Enmore El Dorado Rare Collection EHP 1996
Near-universal love here, with only mild grumbles. This 1996 Enmore off the wooden Coffey still surprises people by being fruitier than expected — raisins, prunes, cherry and orange peel over dark chocolate, coffee, oak and that classic Demerara glue note. The 21 years and full tropical aging show. A couple of tasters find the finish a touch bitter or the body slightly thin, but most call it "one of the best rums I've ever had."

Surprisingly fruity, fresh Enmore! Very unusual, almost Spanish-like! Raspberry, fig, mint, orange peel, glue, and plum on the nose, less wood than expected. On the palate, fig, light coconut, raisin, wood, and grapefruit. In the finish, the raspberry comes back with mint, grapefruit peel, bitter orange, tannins, and black tea notes. Plus lightly charred barrel notes and really well balanced! One of the best Enmores so far! You could almost blind pick it with Foursquare or Antigua... Really awesome stuff... I find it fantastic. Absolutely underrated! And a very fair great value.

Excellent Demerara rum that sails in the slipstream of its big brothers from Velier. Here too: complete tropical maturation, wonderful sweetness, elegant fruit aromas, wood and spice. Excellent integration of the alcohol. Very round, drinkable - a top representative of the EHP Marques.

Insanely brilliant nose 😋 Lots of fruit meets tobacco, chocolate and caramel, with some wood and spice in the background. This is right up my alley. In the mouth it veers more towards spice, chocolate and toasty flavors, but all very balanced and poised. Lingering caramel and chocolate notes linger, followed by dried fruit and very noticeable raspberry. Compared to the ED Albion, probably more fruit overall, but less dark chocolate and not as toasty. Price is still quite good in this segment.

A beautiful tropical ripened demerara to enjoy. Heady nose with lots of stickiness, you can smell an entire evening on this. Great warm feeling in the mouth. My favorites from the Rare Collection: Diamond, Albion and then this Enmore.

26.10.2025 Part 1 Today we have an El Dorado Rare Cask online tasting and I've been looking forward to it. I will keep the score and just enjoy the rums and I have all of them on my shelves as well. ---------------- Compared to the previous Rare Collection from Enmore, this one has more "punch" but not in a bad way. Definitely a must try.

An already complex nose with, in no particular order, wood, citrus, caramel and vanilla, spices and glue, barrel, prunes and leather. On the palate, the attack is frank, with bitter wood and caramel. This is followed by an incredible quantity of aromas that coat the mouth cavity, giving the distinct impression that the flavors are increasing rather than slowly diminishing. An exceptional evolution on the palate, as aromas become more complex and deeper. The finish doesn't really stand out on the palate, and is incredibly long. A rum I love for its incredible evolution on the palate.

One of the top Original Bottlings coming out of DDL. While this one does not have to fear a comparison with some of our beloved Velier bottlings, recent DDL OB Releases seem not to hold up unfortunately. Always a pleasure to revisit this Enmore.

A powerful, intensely aromatic Enmore. The profile is dark and delicious, dominated by typical aromas of spice, licorice, oak, chocolate, coffee and caramel. Fruits (tropical, dried, orange, cherry), solvents and glue add real olfactory depth. An elegant Enmore that's bold enough for the nostrils. The rum retains its power on the palate, but also shows subtlety in the aromas. There's a dark side of dark chocolate, tobacco, mocha, walnuts and caramel, but also a pronounced spiciness, vanilla, woodiness and roastiness typical of Demerara. The rum is gripping on the palate, complex, greedy and rich. The alcohol is very well integrated, despite the strength. The finish is very long, carried by a roasted, even smoky, chocolatey, dark and bitter profile. The raisin and walnut flavors make their presence felt, adding a little roundness. Paradoxically, a hint of menthol makes its appearance and gives the final touch to this liquid masterpiece, which clearly stands out from other Enmore vintages.

Franconian Tasting Gang Edit: at the tasting we tried some El Dorados like this one, as well as the Albion and Skeldon. The conclusion: you can't go wrong with any of these bottlings. In contrast to the Velier bottlings, these are still available at affordable prices and the difference for me is only minimal. Whereas this one didn't appeal to me personally.

Revision 9.11.24, an upgrade to 9. Delightful, it is delicious. 8,5: On the nose, the first notes we get are yellow fruits with tobacco, leather, nicely roasted with caramelized burnt sugar, some solvents and woody. Fruits are now red with cherry, prunes, figs and becoming dry and the wood is toasted. Aeration brings some herbal notes with cereal, darker side of this rum as charred wood, roasted nuts, licorice, chocolate, cocoa, walnut some confectionery and candied fruit and finally becomes just a bit metallic and smoky, there is also some menthol. 8,6:On the palate, the first impression is a syrupy, very fruity and spicy rum with yellow, red and then dried fruits. It reminds us on bourbon.The spices are sweet and warm. The wood is toasted and rum becomes more roasted, burnt with caramelized burnt sugar and some metallic notes. It is round and balanced. Chocolate, cocoa, nuts and some orange peel emerge. 8,8:The finish is very long, balanced, elegant with dried fruits, red fruits, caramelized nuts, chocolate, toasted wood and roastedness...🙂..

Today "only" 86 points. Maybe it's my form of the day, but the rum seems a bit thin to me overall, although it is quite drinkable. Will definitely give him a second chance.Update 04.11.2022:Strange rum. Or my daily form is very fluctuating. Today, in any case, the rum does not seem thin to me as the other day, but only sharp. I guess I'm not warming up to this rum somehow. Or with this Enmore brand EHP?I leave the 86 points now stand, the rum can nothing for my labile perception. 😉

Another superb rum from El Dorado's all tropical matured rare collection, very complex, quite fruity to me. I've never had the privilege of trying a Velier Demerara but trying this makes me want to get my hands on some even more, if only to prove that these rare collection series rums are very underrated!

