Spirit of the day #3 La Reunion 2017
The surprise here is how briny it gets — several tasters pick up green olive and salty savanna character next to tropical fruit, butterscotch and young Bourbon-cask vanilla. One member spotted it blind as Savanna. The recurring complaint is the alcohol: at 60.9% it's often "not so well integrated," turning hot and thin on the palate despite the fruit underneath.

How does Spirit of the day #3 La Reunion 2017 taste?
Aggregated from 34 community reviews.
Young, briny Reunion rum, hot and thin A wild, young Reunion column rum with olive, tropical fruit and buttery caramel. Genuinely interesting, but most agree the heat overshadows it — a longer tropical aging would've helped.

There are good foundations, but I find this rum a little unstructured. It would have benefited from longer tropical aging. Its main negative point is the integration of alcohol. The attack on the palate is not obvious. What I liked was the fruitiness, the caramel aspect and the smoky vanilla touches. Given the price of some bottles of Savanna, it's a good buy.

To describe it briefly and concisely, this bottling has a very poorly integrated alcohol. It overpowers pretty much everything on the nose and palate. Even after some time, there is not much more to it. Despite the alcohol, it seems a little watered down.

The nose is ok, it's fruity and pleasant. You can taste there's something but it's overwhelmed by the alcohol. I don't get the reunion vibe. The finish is vegetal. Conclusion: Lack flavours for the proof.

Again, the alcohol is far too intense and the taste is far too thin for the high alcohol content. It's a shame, there's a lot more flavor here, but in the end it comes across like a 40% Savanna Traditional that has been fortified with neutral alcohol.

Tasted during a visit to Versus vins et spiritueux. Thanks for the tasting. Rare are the wine shops with such beautiful products to taste. A "young" 7-year-old with only 2 years of ageing on Bourbon Island. Quite an intense nose, quite a lot of cooked fruit, rather tropical, spices, and a little brine. I found it hard to grasp, as if it lacked some. Tropical aging versus continental. The 60 bourrins sting a little on the palate, making it quite intense. Bourbon vanilla and caramel, fruit between fresh and stewed, spices and green olives in the background. I'll have to find another sample to confirm this first impression.

#5826 04.10.2025 Warming up before going to the Nobilis Warehouse Tasting #3. Nose Round, light wood, faint smoke, fruity, light citrus, light cherry, light floral, light olive. Palate Round, light wood, light smoke, fruity, light cherry, spice, light floral, light mineral, spicy, dried fruit. Finish Medium to long, light wood, spicy, raisin, light floral. Empty glass Spice, light floral, light perfume, faint chocolate. Needs to rest for a while to really open up properly, ABV could have been better integrated.

Good product, but not crazy either. Cooked fruit, light brine, but lacks depth. I expected more. Considering the price, it's still decent, but without emotion.
