Zéro Nine Spirits South Pacific Steampunk 5 2015

For experienced palates: a cask‑strength Fiji that leans dessert-like—vanilla flan, caramel and tropical fruit over fresh oak. RumX members enjoy the nose, but find the palate hot and fairly simple overall.

The look inside the bottle

How does Zéro Nine Spirits South Pacific Steampunk 5 2015 taste?

Aggregated from 10 community reviews.

Big nose, hot straightforward palate Solid cask-strength sipper with a very attractive dessert-like nose. The palate brings heat, spice and vanilla-caramel notes, but feels linear and alcohol-forward for several reviewers.

Perfect for

Cask-strength fans who enjoy vanilla-caramel dessert notes, don’t mind some alcohol bite, and are curious about limited Fiji releases with a more straightforward, oak-and-vanillin profile.

Less suitable for

Beginners, those sensitive to strong alcohol, and enthusiasts seeking a funky, clearly typical Fiji profile with lots of complexity and ester-driven character.

👃The vanilla and caramel flavors are quite present accompanied by a mix of ripe fruit and a little glue, all in sweetness. 👄 To this you add cocoa and a little coconut and cinnamon on the palate. It's oily and powerful with its high alcohol content, and the finish is rather long. Let yourself be tempted

A very pleasant nose to start the discovery of this rum. Glue, caramel, vanilla, tropical fruit and wood blend harmoniously. Very inviting! On the palate, the alcohol is a little biting on the first sip. Then ripe, caramelized fruit. Lots of greediness. Peppery vanilla finish. Correct length. The taste is not on a par with the particularly pleasant nose. But a nice selection.

Unfortunately not a typical Fiji profile. Rather boring, young fresh oak barrel with lots of vanillin. Not much else.

The cask strength version is unfortunately not much better. It also seems more like Barbados rum than Fiji... The alcohol is rather poorly integrated and is very pungent, making the drinking experience rather unharmonious. Apart from alcohol, some caramel and baking spices, there's not much to be found here.

Un beau nez, mais en bouche assez linéaire et ennuyeux.

At first sight, the nose is pleasantly dessert-like, with vanilla and fruity (yellow) notes. The alcohol comes on gradually, but is not too invasive, and the first taste remains in the same vein as the nose, i.e. gourmand. But the alcohol, with its almost acidic spiciness, quickly takes over in a rather lasting way, leaving an alkaline and anaesthetic impression. The vanilla gradually reappears, but a little too late for my taste. Quite an exercise to drink it, alcohol too present for me.
