Levy Lane Tamosi Trinidad 2003
Nose gets the split verdict: almost everyone finds it closed and a touch alcohol-sharp, and the reward all lands on the palate. There you get big mint and eucalyptus, oily texture, caramel sweetness, dried peach and cassis, with roasted wood behind. One taster called it a real "Minz-Bombe." Concentrated and dry-finishing rather than fresh and loud.

Update 16.02.2025: Once again my big TDL crosstasting. The Nobilis TDL 2003, the Kill Devil 13 yo 2003, the Tamosi 2003, the first TWJ 2003 19yo and the new WDC 22yo. We know that the Nobilis, Kill Devil and WDC come from 02/2003. For the others, the exact batch is unclear. Unfortunately, I’m missing one of the CDIs from April 2003 today – I assume the TWJ is from April. In the rating, I like the TWJ best, the Kill Devil falls behind. WDC, Tamosi and WDC are roughly on par with slight advantages for the Tamosi. All very tasty, but far from the top class of the vintage, the CDIs for 1802, Caksus or Premium Spiritus. Original 25.12.2025: Tasting the Tamosi 2003 together with the CDI 2003 for Premium Spirits and the Swell 2003. The Tamosi is very soft on the nose, with caramel, polish and just a hint of mint. The yellow fruits are completely missing, instead there are nuts, sweet dates, nutmeg blossom and ginger – you could think of gingerbread. In the mouth, the peach that’s missing on the nose surprises you. Not very fresh, more dried and candied – like the candied orange peel in gingerbread. Also dried mango. The mint remains scarce. The mouth is much fruitier than the nose, but by far not as intense and fresh as with the CDI for PS. In the finish, the mint comes through again for longer. Menthol-y, with dried mango. That’s very tasty. I really like this rum. It’s more harmonious than, for example, the first TWJ from 2003, it’s not as wood-hammer menthol-y as other CDIs, but the almost Spanish-sweet nose can’t fully convince me.

I'm a bit torn right now. Definitely a bit better than the Swell last night. But it still can't really keep up with the Owl. I think something is bothering me a bit or I just can't cope with the profile at the moment.

8,4:On the nose, the first impression we get is woody with smoky touch and notes like caramel, nuts, some spice like cinnamon and industrial with rubber. From fruits, we notice an orange. On aeration, a molasses is herbal and minty, with black tea, as the most obvious fruit us a cherry.Some medicinal notes pop up, as well as bacon. 8,6:On the palate, the attack is fruity with banana, mandarine and red fruits, woody, oily with roasted, a bit smoky, spicy wood notes like caramel burnt sugar, leather, cinnamon, vanilla, clove and industrial, medicinal with dirty notes, some menthol.The molasses is herbaceous.With resting, delicious peaches and currants join in. 8,4:The finish is long with dry, spicy and roasted smoky wood notes, a bit tannic, the industrial notes are quite heavy with petrol, rubber, menthol, they come a bit bitter.The fruits are dried apricots, raisins, currants, mango and citrus as the molasses brings tea, is earthy...

Passion fruit and cassis combo. Very dense and concentrated in the mouth. Absolutely top, I like it very much. Very slightly salty and medicinal on the nose. Oily and syrupy. The finish is also good. Unfortunately disappointing on the nose.

#6960 25.06.2026 My son is on the way to visit his mom in China and my training is done for today. Time for some samples before my wife gets home from work. Pretty good rum with a decent price tag. Intense profile with fruits, polish, spice, varnish, mint, herbs and roasted wood.

Mini sample during bottling. Very closed on the nose. Not much comes through at the moment. A little caramel, a little vanilla, a little mint. Very little fruit. But in the mouth it's full of wonderful mint and sweetness. Red fruit alongside. Alcohol perfectly integrated. Slightly mineral and more woody at the back (but not at all overloaded). Quite a short finish. Deduction in the B grade due to the nose. But great in the mouth. Let's see how it is at the next tasting.

