Nose is dark and very wood and herbs forwards. Very interesting but also demanding. Same focus on the palate. However, nicely embedded in a vanilla/honey-like sweetness paying tribute to the long tropical aging.

Do you know when you have high expectations, a rum actually want to find good, you also recognize the quality, but the spark just does not want to jump over? So it goes to me with this Port Mourant.The very mature, dark nose does nothing wrong: anise, freshly politicized old wood, licorice, cocoa, some burnt sugar just a little and very ripe fruit.The mouth is already less beautiful. Anise, raisins and menthol on the plus side but in addition a sharp unpleasant acidity that remains until the finish. Overall, the mouth is unbalanced and sharp.I do not know if it was my form of the day, the oxidation or actually the rum, but we both we are today unfortunately no mud.Did not drink the glass empty, despite the very nice nose 🤷♂️.

26.10.2025 Part 1 Today we have an El Dorado Rare Cask online tasting and I've been looking forward to it. I will keep the score and just enjoy the rums and I have all of them on my shelves as well. ---------------- The nose has better balance than the 1999 version of this great rum. All in all a very well balanced edition well worth the price tag.

Today, Port Mourants has been around for what feels like an eternity. El Dorado 1997: Delicious Port Mourant with the typical aroma profile. Very pleasing, alcohol perfectly integrated, very drinkable. It lacks a little complexity. 85 pts. El Dorado 1999: A little more closed than its brother from 1997, the alcohol is not as well integrated. I had hoped for more here. 80 pts. Tamosi Karaya 1998: Great stuff! With the typical Port Mourant aromas that take root in its complexity and expand aroma-wise. The mouthfeel is full-bodied and pleasant, the alcohol is excellently integrated. 90pts.

Edit: Yesterday again with DomM in the glass and a Ramón Allones 90 ANIVERSARIO SR. HENRY Edición Regional Exclusivo Alemania 2020 to go with it. Had to adjust upwards. Kick-off RumX Advent calendar 2023. What a start. Thanks to the organization team. Takes a while in the glass, but once it has developed... Delicious You really have to say that all these El Dorado bottlings are very good, there isn't really a bad one.

Tolle Nase mit lieblichen Zügen, am Gaumen wird es dagegen sehr intensiv - herb-bittere Würzigkeit, altes Holz, dezente Raucharomen…Port Mourant extrem, komplex dank minimer Restsüsse, aus meiner Perspektive aber ohne die vollendet ausgewogene Komplexität, die die ganz grossen Demeraras auszeichnet.

Had thought at first that will again so a Port mourant which is too herbal and smoky for me but this one has a nice grape and passion fruit note in the background and rather the tannins of good black tea than of too much wood. Nice number! My favorite Port mourant will still not 😅🤷🏼♂️

Rumx Advent 30.11.23 Had something of a matured agricole for me blind. Very strong with spice, oak, tobacco. Something earthy, yet fresh. Expressively fruity on the nose. Woody depth paired with tropical maturity. Only the alcoholic spiciness in the mouth is off-putting. I guessed one of the Les Ephemeres series from Saint James. Edit: needs a lot of time in the glass, then the flavor profile unfolds more and more. The nose is excellent.

Another pearl from El Dorado. A round and complex nose that is hard to get away from and is the highlight. Intense licorice in the mouth, dark, tart, spicy, bitter and herbal (tea!). The fruit is rather weak and can be associated with dried fruit, which you have to like. Beautiful rum with a clear influence from the Wooden Stills.

Very tasty Port Mourant in my opinion. Comparatively little herbal and medicinal notes, but overall very harmonious and round. Nevertheless, nice PM profile, with neat and pleasant woodiness. Like many El Dorado Rares top quality for good money. I like it very much!

The nose is mainly woody and caramel. Solvents and pungent spices. It's greedy and appetizing. On the palate, lots of wood. Too much, surely. A bitterness heightened by orange zest. Woody, bitter finish.

The nose I find very good, but on the palate dominate a little too much wood, vinegar, leather, licorice. Unfortunately, the fruitiness of the normal PM97 is missing.

The Rare Collection has really excellent bottlings with now very good PLV.Nose: full-bodied, elegant and round. Spicy-fruity-caramel. Overall dark and malty with dried orange, dried black currant and sulfured raisins. Also vanilla, dark maple syrup, some licorice and soft licorice and cream toffee. The 20 years have produced a beguiling nose. 90Palate: intense, elegant and balanced. Spicy-woody without the wood being too strong. Toasty, salty and burnt at first, then anise, licorice and a hint of mint. Seems slightly bacony with umami and fat pecan. Fine orange peel still comes in the back. The 20 years also makes a very good impression on the palate. 89

RumX-Adventskalender 2023 "Prelude" (30.11.2023) Blind immerhin auf alten PM getippt, aber erst nach langer Zeit im Glas. Vorher hat sich der Rum chamäleonartig verändert und damit einer Zuordnung lange entzogen. Am Ende blieb aber doch das typische nass-schwere Holz. Wird mit zunehmender Verweildauer im Glas immer besser.

Compared to the El Dorado Rare Collection Port Mourant 1999, it is clearly ahead for me. For me, the 1997 is simply rounder, fuller, darker, more interesting. Unfortunately, the prices are now slowly rising ... as with the whole Rare Collection.

A great nose! Very nice rum however it is pretty intense PM. Lots of wood and fiery spices. Very dark, heavy and complex. Licorice, old leather and a small amount of fruit in the background. A long finish with burnt sugar. Very much full bodied!

