Velier Caroni Heavy Rum Guyana Stock (Kirsch Whisky) HTR 1996
Near-universal love here, with one honest wrinkle: this is a rounder, cleaner Caroni than usual. Several tasters note the classic "car repair shop" tar and rubber take a back seat to wood, leather, dark chocolate and a grape-jam sweetness one reviewer even called grappa-like. A couple missed the dirty edge; one found a touch of sourness. At 62.4% the heat stays surprisingly tame.

Epic Velier Caroni Tasting 2023: Caroni at a dizzying level. A gigantically good barrel, which of course also led to an inspiringly good bottling. World class.
Review by TheRhumhoe
A true heavyweight champion among the great rums. The nose is absolutely splendid, traveling between empyreumatic notes (rubber, tar, roasted and smoky notes), sweet notes (caramel, toffee, brown sugar), dark notes of chocolate, cocoa, leather and spices (chili, pepper, vanilla). A hint of menthol or peppermint freshness, dried fruit and citrus add to this evolving, complex and balanced profile, an olfactory delight. On the palate, this is a rum of great class, with dirty notes of car garage sticking to the palate, reminiscent of sludge with its oily texture, followed by much rounder notes of caramel and toffee, aided by dark chocolate, leather, roasted hazelnuts, smoky oak and spices. A touch of salt minerality rounds out the profile, and is absolutely magnificent. Citrus and dried fruit give a peachier tone and broaden the aromatic spectrum of this delicious, heavy, rich rum with incredible depth. The alcohol is perfectly integrated. The finish is breathtakingly long, with singular aromas: there's a roasted, toasted, empyreumatic edge that tugs at bitterness, but also notes of hazelnut, cocoa, coffee, caramel and toffee, all very sweet, with a hint of saltiness that makes for a delicious treat. We also find dried and exotic fruits and spices of all kinds. A radiant, sublime, imperial Caroni, the Olympus of Rum.

Yes, what can I say. Good Caroni :D Unfortunately it's hard to get and if you do, it's no longer affordable. For me, it's a tad better than the Last. A Caroni for every day. Very, very tasty.

In a nutshell, simply a grenade!!! There's simply nothing more to say about it and now just write complete nonsense to come up with these strange two hundred characters. So done 😅!

Very round Caroni, little dirty notes!
Review by Mopar Rules
intense, dirty, the cask is quite present with strong woody notes, leather. A slight touch of yellow fruits. I get now what Heavy Trinidad Rum means. Still hunting for the car repair shop notes. Guys, engine oil smells different, and I know! As I have to compare with my Demerara bench marks, it cannot be a 9.5

I like Caroni that is sweet, woody, leather tasted and little bit mint. This one is one of that bottles. Little bit sour, that I dont like.. If tou have a chance to taste this rum, do it. For any cost. Money will be there all the time, a chance to taste this rum not.

Schwerer, kräftiger Caroni ohne zu alkoholisch zu sein. Ein teures Meisterwerk.

Absolutely gorgeous sip. Perfectly round, slightly going fruity, little sweetish, ideal finish. In heaven now.
Review by Korbinian Koch
Perfectly round; reminiscent of grappa and sweet grape jam. Definitely not your typical dirty Caroni notes.
