Freshly opened and tasted both neat and as a CubaLibre. Personally, I don't find it one hundred percent convincing neat, as it's a little too aggressive on the palate. Perhaps it should have breathed longer. But it delivers all the better in CubaLibre. I'll probably have to give it more time again.

This Great House doesn't convince me at all. The nose is still the best thing for me. Beautiful esters, lots of fruit and subtle sweetness are perceptible here. On the palate, however, it loses me: initially a strong sweetness, then it immediately changes to a spicy woody side, fruit and esters are hardly recognizable...only the alcohol is quite well integrated. Funk has been completely lost here. The finish is dominated by spice... Clearly the weakest Great House bottling for me

So, there it is. A little earlier and also much more available and in larger quantities. This range is clearly going downhill - as is the rum itself. While I find the combination of HGML and LFCH quite cool and interesting (I really liked the HGML in 2022), I find the maturity a little lacking here. Without knowing the blend and the age exactly, I would say that it could have stayed in the cask a little longer - especially the low ester part. I certainly won't be getting one this year.

#4902 Whisky Live in Paris 27.09.2024-30.09.2024. Another great event meeting a lot of RumX new and old friends. This year three weren't as many new releases as in 2023, but I still had a great time. Nose Fresh, medium intense, light wood, fruity, light mint, light pineapple, light earthy, light orange, faint chocolate. Palate Round, balanced, light wood, fruits, light coconut, faint pineapple, faint mint, faint earthy, faint herbal, sweet. Finish Medium long, round, balanced, sweet, fruits, light orange, faint chocolate, light caramel, light wood. This has been turned into a mainstream release and they are close to each other. Would have loved a higher ABV and more "umph" in the profile.

I quite like the nose with lots of fruity notes, especially pineapple and mango. I also perceive floral/flowery aromas and some vanilla. Unfortunately, it completely fails on the palate. Very unbalanced, pungent and peppery. One of the weaker GH releases for me.

Not massively impressive overall but the typical hampden notes are still there. On the nose typical hampden, tropical fruits, banana, pineapple and funk. Fruity on the palate but its a bit out of whack and rough. Punchy.

8,6:On the nose, the first impression we get are estery overripe tropical fruits like pineapple, banana with roasted, spicy wood notes like caramel, vanilla, as the molasses is vegetal and unavoidable nail polish. On aeration, we get some nice nutty pastry with mango and cherry, grass notes, nicely round. 8,6:On the palate, the attack is fruity and woody with overripe tropical fruits, dried ones with figs, the wood is roasted, dry, spicy with burnt sugar, caramel, vanilla, salty.The molasses is vegetal with an olive, hay, artichoke. Very creamy vanilla with strawberries, citrus balances vegetal notes very nicely, as some licorice also pops up. 8,5:The finish is long, dry, fruity with overripe tropical fruits, the wood is roasted, creamy, spicy, the molasses vegetal.Some earthiness crawls in with peat...In the end very balanced. Didn't expect much... therefore not disappointed. On the whole a Hampden as you know it... Fruity, estery and funky ... for me completely dull and nothing that would justify the price. The rum has clear off-notes, tastes very young and bitchy with a disturbing (Virgin Oak?) influence. Quite ok in Mai Tai but doesn't win me over here either.

By and large as expected. Fits seamlessly into the range, no outlier up or down. I find it better than the 2023 and worse than the 2021. A whole bottle is only worth it for the collection.

Also muss sagen der Great House 2025 war doch etwas besser. Hoer haben wir allerdings aucj den typischen Hampden Funk. Ester und tropische Früchte, vor allem Banane und Ananas. Etwas Vanille ist am Gaumen aber auch noch erkennbar.

This expression of Hampden has a much more muted nose than some of the other offerings. It has a solid mix of banana, caramel, oak, and some funk. It does leave me with a heavy toasted oak barrel after taste.

