary. Forgettably flat. It really needed a good finish to prove the success of the solera. Impression: Despite the corny appearance of the bottle, the rum itself does little to stand out, and even goes missing in a glass of cola.

Worst rum, what I ever tried. Absolutely disgusting. Smells like nothing, with hint of biscuits & burnt sugar. Very sweet, and this all ! Just sweet, caramel taste, & little bit of alcohol. Non texture, non balance, nothing. And shortest aftertaste ever ! Horrible!

Tastes slightly alcoholic but is still good to drink neat. The flavor is more alcoholic than the taste. It actually tastes quite good neat.
Review by Schnapsschuesse
Maggi, mocha, spice, gasoline. Phew, the nose is independent but special. Unfortunately then quite strangely alcoholic, spicy sweetness, burnt raisin. I don't enjoy it, but it could be fun to shake in tikis. Addendum: No. Even the Bacardi Carta Negra is better. I don't know how this can stay on the market. Burnt, too sweet and fizzy at the same time.

Unfortunately, not particularly high quality, not very balanced, flat, dry and boring.

Sweet and spicy is the first thing that comes to mind, then rusty notes but all in all a bit rough and dirty. There is much more balanced stuff for the money.

No great interest

A strong alcoholic nose with a caramel aftertaste. Same palate as the nose, too much alcohol. Very nice bottle, too bad the container doesn't match the bottle. Good for cocktails.

Verry smokey taste and finish. Almost like whiskey

Sometimes I've loved it, sometimes not so much. I don't know if I would repeat
Review by Zavo “Zavobier” Bier
The glass that comes with the rum (gift box) is beautiful, as is the bottle. The rum is extremely alcoholic in smell, taste and aftertaste. The spicy sweetness in the background makes it perhaps a good mix rum, for spicy strong long drinks or cocktails. Not suitable for pure enjoyment in my opinion. A small addendum: I have now used the rum for a Dark'n Stormy cocktail and I can only say that it is perfect for this.

I really didn't like this rum. It's like it's been mixed with red wine. It's awful

Read full review →Personally I would also tone down the sweetness a notch or two. I can see this rum appealing to Spiced Rum drinkers. All in all not a bad rum but nothing to get too excited about and there are probably another thousand rums in the £20-25 price bracket I will...
