A real TDL bombshell. From nose to finish, mint, wood, and blackcurrants dominate. The nose is already heavy with added cherry and leather. On the palate, in addition to mint, there's menthol, which makes the whole thing feel fresh; alongside that, tea and peach. I'm really glad to still have a bottle of this rum.

Swell & RumX, these are excellent conditions. Once again a great 2001 T.D.L. Very (dark) fruity and woody, which I really like the balance here. Mint also pokes through again and again, sometimes less, sometimes more bitter and gets its wide stage especially in the finish. Anyone who likes a strong minty note will probably score a few points higher here.

👃 a pungent mix of fruits (mango, apricot, blackcurrant) bathed in alcohol on a background of caramel, cinnamon, varnish with a little smoke. 👄 it's fat, fleshy, enveloping with woodiness, a little honey and menthol, esters, pepper coming through especially on the long finish. I understand that some people really like this kind of esterified rum with very present alcohol, but it's not to my taste.

Edit: a teabag side note in the store, a hint of spice, and a nice tangy sweet finish! First impression: A great time behind the Swell counter at Rhum Fest Paris. An ultra-fruity profile, lots of blackcurrant I think, a fair amount of mint, and a discreet boise at the start that sintensifies on the finish. An almost infinite finish. Superb!

First thought at the first nose: Mauritius, New Grove Distillery, nice intense nose, I already like it very much. Palate: hmm, could also be St. Lucia Chairmans Reserve or T.D.L (mint!) Very intense, too intense for New Grove, too minty for St. Lucia so T.D.L. Alcohol approx. 55% Finish: super long with sour cherries, mint and wood/barrel Excellent rum, I particularly like the intense aromas with red fruits. The barrel influence is just in the green range, the finish is already bitter. Alcohol very well integrated. Resolution: YES! T.D.L is correct Alcohol is also almost right this time.

Thanks @Rob for opening this bottle at RhumFest. Not the best conditions to test it, but we've got the framework of these TDL 2001s with omnipresent blackcurrant and menthol wrapped in an old wood full of elegance and a slight bitterness. It should be given more time, but for a quick tasting, it was very good. I particularly appreciated the fact that it was a few degrees lower than its congeners.

Dégusté au Rhum Fest Paris 2025, j'ai réussi à me procurer un exemplaire le jour de la sortie. aujourd'hui, la bouteille est tuée 🔪🔪🔪 👃 Fruits intenses, explosifs entre les fruits tropicaux tels que les fruits de la passion, la papaye bien mûre, la carambole et les baies (cassis bien sûr, peut-être groseille aussi). La menthe verte bien présente, boisé assez discret. N.B. avec le temps et l'oxydation, je trouve cette agréable odeur herbacée de chanvre et un peu d'hydrocarbure. 😋 On retrouve cette explosion complexe de fruits, c'est acidulé, la fraicheur du chewing gum Hollywood, un peu de camphre, beaucoup de menthol, bonbon à la menthe blanche. Le boisé est plus présent mais très bien fondu, notes de torréfaction (café) et empyreumatique léger aussi (essence, goudron chaud). ⛳ Finale très longue, intense, aromatique, expressive, portée par la menthe poivrée, les baies, une légère amertume médicinale. 💡 Alcool très bien intégré, le boisé est élégant, avec une trame fruitée type TDL 2003 de The Whisky Jury. Bizarrement pas trop boisé par rapport au Rum Artesanal 67° avec 3 ans de plus au compteur. Une théorie serait qu'il soit passé quelques temps en Dame-Jeanne pour l'adoucir ? Au niveau intensité, ce qu'on perd en kick et punch de l'alcool sur un Rasta Morris ou un Nobilis est contrebalancé par plus de "douceur" sur le Swell. 🏆 Classement actuel TDL 2001 : RM > Caksus > Flag > Swell > RA1 > Antipodes > RA2 > TCRL > Cadenhead

Rich and intense on the nose. Driven by fruits (peach/apricot) balancing against dark wood and leathery notes, paying tribute to the long time in the cask. Notes of sweetned black tea and (only) a hint of mint. The palate starts of with the same fruity cocktail and some sweetness. The sweetness nicely balances versus ample notes of wood and leather providing a very mature TDL profile. Bitterness is moderate overall, yet you need to appreciate the more woody side of things to fully enjoy this bottling. Cheers to Mika for providing this exceptional cask for a RumX co-bottling. Was a pleasure to select. :)

In extremely fruity and delicious nose with herbs, flowers and a light menthol. Spices, peach and cherry, light oak, all combine to make this a complex nose. The palate is complex and powerful from the outset, and the aromas continue to build. The fruit is there, as are the spices. The wood comes through on the finish, with bitter tannins and refreshing acidity. The finish is rather long, with woody, bitter tannins at the very end. Wow! What a great rum!