We have a real mint bomb here in the glass. It really comes through when you give it a few minutes. In the very soft nose it is even less so on the palate, almost brutally engaging. It goes so far that it's almost too one-sided for me, even though it simply tastes very good.

Completely different profile to the Swell on Tour: Dirty, medicinal, a decent broadside of menthol, plus cassis / blackcurrant compote, sour cherry, smoky slightly bacony aromas almost, dark caramelized pearl onions... The nose is unfortunately relatively pungent from the alcohol even after almost an hour of breathing, the palate is okay but also not ideal from the alcohol integration. Therefore slight deductions. Exciting and intense profile, but nowhere near the level of tamosi's predecessor, the grandiose 2000 TDL. That was really terrific!🇹🇹

An der Nase überzeugt er mich immer noch nicht, aber ich muss sagen, nachdem die Flasche jetzt eine Weile offen ist liefert er am Gaumen für meinen Geschmack dann doch gut ab. Ich stehe eher auf die minzig-krautigen TDL und da ist dieser eher etwas zurückhaltender, dafür hat dieser TDL 2003 für meinen Geschmack aber eine sehr schöne Balance. Mir fehlen zwar etwas die hellen gelben Früchte, dafür finde ich hier mehr Cassis und auch leicht Kakao. Wirklich eine schöne Abfüllung und ich bereue es mittlerweile nicht mehr, mir hiervon eine Flasche zugelegt zu haben.

On the nose: Woody, vanilla and caramel notes. After some time in the glass you more of minty and herbal notes. Quite soft and easy on the nose. Taste: Warm with little bit of oil on the mouthfeel. Strong minty, herbal/eucalyptus notes with little bit of smoke notes at the background. The abv is integrated nicely, its giving the flavour notes the strong body that they require. On the first sips i did get some nice dried peach notes, but as the rum opened up in the glass the minty/eucalyptus/menthol notes took over. Finish: Minty/earthy and menthol notes. Woody notes. Little bit of bacon notes. Finishes of dry and little bit of minty notes on the background. Nice and long finish I really enjoyed sipping this rum, i dont remember tasting rum that really nails the mint/eucalyptus notes quite as good as this rum does.

Maybe vanilla on the nose, but it is not really opening up for smelling. You can taste a nice oily texture along with mint and a hint of wood in the background.

Typical, very good TDL with that specific minty note. However, my sample unfortunately has a soapy off-note. I don't know whether this is due to my sample or to the rum itself.

Comme beaucoup de commentaires précédents, je trouve le nez peu expressif. La bouche est plus intéressante : on trouve un fruité porté pour moi par le litchi, de la fraicheur et un structure boisé qui amène une dimension intéressante de fruit à coque. Final pimenté et assechante mais néanmoins fruité. Il rappelle la précédente édition de 2000.

Intensives Pottpourri an Minz-Eukalyptus, Fass- und Röstnoten, dunklen Gewürzen, nahezu versteckten Fruchtaromen von Pfirsich und dunklen Beeren sowie einer durchaus präsenten Süsse von Karamell. Im Abgang durchaus etwas dreckig-kratzig, aber insgesamt für meinen Geschmack angenehm ausgewogen. Tolles Release.

In der Nase verschlossen und eher zurückhaltend. Am Gaumen intensiv und komplex wirkt er angenehm dreckig und ölig. Bleibt mittellang im Mund, aber dafür schön lange trocken. Eine gemischte Kiste. Kein "In your Face" TDL wie manch ein CDI oder TWJ. Eher konzentriert und schwer. Gefällt mir individuell sehr gut, aber im Vergleich kann er nicht ganz mit anderen 2003er TDLs mithalten.

And the last one for total is dieser Trinidad. Gefällt mir wirklich gut. Minzevund Eukalyptus dominieren, was auf T.D.L schließen lässt. Ansonsten kann man noch ein wenig Kräuter, Karamell und Holz erkennen.
