CoR Hampden Pedro Ximénez (Single Cask Jamaican Rum) DOK 2023
One taster called this a "bomb of esters" — and that's the whole story. A young Hampden DOK finished in Pedro Ximénez, so you get glue, overripe pineapple, banana and that medicinal high-ester punch, wrapped in sweet sherry fruit. The catch most people name: the PX finish and the youth leave it a bit unbalanced, with a bitter, astringent edge on the palate.
The community says- Huge ester punch
- Tropical PX fruit
- Bitter, astringent finish

Wild young DOK with a sweet PX twist Loved for its wild ester-and-glue intensity plus PX sweetness, but many find it young and unbalanced, with a bitter, astringent finish. Rated best of the three CoR bottlings by several.

Very intense on the nose, the profile matches a young, tropically matured Hampden. On the palate, the youthful freshness is still somewhat stronger, although the ageing in ex-sweet wine barrels has already added a pleasant expression and heavy sweetness. A successful release.

Probably by far the strangest DOK I've drunk so far. The nose is exactly what you would expect, but the palate is totally wild. Unusually dry even if the viscosity of the PX sherry is recognizable, mineral, astringent, medically bitter and super furry in terms of mouthfeel. Unfortunately, I don't like it at all, the GRF bottling was much better.

8,4:On the nose, esters are inevitable, as glue, then overripe tropical fruits burst into the wide open, pairing dried fruits. As we could scent some red wine, perhaps sherry later on.There are bananas, pineapple, red fruits, plum, raisins....They are melted into the marmelade. The wood is roasted with burnt sugar, nuts, marzipan, caramelized. An aeration brings out herbaceous molasses with menthol, coffee and fresh lime. 8,2:On the palate, the attack is a bit wild, rough, edgy with medicinal notes, roasted wood, bitter molasses and spiciness, until overripe tropical, dried fruits round the rum and please our tasting buds with really tasty marmelade. It becomes dry and more vegetal with an olive, after we air it a bit.Sweet strawberries come in the game, some other red fruits, as we might think of a sherry or some sweet red wine teasing the buds. After resting, coconut and yeast residual might be tasted. So, after the first attack, it becomes balanced and leads to a very tasty and balanced finish... 8,5:The finish is long and tasty, the palate notes are in balance now, as some earthy cigar notes are evident after the sip is well gone... Edit:14.12.-resting, oxidation helps, I like it, no edges like before.

A rum tasted at the GRF in 2024, CoR masterclass. A dry nose with esters but also dry herbs and a sweetness that undoubtedly comes from the PX. The attack is soft on the palate, the esters are present but not too lively. The finish is a little short. A rather strange rum that's not bad but doesn't appeal to me either.

Of the three bottlings from Colours of Rum, this one is slightly ahead for me. The finish is borderline, but still within reason. The base material recedes a little into the background and lacks a little depth, but the alcohol is the best integrated of the three. Unfortunately not a unicorn either, but okay for the price.

Finiš a jamajský základ vytvořili parádní vůni. Úplná voňavka. Moc pěkně propojené. Pořád je tam ostrost, která kopne, ale už je to více zaoblené než Madeira. Také závěr je povedenější. Je takový hutný, melasový.

Unfortunately, it doesn't pick me up, alcoholic on the nose alternating with intrusive sweetness (a bit like cold mulled wine). The classic DOK notes are somehow lost. Similar on the palate, with a rather sharp finish.

Like you would expect in the nose. Strong Jamaica on PX casks. Lacks a bit depth, but 100% price-quality!

A fresh Hampden DOK with a PX finish ... is unfortunately not the best choice in this case. Still relatively classic markers on the nose with a slight PX influence, the finish on the palate is unfortunately somewhat destructive... at least as far as the Mark DOK is concerned. There is very little funk left. An unpleasant bitter note accompanies you.

Messebewertung.

#5335 Tasting at the German Rum Fest 2024 where I forgot to put the tasting live 😂 Nose Fresh, round, light wood, faint roasted, fruity, overripe, light glue, banana, spice, light ester. Palate Light, wood, light roasted, fruity, light glue, overripe, faint earthy, light mango, dried fruit, light ester. Finish Round, light, wood, light roasted, ester, licorice, spice.

In the nose beautiful ester notes and nail polish paired with a sweet fruitiness... goes down quite well ... Alcohol slightly biting . On the palate The alcohol is very present at first... the DOK is easy to recognize with the usual markers...but the finish comes through quite quickly . All in all quite ok (I'm just not a big fan of finish(ing) 🤣

Soooo many esthers that you even cannot breath .. Hampden, legendarni jamajska destilerka, ktera krome rumu produkuje take alkohol do parfemu. Ve vsech rumech z teto destilerky ucitite divoke estery, po kterych cely vas organizmus nasakne vuni zluteho tropickeho ovoce - manga, papaji, anansu, broskvi. Jeden z rumu, ktere "must try before die"

Quite interesting for such a youngster. Lack of complexity is obvious of course. Modern PX notes in taste can be found, would let that cask rest a few more years for better results.

beautiful fragrance, warms up nicely, slightly sour and strong finish, much better than CoR oloroso

Slušný mladý Hampden DOK, do něhož se propisují sudy Pedro Ximénez. Hodně ovocitý, esterový.
