Habitation Velier Clarendon EMB 2010
Woody and spicy up front, with overripe banana, tropical fruit, vanilla and a little glue underneath. This Habitation Velier Monymusk (mark EMB) wears its nine tropical years surprisingly well, tasting older than it is. Esters sit in the background rather than shouting, so it reads more balanced than raw. Give it air and a few drops of water; several tasters say that's when it really opens.
The community says- Balanced wood and fruit
- Alcohol well integrated
- But: Can turn bitter

Woody, fruity Jamaican with tame funk A widely-loved younger Monymusk: woody, fruity and well-balanced with the 62% tucked in tight. Not the deepest EMB, but honest value and lots of character. Best with air and water.

Powerful Clarendon with a distinctive profile. On the nose, fermented fruits, vanilla, and a bit of wood, accompanied by a hint of glue. On the palate, ripe banana, spice, and a slightly bitter note that gives the rum depth. The alcohol is present but well integrated. Overall intense, spicy, and full of character, with a clear signature of the distillery.

Very harmonious monymusk! Tobacco, mango, banana, papaya, lychee, roasted nuts and sesame, coffee, dark chocolate and plenty of vanilla, tannins and barrel! Also very subtle notes of tobacco and menthol, very fat! 🇯🇲🤘 Also makes a hammer mai tai!

A small Monymusk comparison. Velier Monymusk 2007: Difficult to access, with fruit and very spicy. Very simple. Somewhat spicy. Quite tasty, but nothing that demands to be tasted again. Second tasting: -4 points Habitation Monymusk 2010: Woody, spicy, fruity. The alcohol is very well integrated The rum is very well balanced and is fun with every sip! Second tasting: = points

Despite the relatively young age this is a piece of heaven! If you add a few drops of water it releases even more tastes in your mouth previously hidden by the alcohol. An excellent rum that you should give a try. But careful it might want you to go for seconds and thirds 😊
Review by Gunnar Böhme "Bauerngaumen" 🤓
Hmm, found it rather ... average. But maybe I'm just too spoiled by the almost consistently outstanding 95 EMBs. Positively striking: the thick, oily streaks in the glass after drinking. In any case, at the time when I could still buy the bottle without much search, with <100 EUR very attractive PLV on the initial market. Will give the rum again a second chance. Update 2023-10-11: Got a noticeably better impression of this rum today. Nice depth, quite amazing for a 9 year old rum. The parallel tasted Clarendon from Cadenhead's (RX16692) with only relaxed 55% vol. can not keep up with this rum despite 3 years longer storage in any respect.
Review by Jakob
Very good rum and probably the leading representative among the younger Monymusks. The deep mint note of the 1995 vintage is gone from this bottling, but still an excellent rum with a lively profile.
Review by DomM
Very nice MM indeed. The bottling is displaying a young yet fairly woody EMB profile given its age. Feels very round and complex despite its relatively low age. Alcohol is exceptionally well integrated.

#17 RumXCalendar Blind tasting: Nose: fruity, banana, apricot, woody, vanilla, ester, glue, minty M: woody, apricot, ester, delicious F: oak, vanilla, delicious Prediction: WOW what an amzing rum!!This could be easily n24! Nose and in mouth like a woody funky jamaican, approx. 60% and about 10years old…. Very delicious rum! Not to woody! Alcohol is intergrated very well. Nose: woody, ester, glue, fruity, banana, apricot, litchi, pineapple, ester, glue, cream, minty, tobacco Mouth: dry, intense, delicious, balanced, woody, oak, vanilla, almond, toasted, mango, apricot Finish: long, dry, delicous, warm, vanilla, oak, dark chocolate, toasted
Review by Thunderbird
In the nose is hardly noticeable alcohol, first a clear fruity note that gradually moves towards spice! A slight sweetness is also perceptible. In the mouth, the rum immediately spreads very smoothly and fills the room completely. Initially, a slight sweetness that after initial slight burning turns into a woody spicy (anise) flavor! The rum seems a bit bitter and dry, but very tasty! The alcohol is super integrated! The finish is long and continues the woody spicy tone!I am very takenToday tasted again in comparison! He remains for me still reference15.04.23:Today the EMB times in comparison to the MMW from 2015 tasted. The EMB is clearly more present and complex in contrast to the MMW. This is clearly more harmonious !Overall a great duo

