Poured neat into a tasting glass, this is a menthol-and-blackcurrant TDL through and through. Mint, eucalyptus and Vicks-style freshness lead, then cassis, red fruit, iced peach tea and a light dirty rubber note underneath. The 60% is mostly well woven in, though a few tasters wish it were oilier. Dry, tannic, herbaceous finish that goes on and on.

Fantastic 2003 TDL! It brings absolutely everything I expect from a good TDL. Mint, menthol, and eucalyptus that freshen up the whole mouth without being one-dimensional or too intense are accompanied by red fruits like cassis, dark juicy blackberries, red and black currants like in red fruit jelly. Orange peel adds warmth and freshness. In the finish, there’s also peach and passion fruit, as well as lychees like in an awesome homemade iced tea based on strong black tea, plus endless menthol and eucalyptus and a hint of burnt caramel... Alcohol perfectly integrated. Amazing bottling!! 🇹🇹🐢

Sensationeller TDL. Typische Noten die man von neueren TDL, nach 2000, erwartet. Ergänzend zu dem „normalen“ wie Minze/Mentol, tropischen Früchten finde ich hier etwas Cassis/Schwarze Johannisbeere, was mir sehr gefällt. Zurecht in der Liste der Top-Abfüllungen 2023 (RumX-Auswertung)

Impressive notes of cassis, plus the expected intense mint-menthol profile paired with spicy-woody barrel influences, which tend to act in the background - aromatically without the big fireworks, because the fruitiness is very much dominated by the blackcurrant, as mentioned, but that doesn't make the rum any less fascinating. Great, pronounced aromas, wonderfully round and oily mouthfeel - I like it very much.

After I tasted the rum solo yesterday and was quite impressed by it, it has to go up against another 2003 today: my choice is the CdI Caksus (RX11936), which I gave a whopping 89 points to back then. And what can I say: it has a really hard time against this brand new TDL from the still very unknown Bottler Spirit Gallery! If one is ahead on the nose and then the other 😉, although neither of them is yet highly recommended, but rather greets you shyly with slightly alcoholic vapors, the heavyweight from Spirit Gallery turns up the heat on the palate and literally pushes the Caksus against the wall. To put it plainly: the CdI Caksus gets the maximum palatable flavors out of the 56.3%, especially menthol, while the Spirit Gallery, by virtue of its (fairly well integrated) 60%, mainly presses a huge spice onto the palate (menthol plays a rather subordinate role). Conclusion: The Caksus TDL is more the light-footed, good-humored lightweight boxer who plays at the top of his class, while the Spirit Gallery TDL is the impetuous, somewhat fierce heavyweight boxer at the beginning of his career, who can hardly walk with power, but already has a lot of potential. A somewhat unequal fight, which fortunately still ends in a draw.

Edit: TDL battle! For me, the best of the lot. The nose is from another world, with lots of fuits, menthol, spices, yellow and red fruits, notably blackcurrant and dried apricots. The palate follows with lots of fruit, and a tea-bag background. Mint turns to chlorophyll and eucalyptus. The finish is endless. In short, my best TDL to date, powerful and complex.

This is a high-end TDL... it combines all the good flavors of mint, menthol, fruits, spices, herbs and sweetness. For me, it's comparable to the Rasta Morris... only one small drawback: the alcohol could be a little better integrated. But that only makes a small difference

WOW ... Wonderful noses black currant, mint, eucalyptus honey ... very tasty . On the palate similar game the red fruits dominate at first... then mint and eucalyptus come through nicely . Really good 2003 👍

It takes a while for everything to unfold on the nose, then I have yellow and red fruits, dirty notes, caramel. The freshness is also there, but not as dominant as in the RA 2001, for example. Fruity, dirty on the palate, menthol at the back, tannins/barrel. Very long, never-ending finish. An excellent TDL! Amazing that such a young IB could track down such a pearl!