Tasted alongside the ED Albion and the ED CBH. The EHP is generally more on the roasty/spicy side with chocolate, spices, wood, coffee and malt. The CBH is much fruitier and more intense, especially on the nose. The Albion is somewhere in between. I like them all very much in their own way.

Enmore 1996 - ein großer Name. Was diese Abfüllung aber liefert, wird dem Namen gerecht. Nicht das ganze großer Kino wie einige andere El Dorados, aber trotzdem eine Top-Abfüllung. Schöner tiefgründiger Enmore-Rum, der den Charakter einer der spannendsten Destillerien überhaupt gut wiedergibt.

I've never had a rare cask that I didn't like. Great bottling. Beautiful blend of very differentiated flavor components that harmonize perfectly with each other. Hazelnut with mint, apple, milk chocolate, caramel. Wood is there but well integrated with the sweetness. Delicious.

I have the 1996 and the 1993 El Dorado Enmore in my glass at the same time. The color of the 96 is a touch darker than the 1993. The 93 sample has been open for a long time and the 96 has been in the glass overnight. It is much more open today than yesterday. The profile of the two is very similar. The 96 is slightly more intense and the dried fruit is more prominent. It is a shade less toasty. The mouth is also more intense and balanced than the 93. What is good in the 93 can also be found here (Nutella), but the acidity and bitterness are better integrated. Excellent alcohol integration in both. The finish is longer but incredibly mild, with a slight single freshness with red fruit compote. This is very nice. Overall, these are two pleasing rums, with a clear Demerara profile but also a slight Column Still arbitrariness. The 1996 is actually a little better than the 1993

Rumy Enmore totiz maji prichut popelu, kuze, tezkeho dreva, coz nadchne zejmena milovniky nakourenych whisky. A pokud tradicnim Guyanskym zpusobem prida vyrobce do rumu trochu melasy, mate v lahvi unikatni velmi vyrazny a tezky rum. Jeden z mych oblibenych.

Ugh! I thought I was in for a treat, but either my allergies are playing tricks on me or... it was very good, but not much more. Round vanilla, caramel, light oak, a little fruit, a pinch of spice... nose a little flat (sample effect?), finish a little too short for this type of range... it's better in the mouth but I'm still hungry.

Vier der El Dorado Rare Collection Abfüllungen parallel verkoster: 2004 Albion, 2000 Skeldon, 1998 Diamond CBH, 1996 Enmore. Trotz unterschiedlicher Charakter sind alle vier sehr lecker und von der Benotung eng zusammen. Wenn ich mich entscheiden müsste (was ich zum Glück nicht muss, da alle im Regal stehen) würde ich zuerst den Diamond (Klebstoff, Frucht), dann den Enmore (noch etwas mehr Klebstoff, Frucht), danach Albion (Karamel und Nougat) und den Skeldon (Mokka) wählen.

Sehr schöner El Dorado Enmore aus der Rare Collection. In der Nase kann eine angenehme Süße von Karamell, Vanille, Trockenfrüchten und Roten Früchten wahrnehmen. Der Geschmack geht dann über in geröstete Nüsse, Gewürze, Vanille und Dörrobst. Sehr mild für knappe 60 ABV. Eine klare Kaufempfehlung, zumal der Rum noch bei einigen Händlern regulär angeboten wird.

Edit 28.4.24 Re-drinking in a comparison, slightly higher score than previous time. A nice expression, pretty light style driven by caramel and wood plus a bit of leather. Oily with a great body,. drink side it mainly confirms the feeling of the nose.

The second Enmore from El Dorado ! It is probably better balanced than the 1993 on both nose and palate but has less depth on the palate. Different qualities but, at the end, that's an equality between these two rums in my opinion !

On the nose: OK, this is going to be good. Very rich and balanced palate of woody, leather, vanilla, caramel. You get hints of orange peel in there and after sitting in the glass you get some minty notes. Also after sitting inbthe glass the orange peel notes become stronger. Taste: Woody, vanilla, caramel, dark chocolate and cacao notes. Roasted coffee. Dried fruits. Raisins. Abv gives a nice body to all of this. Round and complex palate at the same time Finish: Long finish with dark chocolate. Woody notes. Some dried fruit and nutty in there. Towards the end there is some earthy, maybe minty notes. After sitting in the glass the finish starts to have some bitter notes One those rums that you could sip all night. As far as scoring goes in the El Dorado Rare Collection-series, i remember that the Skeldon was slightly richer in palate therefore i score this in "second" place.

Ovocná vůně je pro mě na enmore trochu překvapením. Chuť je velmi příjemná, nasládlá, svěží a komplexní. Po chvilce rozvibruje jazyk a ukáže další chutě. Očekával jsem mnohem víc dřeva, ale vlastně mi nechybí. Ve středně dlouhém závěru jsem nejintenzivnější maliny.

Profil étonnement gourmand. Je m'attendais à quelque chose de très boisé et collé au sol. C'est finalement plus rond et fruité qu'imaginé. En bouche, l'alcool est superbement intégré et le tout est très équilibré. Le bois est présent mais pas dominant. Vanille et caramel pour la gourmandise. Des fruits. Des épices. Une touche étonnante de coco. Une belle longueur. Superbe. Merci beaucoup à Rodolphe pour le sample.

In a cross-tasting with several other El Dorados (all of which are of high quality), this one stands out with significantly more fruit that harmonizes perfectly with the otherwise dark aromas. The finish is a little too bitter for me to give it a top rating.