Review by RumTaTa
Review by Aussierumfan
A very nice monymusk with just the right amount of woody spice. Peppery, tropical fruits with a lovely sweetness in the background. Slightly smokey? Perfectly integrated alcahol and a nice level of complexity. Didn't knock my socks off but still at a very high level.
Review by Tschusikowsky
Edit: RumX Advent Calendar 12/17/21Nose dried fruit, caramel, warm, nutty, light passion fruit, some red and tropical fruit, raisins, prune, toasted, light glue. Mouth: woody, passion fruit, tropical fruit, full-bodied, tobacco, astringent, banana. Finish: banana, bitter, warm, grapey, cocoa, wood.Funny how your head fools you. Blind I would not have bet on MM. But no sooner did I look than I subsequently tasted the character of MM. A tropical beast that has it in itself, but it's worth it.

Review by lukasdrinkinghabits
Took a few tries. I expected a beast and found balance. The rum is one tropical fruit salad with a good shot of rum in the sauce. Mango and passion fruit are the leading notes typical of clarendon. The wood brings spice and sweetness in fantastic balance. On the one hand, the young age keeps the rum nice and fresh, but on the other hand, it lacks some depth and complexity. A great rum. Unfortunately, the bottle I ordered never arrived 😢

Nice monymusk profile. A somewhat wilder fellow on the palate. Needs time and water. The appropriate music: Ken Boothe "Artibella".

Lively nose, leather and overripe banana, light varnish and woody/vanilla notes. The alcohol is very well integrated on the palate, and the aromas are immediately present: varnished wood, leather and fruit. The finish is moderately long, with the same aromas. An interesting rum, fresh and mature. A lot of pleasure, even if the complexity isn't quite there.
Review by Christoph
Unexpectedly woody, though still subtle. Ester comes here only in 2nd place. The taste reminds me totally of marshmallows and brown sugar with the smoke in the air when you sit around the campfire. Fruits are barely present here, something orange-like in the finish as with Cointreau.
Review by Sebastian Kornett
A very spicy Jamaican. Is my first Monymusk. For its 9 years, the barrel has had proper influence. Very spicy and woody finish with a slight sweetness that doesn't overpower the wood. Very complex. A very powerful Jamaican. For the price it is a clear buy recommendation.

Review by TheRhumhoe
A very tasty and aromatic Monymusk. The nose has a good balance between phenolic notes (ester, glue, solvents), pastry aromas (marzipan, cookie dough, caramel), exotic fruits (banana, pineapple, mango, marmalade) and woody and spicy notes (pepper, vanilla). There is a slight touch of chocolate and toasted notes that complete this beautiful nose very sensual for a Jamaican. The attack in the mouth is powerful, astringent and funky. Esters, glue, exotic fruits and citrus (orange) bring a first salvo of flavors to the palate. Then spices (pepper, chili, vanilla) and wood surface and tame the funk to a very balanced blend that takes advantage of the best Monymusk has to offer. The alcohol is very well integrated. The long, dry finish continues with bitterness (leather and dark chocolate), esters, orange, exotic fruit, wood and spice (aniseed in particular). A very nice profile, which presents a nice balance of flavors and avoids the overdose of esters.

RumX Advent Calendar, 17.12., blind.First impression: around 60%, could be Guyana, a nice Enmore, but also has hints of Jamaica. The Mony's are similar. Nose: intense and full-bodied. Fruity fresh yet lightly vinegar and a little ester. Sweetness of tropical fruit and apricot. Plus soft caramel notes of cream toffee and tart sweetness of maple syrup. Some leather and wood in the back, spicy with vanilla. Very round, very nice.Palate: dry and astringent, plus slightly bitter-salty. Comes on strong and spicy with slightly sour esters. There is some wood or tree bark with resinous hints and a malty, toasty note. A subtle orange note underscores the whole. Very tasty and also totally round on the palate. finish dry, woody, sour cherry and anise.

