Rumclub Private Selection Jamaica Rum Red Barrel 2024
The red wine cask is the twist here: a Hampden pot-still Jamaican that trades the usual "nail salon" solvent blast for grape, red-fruit and light tannins. Expect overripe pineapple, banana and papaya with roasted young wood and a dry, slightly bitter finish. Several tasters call it a friendly bridge into high-ester rum, though a few find the wine note too loud and the body thin.

How does Rumclub Private Selection Jamaica Rum Red Barrel 2024 taste?
Aggregated from 52 community reviews.
Fruity Hampden softened by red-wine cask Well-liked as an easy entry into Hampden funk, with a distinctive red-wine grape edge. The catch: some find it thin and slightly hot, and the wine note divides people.

High Ester Worthy Park meets red wine barrel. Great fun, especially the price-performance ratio!

As expected, not really a highlight. My prejudices have been confirmed. The finish is absolutely not successful for me. The wine note comes through too strongly for me. Overall, it also seems far too thin and watery. Not my cup of tea at all. The only positive thing here is the price.
Review by Nik the spirit-ed
In my view, this rum is brilliant because it bridges the gap between funky high-ester rums and no-ester rums. The balance between fruity notes and the notes from the red wine cask aging is very well done. This rum is free from petrol notes or, as Robyn Smith would say, "Nail Salon." If you're looking for a funk bomb, you'll be disappointed here. But if you want a more approachable integration of the high-ester notes, you'll love this rum.

8,5:On the nose, the first impression we get are overripe, fermented tropical fruits with banana, papaya, guava, a bit sweet and grassy, underpinned with roasted wood, citruses. When aired a bit, caramelized dried fruits arise, molasses, it becomes more vegetal, herbal, as there is some anise, tobacco. It is minimally spicy, there are red fruits out of red wine finish. Later leathery, musty and waxy. Nicely balanced. 8,5:On the palate, the attack is fruity and warm, tasty with fermented, overripe tropical fruits as papaya, guava, there is some lime, as the fruits melt into delicious cherry compote with cloves, rhubarb. The wood is young and roasted, caramelized. Aeration brings out even more red fruits, that become candied, molasses are thick and syrupy, musty notes crawl in after well rested. 8,4:The finish is sweet and long, very tasty, as fruits are very ripe, the fruit compote with cloves is still delicious, the wood is dry, molasses thick, later some tannins arise, as the rum is also a bit musty... Delicious...

The fact that this rum was finished in red wine is obvious! The color cast is too clearly visible. This almost suggests a wet finish. On the nose, the influence of the finish is just as noticeable (red wine/kumquat) and I also detect some caramel. It spreads thinly and lightly on the palate. Initially, this grape/kumquat note again, which then gives way to a nutty caramel/cream toffee note. Alcohol is well integrated. The finish is on the herbal, bitter side. This bottling is not for me, but should find its friends

Ein toller Rum zu einem super Preis. Ziemlich funky mit fast 1000 Ester. Den hätte ich gerne in Fassstärke

The nose suggests nothing. A gift! For me, it's more about the rest... The palate continues with a light fruity sharpness that I don't like very much. The alcohol keeps coming through aggressively and negatively during the tasting. I still have 2 cl left and, given the other reviews, I'm confident that I've just had a bad day =P Thanks for the sample @Alex.K

Absolute price-performance cracker! Of course it has a hard time against the RumClub Single Casks from Jamaica, but for 50€ it's incredibly strong!

Kneipe Alte Post Witten Februar 2025.

Fresh Jamaican rum with a light ester note. The red wine cask gives the rum a lovely grape note with not too strong tannins.
Review by Jakob
Great release. The nose is wonderfully round, the Hampden profile comes through wonderfully - overall, the olfactory experience almost reminds me of a fresh high-ester daiquiri thanks to the citrus fruits. It is precisely this triad of fully ripe pineapple notes, fresh lime and a little sugar that make up the overall nasal package. There are no major surprises on the palate - the aroma spectrum is flanked by subtle woody influences, and the reduced drinking strength is also somewhat noticeable; the brute force of higher-proof high-ester bottlings is of course not to be found here. An appealing release with a convincing PLV.

Nose delicious and mild Jamaican funk; tongue similar, balanced, mild, the sweetness from the red wine barrel influence quite fitting, very tasty!

Un rhum gouté au GRF en 2025. Masterclass RumClub.

Heavy vanilla notes. Almost artificial.
Review by crazyforgoodbooze
Jamaica rum grape nut in liquid form, just not full on the 12 but rather relaxed. Light esters, glue, tannins from the red wine finish, nutty and fruity notes like bitter roasted hazelnuts and red grapes. Round experiment and easy to drink. Overall, the alcohol could be better integrated, but the finish is relatively sharp despite only 48%