Compared to GH21, I find this one a bit more estery, you could say sweeter. Maybe it reminds me of Younger. Very good for me. A lot of esters, molasses, pineapple. Molasses on the finish, caramel, overall it sounds like something from Guyana. Quite different from GH21, but I'd rate it the same. Both are good rums. Edit: this is the first time I'm testing this one and I'm not changing anything on the rating. It's a good vintage

Classic Hampden notes on the nose with grilled pineapple and some wood. Fruit acids are a bit too intense for my liking. Funky on the palate, again with some fruit acid. Feels a bit young and harsher in comparison to the previous editions.

Un Hampden dans la pure tradition et sans fioriture. Le nez est orienté sur le funk des esters, de la colle et du vernis à ongles, mais aussi sur des notes fermentées qui partent vers les fruits tropicaux (ananas, banane et mangue notamment). Une trame de fond sur la vanille et des accents plus rôtis se fait sentir et ajoute un peu de cachet à ce nez des plus classiques mais bien exécuté. Le rhum est assez direct, vif mais reste gourmand en bouche. La ferveur se fait également sentir avec les fruits tropicaux, les esters, mais aussi le beurre et le sucre brulé qui amènent une direction plus pâtissière au profil. Si la vanille est toujours présente, le ton devient plus sec en bouche, notamment en raison de la montée du boisé et du piment au palais. L’alcool est bien intégré. La finale est de bonne facture et laisse toujours cette trame boisée et vanillée en suspens, mais avec un peu de cuir en supplément. Orange, ananas, banane et esters s’ajoutent au bouquet final pour apporter rondeur, équilibre et funk. Un Hampden simple et efficace, facile d’approche mais qui manque peut-être un peu de profondeur par rapport aux autres cuvées Great House.

I must honestly say that it is one of the most unspectacular Hampdens. The smell is ok, like tropical fruits with slight hints of funk and ester. The taste is very weak and quite sweet. The finish is extremely short, a pity...

This 2024 is a well-crafted Great House, with a sweetness I don't remember from previous versions. A lovely vanilla note is present throughout the tasting. On the nose, esters, pineapple, fermented, varnish. No doubt about the provenance. And a lovely sweetness brought on by the vanilla. Dry and funky on the palate. Pineapple, wood, esters galore. Very cool. Time brings a less exuberant, wiser side to this rum. A very fine vintage.

Has everything I expect from a Hampden. The esters are there, complexity is also present, toasty and spice-laced oak alternates with fruity flavors and everything is woven into a round thing. However, there is also a subtle spiciness and a little too much young wood, which bothers me a little. This is really good rum, but it also seems a little uninspired.

And the Journey continous...part 5! Simply a delicious Hampden, without any real complexity or unusual characteristics. Beautifully fruity on the nose and also simply delicious in the mouth. Easy to drink and doesn't need to breathe for long. Alcohol is well integrated. Super sipper for Hampden newcomers. You don't need a bottle, but of course I did because of the series...

Every year I think about whether I should still take part in the circus surrounding Hampden's Great House and every year I end up buying it. This year's edition is still convincing on the nose, although the profile is starting to bore me. But the fun stops on the palate with the 24. Woody, wild, dysharmonic and almost completely devoid of fun. The alcohol could also be a little better integrated. We won't be friends on the finish either. I'll try it as a mixer, but it's not really fun on its own.

A find from my samplebottle vault. This rum did sit in the glass for a good 20 minutes before the review. On the nose: Woody notes, fruits and glue notes dominate the nose. Tropical fruits like pineapple, banana and papaya are there with more fermented note in them. Little bit of vanilla notes. Taste: Esters, woody notes. Tropical fruits like banana. Vanilla notes. Mouthfeel changes to little bit of buttery. Little bit of alcoholic. A blend/mixture where no strong notes pop up. Finish:Woody notes, fruits and little bit of leather notes pop up at first. Light esters. Light coffee notes. This tasted like fermented, estery mix without any strong, clear notes . The finish did same some points for me by offering some complexity and nice roundness. Different than the other Great Houses(2020,2021 and 2022) that i have tasted, but this was not on the level of those releases.

