Foursquare S.B.S Barbados 2013
Chocolate, spice and a wave of candied-fruit sweetness from the port finish sit on top of a recognisable Foursquare base. Vanilla, coconut and a little oak round it out, with the 52% ABV keeping things drinkable rather than hot. A couple of tasters loved how the finish is folded in; others felt the sweetness flattens it and wished for more depth on the short finish.

Typical Foursquare aroma, subtly enriched by the finish. Flavour-wise, it's also an easily recognisable FS and a very approachable piece thanks to the smaller abv and probably the port finish. An honest rum and thanks to the 52% it might even be more approachable than the 60%+ version.

Gewürzlastiges Profil aus Barbados mit etwas Holz, Schokolade, Piment und herb-röstigen Noten, dazu typische Noten vom Finish in Ex-Süsswein-Fässern: Trockene Früchte, geröstete Nüsse, schwere Süsse. Interessanterweise nehme ich dazu leicht tabakartige, erdige Noten war, die mich initial sogar an ein weiteres Finish denken liessen - die Noten sind zwar eher periphär vorhanden, ich habe sie aber dennoch immer mit im Spektrum. Ein interessantes, gelungenes Release, dem aber die finale Aussagekraft fehlt - das Zusammenspiel aus der sehr würzigen Grundaromatik und dem Süssweinfass geht für mich nicht restlos auf, was aber sicher auch durch meine individuellen Vorlieben zu begründen ist.
