Epris Flensburg Rum Company Sea Shepherd (Buckelwal) 2011
Sip this Brazilian oddity neat and let it breathe — the nose is all fruit (banana, apricot, papaya, fig) with pipe tobacco and caramel, then the palate swings hard the other way into herbs, hay and tea. That Amburana finish brings cardamom and nutmeg, maybe a touch too much cardamom for some. A rare molasses-and-cane-juice blend that keeps you guessing.

8,3:On the nose, the opening impression is very pleasant with variety of fruits like banana, apricots, papaya, figs and citrus, in combination with roasted wood tones like nuts and caramel, a bit spicy, but full-bodied. On aeration, herbaceous and vegetal notes are more intense, swimming in maple, with tobacco, and surprisingly, a tarragon, a first time I noticed it in rums.A raspberry keeps in balance all the notes. 8,2:On the palate, the attack is fruity and vegetal, herbaceous with sugarcane notes, honeycomb is strong, then especially tarragon, some hay, later sesame, chamomile, as from fruits raspberry, apricots, banana and sour cherry.Spicy and nutty wood quickly intermingles with the first wave, bringing cardamom and nutmeg, a pinch of salt. 8:The finish is quite dry, less fruity, still vegetal and herbaceous, woody with nuts, coffee, spices and perhaps confectionery..

Won a sample set of the 4 new Sea Shepherd from Kirsch. THANK YOU 🙏. Here is the tropically matured molasses sugar cane juice rum from Brazil, with a finish in an Amburana wood barrel... Nose: caramel-fruity with a spicy note of pipe tobacco. Dried apricot and fig, plus banana and papaya. Scented wood with vanilla. Full-bodied and very pleasant. 8.2 Palate: Herbal and spicy with a fruity, woody sweetness. Cardamom with nutmeg and coriander and a light note of sour cherry and raspberry as well as chamomile, hay and sesame. The pipe tobacco comes through subtly at the back. A little too much cardamom, otherwise interesting. 7,6 Unusual but good blend of molasses and sugar cane juice and then Amburana wood.

Botttle Market Bremen Oktober 2024.