Tasted at the Limoges Spirits Festival 2025. 👃 Very classic Hampden blend, gentle enough to introduce the distillery, although I always suggest the 1st overproof 60°. Funk, overripe tropical fruit, varnish, glue. Some vanilla molasses and salty woodiness if not the other way around. 😋 Not too many surprises here, funk, ester, tropical fruit, overripe, dried fruit, light molasses, a little brine, caramelized woodiness, borderline buttery. ⛳ We find the same markers on the nose and palate. 💡 For the moment, my preference is for the great house 2020. I'll make a note to myself to do the full line-up one day.

Im Vergleich zum Great House 2021 wirkt dieser Rum nicht so ausgewogen. An der Nase sehr fruchtig, Tabak, holzig, Melasse, röstig. Im Mund dann stark bitter, würzig, alkoholisch, röstig, modrig. Leider wirkt das zu einseitig.

Gefällt mir ganz gut. Das ist jetzt keine Ester-Bombe, aber das muss ja auch nicht immer sein. Wenn man nach Low-Ester sucht, ist dieser durchaus empfehlenswert. Ohne Wasser fast gar keine Ester, aber mit Wasser wandelt er sich richtig,und die Ester kommen hinzu, interessant!

Heieiei, is this the current quality of Hampden? While the nose still smells quite classically of Hampden, but somehow also comes across as unrounded and dazzled, the palate in particular disappoints me. Inharmonious, a strange alternation between sweetness and wood, an overall unrounded picture and an alcoholic spiciness make this bottling the worst of the series for me. Pure, there are 500 better bottlings from Hampden on the market. I hope that it will make up some ground in the drink and become stronger again next year... Update: I actually quite like it in Cuba (Jamaica?) Libre. However, it's also a pretty expensive mixer for the end result

Neat Hampden Ester nose with fermented fruits. I love this scent. A gentle spiciness on the palate. The ester is dominant here too. Really balanced after a little oxygen. A strong drop. I absolutely have to taste it against its brothers.

New Great house 2024 ! Nose: Bright & slightly. Lot of fruits. Mango, pineapple, bananas, pears, beaking apples, melon. Esters, polish, some glue, wax. Quite well & typical. Taste: Mmmm, sooo buttery. Again, lot of fruits: mango, bananas, pineapples, pears, solvents, Ester, polish. Little bit of sour orange juice. It's really tasty. Aftertaste: sweet, chemical, antiseptic, woody, dry finish... also not bad. So, it's very tasty & aroma rum. I like this style.

I love dried apricots and this GH edition has a strong smell and taste of dried aprictos so clearly i enjoyed it very much. It’s probably more delicate, less bold than the 2020 and 2021 (didn’t had the chance to try the 2019) but it’s absolutely elegant and smooth (abv is never a problem). It’s elegant and it surprise with its richness. Really long.

Nose: Varnish, olive brine, shoe polish, ripe banana, hint of pineapple, rubber, seaweed Mouth: An explosion of ripe banana, mango, pineapple, black peppercorn, chilli, rubber, leather Finish: Quite hot at the beginning and flavours slowly decay for a very lengthy finish I bought this a year ago along the other Great Houses from 2020-2024. Upon first tastings, this was probably my favourite of the series and it's still up there for me. But my taste now seems to lean more towards the 2020 and 2022 as the Greats of Great House. Despite this, it's complex, well balanced, and very flavour heavy. It's a truly great blend and I'll always recommend this one.

The brother is a little sharp. When you open the bottle, it still exudes a really nice note of lime and not overly present esther notes. But the taste is then really bitchy. Sharp on the palate and nothing else really new. I actually had it in mind as my "Christmas Eve bottle". I'd better take another look

The nose is magnificent. There's an excellent line of ester and ripe tropical fruit. On the palate, tropical fruit, banana and passion fruit lead the way, followed by long-lasting pineapple notes. The funky character of hampden is at its greediest. It's very impactful, yet extremely well balanced. For me, the best great house I've ever tasted.

This one really evolves. Starts out with an incredibly fruity nose, but the flavor introduces some woody and roasty notes. These only intensify in the aftertaste where it becomes very strong. A great evolving one!
