William Hinton 6 Years
Several tasters call this the "most easy sipper aus Madeira" — a gentle way into the Portuguese cane-juice style. Expect dried fruit, raisin, brown sugar and soft wood spice, with clear port and sherry cask influence. The knock is consistent: at 40% it reads a touch watered-down and the finish runs short, so the lovely nose doesn't fully carry through on the palate.

Bought because something in the smell attracted me like catnip to my cat. Taste at the beginning, a bit woodier than expected, but then...the finish is not as short for me as often described here and then, when I thought that was it, the component in the smell that attracted me so much came, only now intense as a taste, at the base of the tongue, in the breath... Unfortunately, I can't describe this component, I can't make a comparison. I don't think everyone will react as euphorically as I did, but anyone who notices this positive but unknown note when smelling it should also try it.

Nicht mein Fall. Das Finish überdeckt alles und ist nicht besonders gut gelungen. Auch sehr eindimensional. Zu alkoholisch trotz nur 40%. Kurzer Abgang.

Overall an OK everyday rum that I expected to be more complex because of all the different casks used. This William Hinton Agricole produced by the Engenho Novo Distillery in Madeira is a blend aged for a minimum of six years in ex-Port, ex-Madeira, ex-Sherry, ex-Bourbon and ex-Brandy casks.

unfortunately very short finish and too watered down, but the basic profile is quite exciting

Not quite my cup of tea and clearly too light, but overall very balanced with predominantly nutty aromas at first. There is also the influence of the different casks. Port wine and sherry at the finish are quite strong. The base is right but that's about it.

Schöne Komplexität, etwas rauchig

Faint nose with light fruit and floral tones. Unfortunately only a short finish, also very lightly fruity and floral. Very light rum. PLV doesn't quite fit for me.
Review by TheRhumhoe
A pleasant permanent range rum for discovering the Portuguese style. The nose is fresh and pleasant, carried by floral notes, peach and raisin. The influence of port makes itself felt, as do woodiness, sweet spices, brown sugar and chocolate. The profile is smooth and varied. However, things get more complicated on the palate. The taste is a little too diluted and carried away by the cask (notably port and sherry). The raisin, gourmet woodiness, spiciness, chocolate and caramel make for a very smooth profile that's a little wearying in the long run. The alcohol is not badly integrated, but it is very present on the influences of the various aging casks. The finish is short and develops few aromas. A few herbaceous notes play spoilsport with this rum's spicy, roasted and dry profile. A version with a higher alcohol content would be worth testing to see whether the problem is structural or inherent in the dilution.