9,1:On the nose, the first impression is really great, round and balanced with menthol, roasted wood notes like nuts, caramel, dirty, fruity with blackcurrant, berries and pineapple, herbaceous, flowery with an elderflower and grassy molasses. On aeration tobacco, honey pop up, fresh, minty notes, red, dried and citrus fruits, dark chocolate and vanilla, some tar. 9,1:On the palate, the attack is balanced with fruits like blackcurrant, dried fruits with raisins, apricots, when rested with yellow, tropical fruits like pineapple, maracuja and citrus with lemon grass, then menthol and fresh, herbaceous, flowery, minty molasses with honey, roasted wood with caramel, nuts and spicy. Later we might find tobacco, eucalyptus and some tar. 9:The finish is dry and tannic, a bit smoky, most of the palate notes lingering on, we could also catch some sour cherry, passion fruit and hints of crunchy bread... 👃 The nose is taken by spice, oak, red fruit, mint and caramel. 👄 The palate offers even more spice, tropical fruit. It's fat and very empyreumatic. The alcohol is quite present, well integrated and this juice easily supports being aerated.

An der Nase unverkennbar Minze, aber auch einiges an Gewürzen, Holz, Karamell und auch fruchtige Noten. Am Gaumen dann schön intensiv mit einer ordentlichen Portion Minze, aber auch Frucht (Beeren), leicht adstringierend. Sehr guter 2003er TDL!! Edit: Schlägt sich im Vergleich zu anderen 2003er TDLs sehr gut!

Whaou ! Quelle découverte , une magnifique trouvaille pour un tarif tout à fait cohérent. J adore les TDL eh bien là je suis comblé il y a tout ce que j aime .au nez on a un melange épicé fruits rouges, bois exotique, sucre brûlé, une touche de fraise . C est bien lourd !en bouche l alcool passe bien. On a toujours le cassis mais complété par une belle fraîcheur mentholée/ chlorophylle. une belle longueur boisée fraiche et de la vivacité avec un côté quinquina. Du début jusqu'à la fin , un véritable plaisir !

In the test WDC, RC(Edt.52?), Hunter Laing and the one from Spirit Gallery. The differences are clearly recognizable, the WDC and RC are more on the Spanish chocolate side, whereas the SG and HL are the absolute minty alcohol bombs. There's a bit too much mint in both for me, which overpowers almost everything. Sorry, it's a little too much for me. But it's a matter of taste, unfortunately not mine. Otherwise they are all good bottlings, although I would put the WDC and RC more in the easy sipping category.

Sehr leckerer und runder TDL mit den typischen Aromen von gelben Früchten und Minze, könnte für meinen Geschmack aber noch etwas mehr Minze/Krautigkeit mitbringen. Edit: Nochmals verkostet gegen RX17301, der für meinen Geschmack einfach nochmal einen Ticken runder ist und das bessere Verhältnis von Krautigkeit zu gelben Früchten bietet, außerdem für meinen Geschmack der Alkohol dort noch etwas besser integriert. Nichtsdestotrotz für mich beides top Abfüllungen.

It would have deserved more time in the glass to fully express itself. 21 years of ageing takes time to stretch! But I had already tasted it a month ago. On the nose, an explosion of red fruits (blackcurrants in particular), more vegetal notes (eucalyptus, mint), and a discreet whiff of garage. On the palate, a complexity of blackcurrant, mint, cut grass and spices. A slight woodiness is transparent. Great art! An interminable finish of gourmet fruit.

Ein typischer TDL des Jahrgangs 2003, der zu einer Mischung aus roten Früchten und Frische neigt. Im Mund erinnert er fast an einen alten Cognac Borderies, mit einer leichten Dirty-Note, die daran erinnert, dass wir uns in Trinidad befinden. Ich bin sehr froh, dass ich diese Abfüllung probieren konnte, die offensichtlich der großen Mehrheit derjenigen, die sie probiert haben, gefallen hat.

Un nez fabuleux sur les fruits rouges, l’ananas, le menthol, et les épices. Un côté très sale nous vient mais ça ne prend pas le dessus ! Ce nez est aussi floral, avec une pointe de lavande. Aucun doute, on est bien sûr un TDL ! Une bouche à la hauteur du nez, merveilleuse. Tout s’emmêle : du menthol, du cassis, du chocolat noir avec une amertume maîtrisée, un côté très rôti et une pointe d’agrumes sur la fin. Cette bouteille est vraiment incroyable, un TDL extrêmement équilibré, avec une belle longueur et une puissance superbe. Magnifique sélection de Spirit Gallery, un des meilleurs TDL que j’ai bu à ce jour !