A port mourant with a less pronounced bitter part than its 1999 brother but still retains all its oily and fatty part that distinguishes them! A great intensity and a very good fruity and citrus part that always tempts you to take another sip!

8,7:On the nose, citrus fruits like an orange and dried apricots are the first thing we notice, glue, roasted wood notes like caramel, dark chocolate, toffee and spices like anise. On aeration, the rum becomes vegetal with pencil shavings, herbaceous, some dried figs might pop out. 8,6:On the palate, the attack is fruity with an orange peel, passion fruit, raisins and red fruits, spicy with anise, vanilla, as the wood is roasted with caramel, leather.The molasses is dark with licorice, herbaceous and fresh with tea, balanced, some rubber is obvious after resting the rum, as dried apricots and currants. 8,5:The finish is long, dry and tannic, slightly smoky roasted wood notes are pairing variety of fruits, some of them are berries and pineapple...as molasses is darker with black tea and licorice..

Finally a decent rum. A very great nose consisting of wood, caramel and dark chocolate. Then wood and leather on the palate, this rum is roasty and spicy. Alcohol well integrated. Recommended purchase.

Franconian Rum Tasting Gang 19.04.2024 Tasted together with the El Dorado Diamond CBH and DMD. Actually only because it just presented itself, not comparable with the Diamonds. Herbs, wood, tobacco, nice sweetness. Another very tasty drop from the El Dorado Rare Cask series.

If the nose immediately whets the appetite for more and entices with beautiful fruit and spice, the rum needs some time on the palate to break down a little. Wood dominates. Then a lot of licorice comes through. Wood then dominates a little too much in the finish. The developing nose definitely earns at least two more points here.

A multi-faceted Port Mourant. The nose is initially driven by solvents and glue before becoming very fruity, driven by dried fruit, apricot, red fruit (cherries) and citrus. Spicy, roasted, woody and caramelized notes are also present. The latter return on the palate, with a bitterness carried by licorice, anise and leather. Fruit takes a back seat, the profile here being more spicy and dry than the nose would suggest. The fairly long finish brings notes of black tea that mingle with the spicy, bitter, caramelized profile. An intense, versatile rum.

I haven't often had the opportunity to taste colored PMs. In the end, I think it's good, but it's still very bitter, really woody. You have to like these profiles.

Strong and intense nose. Lots of wood, some solvent, and spices, more time with it the nose softens but it’s a brash and bold nose. With the first sip it’s a whirlwind of flavours, some mint, more wood and some raisin, too much bitterness potentially but it’s interesting. The finish is medium and fairly restrained compared to the mouth, ending with menthol and ash. Dryer than I was expecting with dark chocolate and black tea. It’s a solid rum, maybe too wood heavy and petrol like in the mouth to be exceptional and one of the lesser El Dorado rare collection rums I have tried to date.

On the nose, we find some beautiful glue that can displease some people but that I love! But not only that, of course, there are woody, tropical fruits and spices. The nose is rather conventional for a PM, but it's perfect for me, I'm constantly plunging into it with pleasure. In the mouth, it's intense and great. Much more complex than the nose. We have licorice, solvents, woody, red fruits, citrus, almond, vanilla ... The finish is long and beautiful on iodized wood. The conclusion is simple, it is a perfect expressive rum

#24DaysOfRum 2023 - Prelude Opens with old and musty aromas intertwined with a cooling sensation on the nose. It’s rough and dirty, with camphor, light petrol and resin. It does get more elegant with time, as red apples appear and smooth into sweetened, minty black tea. For such a concentrated profile, notably some convolution on the palate. Passionfruit and dried fruits take the wheel and steer into ‘old red wine direction’. The cask has done some heavy lifting and the entirety becomes very woody and dry. Spicy, sweet and nutty. You can taste the age. The finish is Valhalla for tea lovers. Black tea with cool anise and bittersweet dark chocolate influence.

Glue on which you want to smell your fill in the nose. Nice notes of orange and passion fruit paired with some leather and chocolate. Then in the finish a surprising but pleasant tea sweetness with some licorice.

1997 PM from the El Dorado Rare Collection series. They are all very good in terms of quality. Wood, black tea, herbal notes. Unfortunately, the fruitiness is somewhat lacking. But at least it has a slight sweetness.

Wow, sensationeller Rum! In der Nase erst einmal zurückhaltend, aber am Gaumen und auf der Zunge geht er richtig gut nach vorne! Holzige Fassnoten, leichte Vanillenoten und ein klasse Port Mourant Profil runden diese Abfüllung ab. Einer meiner ersten, daher fehlt mir der Vergleich - aber für den Auftakt echt gut!

For me, this one is way better than Enmore, not only in taste but also in the way it's done, little astringency, not overly woody and a better alcohol integration. It's close to the Versailles but probably better than that one too. Nose opens and I already have a whole lot of aromas coming together: dried fruits, wood, burnt sugar and, to my surprise, pine essence. It's a very expressive nose. On the mouth it's dried fruit, woody and herbal, again pine for me, one may have black tea. It's woody but not overwhelming, I have little bitterness from the wood. Alcohol integration is well done, doesn't burn at all. Final is long and rich.

I struggle with this, this has a lot of sharp herbal notes that disturb the rest of the bouquet. In the end it is too sharp to muddled. I really want to like it but fail to really elevate it over 80 points