Of course, there are better bottlings of the Marks EMB, but for the price and age, this one is a knockout and still one of my favorites. Nice balance between the dark notes (wood, coffee, chocolate) and the fruit.
Review by Timo Groeger

Review by Piotr Ignasiak
Retasting from today Great balance with basket of fruit: plums, papaya, litchi, banana, then almonds and coffee. Some spiciness on palate but other than that full enjoyment. The dark notes remind me a bit of Teca 05. Glad to have a bottle. '95 coming right up. Original note Very nice and full, it's syropy, has fresh and ripe fruits behind, some solvent and light barrel touch.

RumXmas #17 This is something I’ve never tasted before and couldn’t quite put into place, so I didn’t really make an effort besides taking my time to enjoy it. I like the balance in flavors without something that’s overpowering or dominating. Alcohol integrated very well. Would buy a bottle without a second of hesitation.

Toller Monymusk, Wahnsinn was 9y in den Tropen schaffen.
Review by tojo
On the nose a lot of red fruits such as sour cherry or red grapes or red wine. Also raisin and plum. On the palate, in addition to fruit, dry wood, spices and a distinct sweetness.

A greedy and balanced Monymusk. The Jamaican touch is there but without falling into something too acidic, far from it

Review by mto75
Review by Buddudharma
Great Jamaican rum with relatively low ester content. Great flavor profile, creamy consistency, good alcohol integration, reasonable price-what more could you ask for?
Review by Mike H.
Hits all the flavors I appreciate. Wood, vanilla, ester, tropical fruit in nose and mouth. Brilliant HV!
Review by Stylo
Nose: initial bouquet made of wood, vanilla and a peppery note. Then I get a punchy hint of glue, well hidden by the woody notes..but there’s also a fruity note that I’m having some difficult to discern..I would guess dark fruits/ berries..but unsure.. Palate: very warm, mildly astringent, with a touch of esters and funkiness to it, that develops into a fruity mid palate of pineapple and bananas strangely coupled with red grapes and plums Finish: woody, raisins and some sweet spices(vanilla, aniseed or sweet licorice).
Review by Paul Segui

Erster 2010er EMB heute. Tropische Früchte (vor allem Banane), Gewürze und Holz von Anfang bis Ende. Ester eher im Hintergrund. Ausgewogene Kombination der Geschmäcker. Der Alkohol ist super integriert.
Review by Rene Pfeiffer

Review by Rhum Mirror 🇧🇪
The nose is complex and greedy. Sweet, dried, overripe fruits are there (pineapple, mango, banana). A lot of esters, some wood, vanilla and milk chocolate. It's really nice this sweet Jamaican flavor. In mouth, there is some pep but the alcohol is perfectly integrated. It's quite greedy with the apples and bananas that shape the profile. Then also vanilla and creamy caramel. It's both complex and very pleasant in the mouth, we taste it with pleasure. The finish is long on olive and roasted nuts.

Read full review →Nose The first impression is so lovely that it makes one sit down. Imagine a thick fruit pot of plums, overripe bananas, figs and apricots, that were pickled in honey, almond paste and coconut butter for a month, and then refined with crushed vanilla pots, espresso beans and appleseeds and a very few mint leaves. It's a whole dessert composition. After a few minutes in the glass a slight dirtiness arises, with an idea of wet mud in the forest, mushrooms and noble mold (we offer bleu d'Auvergne or Roquefort). With water: Herbaceous notes up, with cress, more mud and wet leaves, old molasses and lavender oil. Palate Mi corazón! It's so full-bodied, beautifully herbaceous and really spicy (the tropes know how to squeeze an oak). Maybe a hair's breath too spicy. Beware of the funk now. We get tamarind paste, overripe bananas and fermented pineapple juice. With water: Doesn't loose intensity, just becomes more delicate, with vanilla cake and a wave of salted caramel fudge. Finish Longer than O. J. Simpsons trial, with a pronounced lemon and grapefruit bitterness, burnt agaves and the abrasion of new tyres (the taste of Le Mans).

Tasting this after a lot of 1995, this stands it ground amendable. A nice mix that shows its youth on the palate but never gets in the ranks of being bad. A very nice wood and lovely finish that leaves you wanting for more