👃 toute sorte de déclinaisons vives autour de la menthe; eucalyptus, menthe poivrée, vicks vaporub. Combinaison caractéristique de pêche glacée et mentholée. C'est herbacé sur des herbes champêtres à la rosée, et je trouve l'odeur typique de l'herbe à fumer. Un fruité sec, sur du bourgeon de cassis, des baies rouges et noires, de la figue de barbarie. Il évolue vers de la mangue confite et de la confiture d'ananas. Joli caramel sur de la crème brûlée. Le chêne est toasté et délivre de Légères notes pétrolifères et goudronnées. Un excellent nez, sur lequel on pourrait rester des heures. 😋 Thé glacé à la pêche, littéralement 🤯 Bombe camphrée, menthol, eucalyptus. C'est herbacé encore, sur du tabac, graines de weed, thé vert. Les fruits tropicaux ensuite, légèrement acidulés. Un trio gourmand d'épices de chêne, de chocolat noir amer et de caramel brûlé. L'aspect dirty du nez est moins présent. Consistance huileuse, vive, chaude, fruitée. ⛳ Longue, pimentée, chaude, amère, herbacée. Saveur de fruits confiturés, caramel de sucs de fruits. La menthe fraîche évolue longuement vers du thé et du tabac. 💡 Intense, suffisamment complexe et bel équilibre des arômes. Pour moi l'un des meilleurs représentants du millésime 2003 qui associe les arômes typiquement fruités et mentholés à un aspect plus sombre et dirty des 2001.

Very nice TDL from a new bottler. Took a mini sip when bottling. The nose is immediately filled with red fruits. Mint, of course, but also some rubber, bicycle inner tube and caramel. The whole thing continues well in the mouth. Red fruits, fruit tea, tobacco, spice and caramel. Some mint is always there. Pleasant spice and chocolate on the finish. The mint lingers long in the finish. Almost no alcohol noticeable. Very nice bottling!

Un rhum qui a été acclamé par la critique et on comprend vite pourquoi. Le nez est un florilège d’arômes : une grosse dose de fruits rouges et noirs (cassis, baies noires, cerise) qui évolue vers un fruité plus tropical (ananas), une claque mentholée avec de belles notes d’eucalyptus, de tabac et d’herbes médicinales mais aussi une saleté inattendue qui part sur le caoutchouc et qui n’est pas sans rappeler une certaine distillerie défunte, c’est absolument délicieux. Le tout est élégant, harmonieux, adouci par un soupçon de caramel, des épices douces (vanille, piment) et un boisé parfaitement fondu pour son âge. Du grand art ! La bouche est un véritable festival, un embouteillage prenant, étonnant de part sa complexité et son intensité. Le menthol, les herbes médicinales (eucalyptus) et le tabac frais rencontrent le thé à la pêche, les fruits noirs (cassis, baies), rouges (groseille) et tropicaux (ananas) dans un artifice sensoriel. La saleté vient jouer les troubles-fête avec le caoutchouc crasseux, auquel s’ajoutent du bois camphré et des épices pour agrémenter le profil. On est presque à mi-chemin entre un TDL 2001 et 2003. Le mélange est captivant, savoureux et avec un alcool parfaitement intégré. La finale est très, très longue, avec de l’amertume herbacée sur le thé, de la fraîcheur mentholée mais aussi pas mal d’épices et de notes plus empyreumatiques (bois rôti, saleté). Le profil est plus sec mais n’en perd pas moins de sa superbe avec de belles fragrances fruitées sur le cassis, la pêche, les fruits secs et exotiques. Incontestablement un banger pour les amateurs du genre, une référence qui fait la renommé de ce jeune embouteilleur français en plein essor.

It was a standout for me last year—an exceptional 2003 TDL. The nose reveals mint, eucalyptus, and menthol, while the palate showcases red fruits like blackcurrant. The finish brings a hint of tea. Looking forward to more great releases from them.

