Odd thing about a 21-year-old cask-strength Trinidad rum: the wood stays quiet. Instead you get that classic TDL 2002 signature — cool mint and menthol, ripe peach, sour cherry, a whisper of black tea and vanilla. One taster caught "berries, tea, vanilla and mint" with a woody finish. Oily on the palate, and the 55.7% barely shows. Round, sweet-leaning, and very easy to drink.

Medicinal rum) Medicinal herbs, mint, molasses, bandages, walnuts, sherry. Lots more, but I'm at the tasting. The flavor is dense, supple, tart and fruity, with noble wood, closer to cognac in a good way. This rum is to my taste and I can safely recommend it. 91 solid!

Wahnsinnig tolles 2002 Vintage. Selten so eine intensive Sauerkirsch Note im Rum erlebt, gepaart mit dezenter frischer Krause-Minze, geriebenem gefrorenen Pfirsich und etwas Vanille, sowie Tannine wie von kräftigem Earl Grey Tee. Hammer!

TDL is immediately recognizable. First red fruits with mint on the nose. Tea. Alcohol not pungent even shortly after pouring. Then come hints of bicycle inner tube. Plus vanilla and spices (something like nutmeg, allspice and pepper) as well as wood. Then really nice and oily in the mouth. Sweetness at first. Then red fruits followed by spice (again nutmeg, allspice and pepper). Very slight bitterness at the end (dark chocolate, mint stems). And again and again mint. The 21 years are noticeable due to the rather light cask influence. Mostly in the finish. Great!

Again a very inviting nose with vanilla, caramel, yellow fruits and mint. Very round and accessible overall. This continues on the palate. The alcohol is perfectly balanced. Not the most complex T.D.L., but definitely delicious.

Auf den ersten Eindruck wirklich sehr rund und ausgewogen, tolle Balance. Alkohol auch sehr gut eingebunden. Wirklich ein süffiges Teil mit den typischen Markern eines TDL 2002. Im Abgang kommt die Minze/Krautigkeit durch. Mal sehen, wie er sich entwickelt.

Ein Rum bei dem ich mir noch nicht sicher bin… finde ich den lecker und besonders ausgewogen oder vielleicht etwas langweilig. Am Anfang fehlen noch Ecken und Kanten, mit der Zeit entdeckt man aber paar interessante Facetten. Alkohol perfekt eingebunden, was allerdings bei 55% leichter fällt. Den muss ich nochmals allein probieren.

Die Nase für mich dominant die Sauerkirschen mit einer Note schwarzem Tee. Recht angenehm. Im Geschmack ein recht schön minzig mit pfirsich. Wow ... Wirklich schöner Rum der sehr angenehm zu trinken ist.

A very pleasant, probably rare TDL with all the typical markers, but in my opinion none of them stand out, so the rum is finely balanced. However, I find this TDL lacks a bit of oomph overall, the originality of RdL No. 42 (RX15565), for example. For me, TWJ's bottling is a solid mid-range TDL in a bottle with another wonderful design. Update 2024-09-17: After tasting RX20026 yesterday, I just had to pour myself RX21416 again today for comparison and can now say that the 5 points more for the RX21416 are justified in my eyes. Although the rum doesn't offer quite as much warm fruit on the nose as RX20026, it has significantly more mint and menthol on the palate and therefore more typical TDL DNA - I like that.