9,3:On the nose, roasted wood, smoky with leather, nuts, caramel, intense, spicy with nutmeg, various fruits like passion fruit, red fruits, blackcurrant, blackberry and cherries, minty, herbaceous molasses, slightly sweet, bump into our nosetrils. On aeration, the intensity calms down and we get a top round and balanced rum, the molasses becomes flowery, fresh with tea, sweet with brown sugar, raspberry, strawberry and citrus fruits join, chocolate and hints of tannins. 8,9:On the palate, the attack is intense, bitter, salty, slightly tannic, medicinal with menthol, imbalanced, quickly the storm calms down, with cherry wood, roasted, smoky, the barrel impact is obvious, the fruits like blackcurrant, dried currants, peaches, grapes and later grapefruit, help rounding the rum, as molasses, fresh with tea, minty, herbaceous, grassy, buttery vanilla and butterscotch.When the rum is well rested, it becomes slightly dirty and rubber joins. 8.9:The finish is long, dry&tannic, as the balanced notes from palate linger on for a long time.

Aromatisch wirklich sehr rund und intensive Tannine vom Eichenfass im schier ewig andauernden Abgang. Die Cassis note gefällt mir sehr! Schönes Ding! Už čiśla předesílali něco jedinečného. A realita to ještě velmi předčila. Intenzivní komplexní vůně plná ovoce, dřeva, koření a máty s náznakem techniky. Chuť olejovitá, s nástupem techniky, máty a čaje, ustupuje dřevu a ovoci. Máta zůstává. A ten závěr.. wow!

Bold, dark and fruity nose with red and tropical fruits in a tropical aged wood bed with mint and spice. On the palate, redcurrant is clearly in the foreground of the fruit ... with mint and wood. But there are also a few other fruits that resonate. I don't like TDL, but this is really tasty. Good mouthfeel and cleanly integrated alcohol. Very good representative of my non-favorite profile.

A real plank! Compared to other TDLs, the mint is not so superficial and direct, but is excellently integrated into a complex depth with a good portion of tannins and wood. This is another TDL that is more on the bitter side.

Super Abfüllung für RumX! Zwar etwas teuer, aber die Qualität stimmt. Viel Frucht und Holz, schön intensiv in toller Balance. Ein wenig bitter im Finish, mit Tee und Holz, ansonsten stimmt aber alles :)

Ein sehr schmackhafter TDL mit starker Frucht und frischer Würze. Sehr lecker ! In der Nase machen sich intensive Fruchtnoten breit. Schwarze Johannisbeeren, Kirsche, Passionsfrucht und Himbeeren werden von einer schönen Holzigkeit begleitet. Leder, Muskatnuss, Minze und Kräuter bringen eine tolle Würzigkeit mit. Am Gaumen wieder viele Früchte u.A. schwarze Johannisbeere und Birne. Dann kommen schnell Minze, Kräuter, Fassnoten, frisches Menthol und Holz. Eine interessante Wurzelnote leitet über zu Kirschbaumholz, Tee und Kaffee. Der lange und aromatische Abgang bietet ähnliche Noten wie der Gaumen und hat darüberhinaus Zitrusfrüchte, Pfeffer und Gewürznelke. Die Tannine sind präsent und klingen noch lange aus. Dieser Rum aus Trinidad gefällt mir echt gut und ist sicher auch für Armagnac-Fans ein Highlight. Vielen Dank an @Oliver für das Sample 😀

Vorweg: Ich werde nie Fan von TDLs werden. Hab die Flasche einzig zum Splitten bestellt und dann natürlich auch selbst probiert. Der Geruch lässt schon die klassischen TDL Charakterzüge erahnen, minzig mit einiger Würze und dunklen Früchten wie Kirsche, auf der Zunge dann die Kühle der Minze mit Fassaromen, leichter Schärfe und fruchtigen Anklängen. Der Abgang ist lang und mentholig, genau was mich beim TDL leider nicht so anmacht - aber im gesamten sehr lecker, sehr komplex und handwerklich ganz herausragend gemacht! Ich folge daher einfach in der Bewertung dem Votum der Community um ihn nicht runter zu ziehen.

Das Zusammenspiel der frischen mentholigen, im Gegensatz zu den würzig, bitteren und holzigen Aromen ist nahezu perfekt.. Im Abgang setzt sich mit fortlaufender Dauer die Mentolnote durch. Die Nase gefällt mir richtig gut. Sehr intensiv und fruchtbetont. Im direkten Vergleich mit dem Rasta Morris kommt die Rumx-Abfüllung fruchtiger daher und der RM bringt dazu noch ne ordentliche Portion Klebstoff und Lack mit. Am Gaumen richtig intensiv mit Minze, Gewürzen, viel Frucht, leicht medizinisch. Richtig gute Abfüllung, auch wenn mir die 2003er Releases teilweise mehr zusagen.

At last I can also enjoy 22222. Bloody great stuff. Wood, mint and red berries and fruit (many write redcurrant.....). The nose is already great - the taste is really on top, with the same aromas only much more intense. Nice and oily too. Could be my new TDL benchmark.

