Don Q Gold
Reach for this if you want a light, no-fuss mixer rather than something to study. It's a mild Puerto Rican column-still gold, five years old at 40%: vanilla, a little citrus and yellow fruit, some soft oak. Most tasters call it fruity but thin, and a touch alcoholic on the finish. Pleasant in a daiquiri, forgettable neat.
The community says- Vanilla and citrus
- Thin body

How does Don Q Gold taste?
Aggregated from 19 community reviews.
Light, fruity gold rum best for mixing Most find it fruity but flat — vanilla, plum and citrus over light wood, with a slightly hot finish. Good everyday mixing value; not a rum you'll remember neat.

06.12.2024 The liquid History of Puerto Rico Tasting First of all, many thanks to Artur for the extreme effort and for sharing such old rums at all. Apart from a few exceptions, the rums themselves weren't really that great, BUT I still really enjoyed it, as you don't get to taste rums like this any more as a normal mortal and I find all the background knowledge that Artur shared incredibly interesting. I really take my hat off to him. Big respect!

Tasting of Artur's Puerto Rico rums. Little aroma on the nose, yellow fruit, wood and vanilla. The palate is aromatic and fruity, with plums and mirabelle plums. Sweetness follows, with vanilla and well-integrated wood. The finish is short, with wood and plum remaining. The best Don Q of the series, even if the nose is too discreet.

6,2:On the nose, the first impression we get is fruity with tropical, yellow fruits, an apple and citrus. We have some wood notes as caramel, spicy vanilla and sweet honey. 6,4:On the palate, the attack is pleasant and dry with wood notes like vanilla, some like mirabelle plum, citrus and it comes out a bit sweet. 6,5:The finish is medium long with woody notes, a bit tannic and fruits as citrus and plum...

The liquid History of Puerto Rico - vielen Dank an Artur für die Teilung!

Etwas würziger, ansonsten alles wie gehabt.

Puerto Rico Set Nr. 12: On the nose this DonQ comes with similar notes versus the older expressions but adds more complexity. There are some roasted nuts and a hint of tropical fruits mingling with vanilla and caramel. Pretty good. The palate is more wood forwards. Baking spices and some dried fruits (Apples?) add complexity here. Cheers to Artur for curating this set!

Spannend!

23.02.25 The liquid History of Puerto Rico Tasting Danke an Artur für die tolle Gelegenheit und Mühe. In der Nase leicht fruchtig, etwas Vanille. Im Mund mild, etwas Würze, leicht sauer/Zitrusfrüchte? Abgang mittellang
Review by crazyforgoodbooze

The latest iteration of Don Q Gold, Better than before, but still, this is standard profile that you not miss after it disappeard quick. Little to alcoholic in the End. Daquiri: fresh and vibrant, on the border of being too bitter 3/5