Le Bottle Kill du week-end qui fait mal : Spirit Gallery Trinidad 2003 Spirit Gallery, jeune embouteilleur indépendant français, s’est fait remarquer récemment sur la scène du rhum. Après un premier embouteillage en 2023 un peu trop puissant à mon goût — un Belize 2007 titrant à 70,3 % —, cette nouvelle sortie est pour moi un véritable coup de cœur de 2024 ! Trinidad 2003 : Caroni ? Eh bien non ! Il ne s’agit bien évidemment pas d’un Caroni, mais bien d’un millésime distillé chez TDL (Trinidad Distillers Limited). À ce jour, TDL est la seule distillerie de rhum encore en activité à Trinidad, produisant principalement du rhum Angostura. Toutefois, elle restera longtemps (voire toujours) dans l’ombre de la légendaire Caroni. Ce rhum de mélasse a été distillé en colonne chez TDL en 2003. Il a patiemment vieilli pendant 21 ans, dont près de 16 ans sous climat tropical, avant d’être embouteillé en 2024 en brut de fût (BDF) à 60 %, en seulement 369 exemplaires de 50 cl. Notes de dégustation Nez : Fruité et gourmand, avec des arômes d’agrumes, de fruits de la passion et de sirop de fruits, accompagnés de notes de sucre brûlé et de menthe. Bouche : Plus expressive encore que le nez, avec un mariage de menthe, de fruits et de touches fumées. Finale : Longue et marquée par une menthe intense. Personnellement, j’ai adoré cette mise en bouteille, comme la plupart des TDL 2003 !

In meinen Augen ein top TDL. Sehr gut ausbalanciert. (Schwarze) Johannisbeeren, Menthol, Minze, etwas Holz. Alle Aromen kommen toll zur Geltung, aber wie fast immer ist der Alkohol bei TDL nicht sonderlich gut eingebunden. Nach etwas Zeit im Glas liefert er aber ab.

Wow... TDL in Perfektion? Die Nase hat schöne rote Früchte und leichte schön integrierte Minze. Etwas kalt aber gleichzeitig mit Kräutern. Am Gaumen explodiert der Rum. Die Minze ist fantastisch integriert mit Eukalyptus, Honig, roten Früchten und Kräutern. Wie ein Menthol- Kräuter Bonbon. Der Rum reagiert unheimlich intensiv auf Atmung und verändert sich. Der Abgang ist lang, trocken und intensiv. Ich ziehe mein Hut. Fantastische Fassauswahl.

Excellent Tdl avec les marqueurs menthol-eucaluptus /cassis poussés au maximum le nez est magnifique d'équilibre entre la trame classique menthol/cassis les fruits tropicaux un joli boisé des épices, petit côté weed et un caramel au beurre salé puis un léger côté "sale" sans aucune agressivité de l'alcool , la bouche est dans la continuité du nez avec beaucoup de fruits le boisé est assez discret vu le compte d'âge , un thé presque glacé à là pêche la finale est très longue porté par la fraîcheur mentholé

Gorgeous, brilliant mahogany color. Impressive nose of gourmand Moroccan mint. Complex blackcurrant and red fruit, animal but not too much, bordering on grenadine. The palate is frankly and freshly marked with mint and Italian grapes. I'm overwhelmed! The minty finish goes on and on to delight the taste buds!

Nez intense très porté sur le cassis, puis viennent le menthol et un côté ice tea typique de certains tdl. En bouche, les marqueurs précédents sont toujours la. Quelques épices se rajoutent. C est assez sec, avec une légère amertume. Finale moyennement longue. Tres Bon 2003, aurait pu gagner quelques points, s il avait été un peu plus gras en bouche.

Pleasant, mentholated nose, classic of a 2003 tdl, with a not unpleasant herbal, even soapy side, A few notes of red fruit follow. The palate is lively with mentholated red fruits, the alcohol is present, perhaps a little too much? The finish is dry and woody, and I would have preferred a little more sweetness.

Nez interressant sur le fruit rouge acidulé, cassis groseille, en bouche la trame très fruits rouge acidulé persiste. Un peu plus mentholé, un peu plus chaud. Belle longueur en finale.

Zu Beginn in der Nase frische Noten von Minze und Johannisbeere, mit etwas Luft gesellen sich karamellige Honignoten dazu. Die 60 Vol.% führen zu einem leichten, aber keinesfalls unangenehmen britzeln in der Nase. Am Gaumen macht sich eine wohlige Menthol-Wärme mit Aromen von schwarzer Johannisbeere, leichten Gewürzen und Honig breit. Der unendliche Abgang lässt eine wunderbare Menthol-Frische, mit einem Gefühl von Taninen der schwarzen Johannisbeere zurück.

Un TDL typique du millésime 2003 qui tend sur mélange de fruits rouges et de fraîcheur. Presque proche d'un vieux cognac borderies en bouche, avec un léger coté dirty pour se rappeller que nous sommes bien à Trinidad.
