Hampden 8 Marks Collection (1 year) LROK
Grilled pineapple, glue and overripe tropical fruit up front, with a smoky, roasted-wood edge that surprised a few tasters. This is Hampden's LROK mark given one year in the barrel, and reviewers agree the wood tames the raw spirit and pushes the fruit forward. The 52% keeps it lively. A few still find the palate thin and watery next to the bright nose.

Die Nase nun schon süßlicjer und nicht mehr die grünen früchte in der Dominanz. Es wird hier durchaus karamelliger. Im Geschmack viel angenehmer als der lfch. Um einiges elegantere Töne. Auch ein etwas rauchigerer Zeitgenosse.

Die Nase macht erstmal Spaß mit Noten von gegrillter Ananas und leicht vergorenen Estern. Am Gaumen dann etwas süßlich karamellisiert aber auch viel rauchiger als erwartet. Leider ist aber auch hier eine penetrante plastik Benzin Note da, die mich extrem stört.

Zum Tagesabschluss dann den Hampden LROK aus der 8 Marks Collection 1 year. Hier hat man in Nase und Gaumen auch überwiegend wieder Ester, obwohl dies die dritt schwächste Stufe ist. Kommen noch tropische Früchte und Holz dazu, aber auf jenen Fall zu empfehlen.

Nose is great, light and complex with tropical fruits. The mouth is musty with caramel and some older notes. The finish is musty with some petrol and tropical fruits. Solid but a little soapy on the finish

Wie HLCF besitzt auch das Mark LROK eine hohe Vielfalt an Ester, auch wenn sich die Gesamtestermenge eher im unteren Mittelfeld bewegt. Standardmäßig Furfurale, darüberhinaus hat dieses Fass aber laut chemischer Analyse einen sehr hohen Anteil an Cresolen (Rauch, röstig) abgegeben, denn Rauchnoten sind durchaus bemerkbar. Außerdem sind viele andere volatile Moleküle vorhanden, die eine komplexe Vielfalt erzeugen. Rauch ist aber nicht unbedingt mein Lieblingsaroma, weshalb es bei einer 8.0 bleibt.

Un nez fermenté comme pour la version non vieillie avec des esters, des bois jeunes et de l’ananas frais. La première bouche est acqueuse, dommage d’avoir baissé l’ABV, surtout pour les marks les moins riches en esters. Les fruits suivent mais sont discrets. Ici aussi la bouche est en retrait par rapport au non-vieilli. La finale paraît moins boisée et le bois est un peu mieux intégré que pour les OWH et LFCH.

Und jetzt die Nummer drei der Acht Marks Hampden Collection. Dieser schmeckt mir wieder etwas schlechter als die Nummer zwei. Etwas sehr viel Säure und Alkohol nicht ganz so gut eingebunden. Ester und tropische Früchte sind zu erkennen

Hampden 8 Marks Collection - Aged vs. Unaged: Nase immer noch hauptsächlich Klebstoff, Frucht eher im Hintergrund. Am Gaumen dünn und unspektakulär. Insgesamt kein Genuss und im Vergleich zur ugelagerten Version eher schlechter. Fazit: keiner der 16 Rums war ein Genuss und die Bewertung ist nur als relativ untereinander zu verstehen. Trotzdem sehr interessant alle Marks unter gleichen Bedingungen zu probieren und die verschiedenen Ausprägungen von Frucht, Klebstoff, Würze und Überraschenderweise oft Umami zu schmecken. Demnächst ein Set mit 3-5 Jahren im Fass?