Die Nase zuerst fruchtig, mit Johannisbeeren, vielleicht etwas Kirsche. Von Anfang an Mentol deutlich dabei. Nach einer Weile übernehmen würzige und trockene Noten, mit Schwarztee, Holz. Sogar leicht dreckige Noten schwingen mit. Diese Noten bleiben dann auch am Gaumen im Vordergrund. Im Abgang wieder viel Mentol, Holz, Gewürze und im Hintergrund leichte Beerennoten. Gefällt w.

Was für ein Brett! Ein T.D.L par excellence! Er ist so intensiv, dass er regelrecht aus dem Glas zu springen scheint. Im Mund setzt er sogar noch einen drauf: Volle Breitseite an Johannisbeeren, Minze und Menthol, konzentriert und intensiv!

RX2222 verkostet gegen RX13862 und RX15322. Der RX22222 hat eine wundervolle Nase mit gelben Früchten, Backgewürzen und Falernum. Am Gaumen dann im Antritt weiterhin zunächst auf der sehr fruchtigen Seite, dann kommen immer mehr Tannine und Menthol durch. Alles sehr rund, harmonisch und elegant. Im Abgang dann recht bitter mit Tanninen und Gewürzen. Wirklich eine ganz tolle Abfüllung! Der Nobilis ist im Vergleich in der Nase weniger fruchtig und etwas verschlossener. Auch am Gaumen weniger Früchte, dafür mehr auf der holzigen Seite, mit viel Gewürze und Tannine. Im Abgang kommt neben den Gewürzen leicht etwas Pappe durch. Ebenfalls ein wirklich toller 2001er! Der Rasta Morris ist in der Nase der medizinischste 2001er mit dem meisten Menthol. Weniger Früchte als der Swell. Am Gaumen dann der bitterste der drei, was aber nicht stört, da die Bitterkeit eingebettet ist in eine schöne Fruchtigkeit mit Falernumgewürzen. Schöner Abgang mit Menthol, wo ich beim Nobilis Pappe finde, finde ich hier edles Holz. Der Rasta Morris ist und bleibt einfach ein absolutes Brett. Swell und Rasta Morris sind für mich heute auf Augenhöhe, wobei der Swell noch etwas fruchtiger ist als der Rasta Morris, der dafür mehr edles Holz hat. Aber auch der Nobilis ist eine tolle Abfüllung, wenngleich er für mich nicht ganz an die anderen beiden heranreicht.

Na tohle T.D.L jsem se moc těšil, protože kolem něj kokují samé superlativy. V kostce, mohu je jen potvrdit. Tmavá barva dává hned vědět, že v něm bude lecos vylohouváno. Ve vůni dominuje máta, dřevitost a černý rybíz. V chuti se k tomu přidává drsnost dlouho vylouhovaného černého čaje. Naopak necítím žádnou mineralitu, která mi občas u T.D.L vadí.

A fantastic 2001 T.D.L. The nose is delightfully fruity, fresh, and woody with a good sharpness. The taste matches the nose. The minty sharpness is clearly present, but thankfully, not too prominent for me. The finish is distinctly fruity and pleasantly long. A top-notch rum!

Swell TDL 2001 – RumX Nez : Explosion aromatique dès l’ouverture. Les notes mentholées s’imposent d’emblée, fraîches et vibrantes, soutenues par un boisé noble et des accents de fruits rouges mûrs. L’ensemble respire la complexité et la profondeur, avec une subtile touche résineuse et épicée en arrière-plan. Bouche : L’alcool, parfaitement maîtrisé, soutient une trame riche où le chêne toasté se fond dans des nuances de fruits rouges confits, de menthol et de tabac blond. La texture est ample, la progression harmonieuse, entre fraîcheur et puissance maîtrisée. Finale : Longue, persistante et nuancée. Elle déroule lentement ses strates aromatiques — bois précieux, menthol, fruits compotés et une pointe balsamique — laissant une empreinte profonde et élégante. Conclusion : Un TDL d’une grande classe. Brut et sincère, il conjugue intensité, fraîcheur et équilibre avec une expressivité rare. Un rhum de caractère, à la fois racé et enveloppant.

Very fresh, very fruity, very green nose... mint, citruses, yellow fruits, peach green ice tea, light vanilla, hints of green apple, kiwi, gooseberry, younger wood... but when I give it a good rest it becomes richer in red fruits. The taste is still very fresh and so much stronger in mint even menthol, wood and even herbals, the fruit from the nose is quite gone, but spices appear and bittery medicinal notes. The taste is quite sharp and stingy, but not alcoholic. And the mint lingers and lingers... I would guess 2003 but upon learning that it is 2001 I am bit dissapointed in the missing "dirty, rubbery" notes..... no, no, just kidding. This is some seriously good TDL.

I'm Oliver, and RumX began in 2018 as a small passion project in Stuttgart, back then under the name Rum Tasting Notes.
What began as my digital tasting diary is now the world's most comprehensive platform for rum fans, today carried by a small team with Jakob, Lukas and Katharina, with Robert supporting us as a freelancer. We combine the collective intelligence of our community with an integrated marketplace, so you can choose with confidence, without paperwork, detours, or expert jargon.
We selected and bottled this rum together with our community: one of 7 RumX co-bottlings since 2020.
