Depaz Millésime 2002
Most tasters land in the same happy place here: a fruity, dry Martinique agricole where dark chocolate, dried fruit and toasted oak sit on fresh sugarcane. The nose gets a lot of love — peach, marzipan, almond, cacao. The recurring grumble is the palate doesn't quite match it: several wanted more complexity and a longer finish. Give it time in the glass; it opens up.

Tasted with the Depaz XO prestige, it is better in the mouth and the finish is more interesting despite a lower price. The nose is less interesting than the XO. In mouth a peaty side absent in the nose, dried fruits and tropical fruits. The finish is floral with violet.

Good Agricole, not super complex, but well suited for beginners. Pleasant wood tones, red fruits, some leather, pleasant sweetness. Alcohol well integrated, but you should give it some standing time.

Blind Tasting. Had guessed an Agricole from Martinique, but J. M.. On the nose I smell something like freshly limed wall and some owl, on the palate I taste smoky, floral notes. The rhum seems dry, the finish is long. An honest Agricole, I like. Update 2023-07-04: Re-tastings like this after some time are a fine thing. Can you find out nicely whether the taste has evolved, refined. And whether certain preferences have solidified. With this rum I can say: Full confirmation of the previous assessment abundant half a year ago. And additionally, surprisingly, jelly-filled Christmas cookies on the nose. Therefore, even one point more. Yummy!

8,5:On the nose, it opens with warm dried fruits and an intense perfume. The tannins are melted and also bring some cocoa, perhaps milk chocolate. There are also some spices, the exotic fruits are ripe, especially papaya and pineapple. Fruits like banana or papaya then appear as if dried. The sugarcane is fresh... After an aeration, the wood is strong, spicy, with a note of a cigar box. The fruits fly underneath, candied, sweet. We have dried apricot, candied ginger and juicy sugarcane, fermented. 8,4:On the palate, the woodiness takes over, with fatty nuts. We might think of dark chocolate with raisins, before the spices open the way to a pepper. The sugarcane is fresh and mineral, juicy. The woodiness stays strong, as a mixture of prune and black fruits come into the game. 8,4:The finish is long and juicy with mineral sugarcane and very round fruits, a bit woody, dry, again dried fruits with a little minty freshness.. Edit:3.10.25

Tried a few Depazzes this week. Was looking forward trying this one; the only vintage of the lot. Nose: peaches. Mango. Marzipan. Almonds among others. Wow great start. Complex and tasty. Taste: very fruity, dry. Bitter. Overripe peaches. Wood(spices). Cognac. French oak tannins. Hint of freshness. The woodiness might be a bit too much for some but is quite common among older Agricoles. It's quite bitter too. But the fruitiness ties it to a nice and complex whole. Got a 6cl sample. Will drink a second glass later in time.

A very well-made agricultural rum. The nose subtly blends spices, wood, fruit and chocolate for a lovely roundness of flavor. The palate continues with a dry but rounded tone, a delight on which the same flavors rest, accompanied by caramel and tobacco. The finish is long, warm and pleasant. It's a pleasure to put your nose and mouth back in the glass.

Acidity, disinfection, kokina, taste already too agri

Great Agricole with a very drinkable appearance. Sure such super suitable for Agricole beginners.

Good value for money. Lack of sweetness on the finish

Last one before departure, again from the Advent calendar of La Route des Rhums. Delicious Agricole, again woody and spicy on the nose, notes of vanilla and cocoa are recognizable. Lots of agricole on the palate, as well as spice, wood and pepper.
Review by Tim
With this rum, wood, pungent dried fruit, and spices are found first on the nose. In second place resonates chocolate, caramel and floral sugar cane notes. Very faintly then still vanilla. In the mouth fruit acidity, dry and spicy. In the aftertaste then delicious chocolate with wood and fruit. Overall too dry and spicy for me.

Magnificent vintage, not too woody. A Martinique reference!
Review by Eric Frechin

Balanced agricole with woody notes and dried fruit.

A rhum that is ideal for relaxed, uninhibited enjoyment on the couch as well as for concentrated dissection of the individual aromas. Fine woody aromas are framed by a wonderful tropical fruit mixture. Delicious from start to finish!

3rd in the series. A very catchy nose, pleasant, soft and greedy. Very nice. A little disappointed on the palate. A big spicy attack and then... it's a bit all over the place really. Too bad, I would have appreciated more complexity.

Nice, strong spice, dry fruit and red fruit finish.

Depaz make great rums and this one is no exception. The price tag is very good compared to what you get. The nose is a clear Agricole with fruits, wood and vanilla trailed by chocolate and caramel. The nose is even better on the empty glass after a few hours. The palate is also Agricole with wood and fruits trailed by chocolate, tobacco and vanilla. The finish is long and warm with wood, dates and touch of vanilla.

A very nice dry Rhum Agricole. Very complex. Made for pure enjoyment. Can also be drunk as an aperitif or digestive. This rhum is for connoisseurs and gourmets. I can well imagine that this rhum could also be something for whiskey drinkers. The alcohol is well integrated and runs down the glass in fine bubbles.

My first Depaz. I find this very tasty and it has that typical sugar cane flavor I expected. Otherwise, I still tasted wood and I imagine a slight taste of red grapes. Tastes good to me.

Very nicely rhum agricole for me ;) On the palate: that’s impressive chocolate is still really sweet with caramel and also a lot of wood . Finish: long , rather dry with wood , sweet, grass and jam figs. Rhum good)
Review by Benoit Mahe
The nose is not to my taste, too much red fruit. The palate is lively and light. I liked the finish best of all, but unfortunately it's a little short. Still a good classic.
Review by alex
It's greedy, it drinks well, but it's not exceptional either. Lacks complexity and finishes a little short.

Compared to the VSOP and XO of Depaz again a slight increase. Very "refreshing" rum and very pleasant on the palate.

Very good value for money, rum to have in your cellar
Review by passlemix
My memory of this rum was more woody and dry. The bottle has been half-empty for 1 year, and the sensations have clearly changed. The nose is really nice, very fresh now with quite a marked pear and dark chocolate still. There's also a hint of malabar (we all have our own references 😅 ) and aniseed that's gaining ground. On the palate, it's drier, but I still get the freshness of the pear and the aniseed. It still lacks a little power, but it's a nice rum. I wouldn't have rated it as highly on the first tasting.

🔹 Depaz 2002 – 45 % Un nez absolument superbe !
Review by Rum man
Very good rum that needs some time in the glass but gives me different flavors every time. One day I smell the more grassy notes, the other day peachy notes, and the background notes change constantly as well, from barrel notes to an almost whisky note. Can keep sniffing this rum forever. Sips great too of course.

Top Rhum!
