From Simon's distillery, aged 11 years, it leans spicy and woody: cinnamon, pepper, vanilla, with grape and apple notes that drift toward calvados or white wine. A metallic edge shows up too. Ein deutscher Rum von einem UA, das ist mal was Neues! Und wer mir folgt, weiß: Neues mag ich! Simon‘s Feinbrennerei ist schon länger ein Begriff, aber bisher haben mich die Abfüllungen eher kalt gelassen. 8 Jahre in Ex-Pinot-Noir Spessart-Eiche, 3 Jahre Ex-Cream-Sherry und nochmal 3 Monate TDL-Finish, dazu gesegelte Melasse von Tres Hombres, irgendwie schon eine Ansage. Normal bin ich kein Fan von zu vielen Fässern und Finishes, aber der hier gefällt mir ganz gut. Spessart-Eiche und TDL haben dem Rum Würze und Tiefe verlieren, eine leichte Traubigkeit und generell Frucht liegen dezent auf der Zunge (vor allem im Abgang) und irgendwie ist da dann auch eine (Sherry-)Süße. Alles gut eingebunden und rund, ohne aufdringlich zu sein. Schöne, runde und damit für mich gelungene Abfüllung, props gehen an die Berliner Jungs. Was könnte passender sein, als ein deutscher Rum fürs deutsche Rum-Fest!

An der Nase sehr fruchtig, bisschen Holz und Gewürze. Am Gaumen paaren sich dann mehr Noten dazu wie Wein, Calvados und eine metallische Note die aber nicht störend wirkt. Ganz im Gegenteil, mir gefällt es.

13. GRF - Nachtasting Das RumDepot - Dirk - macht was ganz neues. Er füllt tatsächlich mal einen deutschen Rum ab. Das finde ich richtig gut. Mal schauen, was der so kann… Nase: zunächst würzig-fruchtig-leicht kirschholzig. Angenehmr Anklang ohne Beißen oder Stechen. Als erstes finden Vanille und süß-säuerliche Früchte ihren Weg. Grüner Apfel, Maracuja, dazu Zitrus, nicht ganz Orange, nicht ganz Zitrone, vielleicht Zitrusmarmelade. Dahinter etwas künstlich wirkendes Kirschjoghurt-Aroma. Die Würze rieche ich in Richtung Muskat und leicht scharfem Ingwer mit Zimt. Hinten heraus eine Spur Kamillentee. Durchaus nicht schlecht, etwas zu künstlich. 7,9 Gaumen: deutlich würziger als die Nase aber dennoch fruchtig. Erster Eindruck geht Richtung Calvados oder Weiswein mit Limette. Leicht sauer-salzig, fast metallisch. Dann Vanille mit mildem Kümmel und entschärftem Ingwer, gefolgt von Apfel und Traube. Hinten wieder dieses künstliche Kirschjoghurt-Aroma, das auch in der Nase zu finden war. Insgesamt etwas flach und kurz im Abgang, aber dennoch kein schlechter Rum. 7,7

In der Nase anfangs wenig, bissel Alc, dahinter ganz versteckt rummige Holzwürze, wird später deutlicher, Alc verfliegt; Auf der Zunge direkt kräftiger und würziger Antritt, ganz leicht süß, viel zu entdecken, kann ich nicht beschreiben, würde es den verschiedenen Fässern zuschreiben, wenig aber nicht unangenehm scharf, eher kurzer Abgang / Ergänzung: wenn er länger im Glas ist, wird er deutlich besser, also gerne etwas Atmen lassen

Der Rumclub wagt sich mit der neuen Edition 48 zum German Rumfestival erstmals in heimische Gefilde und gibt dem häufig mild belächeltem deutschen Rum mit diesem Einzelfass von der Feinbrennerei Simons eine Chance aufs Rampenlicht. In der Nase zunächst sehr zurückhaltend ist der erste Schluck an Gaumen gleich sehr gefällig. gut trinkbar was hier vor allem fehlt ist Länge, im Finish bleibt bei mir nicht so viel hängen. Die letzten kleinen Schlücke meines abgefüllten Samples sind dann überwiegend würzig.

I've known Simon distills since the Village'23 in Nuremberg and he always makes some really cool stuff. The fact that RumClub is now making a bottling from him was new to me. You can drink it, but I've honestly had better stuff from him in my glass.

Von Simon habe ich schon einiges probieren und auch vor Ort die Destillation begleiten dürfen. Toller Typ, tolles Destille und fast schon ein echtes Single Estate….fast. Selbst das Holz seiner Fässer kommt teilweise aus seinem Wald. Das ist jetzt die erste Abfüllung, die mich wirklich enttäuscht. Hier fehlt es an Charakter und Tiefe. Zwar angebehm zu trinken, etwas fruchtig, etwas Holz und auch der Alkohol ist gut eingebunden, aber mehr ist nicht drinnen. Seine eigenen Abfüllungen sind deutlich besser.

This is a weirdo. It passes on falling in The Obstler Trap but a weird metallic calvados is not really what I want to substitute my rum evening with. I don't mind this but I am not a fan of this type of distillate
