Habitation du Simon A1710 La Perle Brute 2018
The surprise here is how well the alcohol hides at 64%. It's a pot-still white agricole from Martinique, all fresh sugarcane, lime and floral notes on the nose, with ripe pear softening things out. On the palate it turns drier and more bitter — citrus peel, pepper, a fruit-schnapps edge. A couple of tasters even compared the nose to Madeira. Clean and pretty, if not deeply complex.

Aggregated from 19 community reviews.
Fragrant, high-proof white agricole, easy for 64% Most find it elegant and surprisingly easy for the strength — fragrant sugarcane and lime up front, peppery citrus-peel bitterness behind. The common gripe: it lacks complexity.

A most elegant rum, very pleasant and refined on the palate. The palate is marked by the bitterness of the citrus fruit, but the ripe pear and the vegetal aspect of the rose soften the whole a little. This rum may lack complexity, but you can feel all the work that has gone into it, and it's very pleasant.

The nose takes us straight to the tropics, with its intense perfume. Sweet cane and ripe fruit (citrus - limes), very greedy, intense and floral. On the palate, the rum coats the palate well, warm and pleasant. Then pepper makes its appearance. The alcohol is perfectly integrated for >60%. Slightly iodized, bitter on the citrus peel, with good length. Conclusion: a gourmet rum sublimated by a breath of freshness. Sometimes reminiscent of a Clairin. This vintage is a success, but lacks complexity.

Rhum équilibré et porté par une canne à sucre. Le brûlant et l’alcool sont bien présents, étouffants le végétal et les notes fruités d’agrumes. Note épicée sur le poivre.

C’est bon. Ça passe super bien. On ne sent pas les 60*

A very intense fruity-floral nose. Honeydew melon and lychee, lightly fermented. The sweetness of freshly pressed sugar cane. The 60%+ hit the palate quite hard, of course. At first it comes across like a grappa or a fruit brandy. Much more tart than the nose. Some bitterness from tangerine peel. Citrus. Both also remain in the finish. I like the smell (very close to Madeira) better than the taste.

Un nez fruité et floral. La bouche est un peu en retrait.

A rum with character and a well-structured, straightforward aromatic palette. Very drinkable!
