Roots Diamond Guyana Rum SVL 2003
"Great SVL," one member called it — and most agree the nose is the best part: dried fruit, caramel, coffee and spice from this 20-year Diamond Savalle. The catch shows up on the palate, where several tasters find it thin and watery despite the 51.6% strength. Lovely flavors, just lighter in the mouth than the age suggests.

9,1:On the nose, surprising first impression with strong fruits like red fruits, berries, dried apricots, figs and charred, spicy wood with caramel, coffee, malt and nuts, very round.Quickly tropical fruits join the game... On aeration, the wood is smoky with nougat and bacon, the molasses brings out tea and tobacco, as the new fruit notes are dried dates, citrus, some raspberry. 9,1:On the palate, the attack is tasty with variety of fruits like dried dates, raisins, apricots, prunes and red fruits, berries. We think of a fruity, delicious marmelade, as the wood is charred with sweet notes of caramel, nougat, burnt sugar, roasted nuts and spicy, especially with clove. The molasses comes with tea and herbal touch, darker, as overripe, fermented tropical fruits like banana are in the second wave of notes, so are coffee and dark chocolate.Very round, continuous rum. 8,9:The finish is long, creamy with charred wood notes, dry, spicy, earthy, as the fruits are dried..

A positive surprise! Smooth, round, relatively sweet, herbal. A clear recommendation if you have the necessary change and can still find this rare rum.

#5166 22.03.2025 Tasting at Whisky Watcher Odense. Nose Fresh, medium intense, fruity, berries, light dried fruit, faint smoke, faint earthy, faint caramel. Palate Oily, wood, light roasted, dried fruit, light coffee, banana, light caramel, faint nougat, light spicy. Finish Long and warm, oily, wood, faint smoke, fruits, light tea, light nougat, faint herbal. Very nice rum that needs time to open up properly.

Light but very herbal in a good way. Very interesting rum. You taste the great quality in your glass, but it so light. Is this watered down? If so I wonder what it would taste like when stronger. Finish rather short to medium long but also really thin.

The nose is typical SV/SVL, relatively sweet with malt, caramel, some coffee, spices and also fruity notes. The taste is unfortunately a little too watery for me due to the dilution. Unfortunately, the finish is also a little short.

Good Savalle nose rich in dried fruit, dark fruitiness, sweetness, malt, spice and a little coffee. On the palate, the flavors are similar but a little weak on the chest: the dilution on one side makes it nice and soft, but also a little thin.

Nase: Karamell, Kaffee, dezente Fruchtnote.

Leckerer Diamond. Würzig Süße Nase mit Kaffee, rotem Pfeffer, Karamell und Vanille sehr Harmonisch. Im Mund Karamellige Süße etwas Kaffee, Vanille und Trockenfrüchte schöne Würze. Bitternoten halten sich auch in Grenzen.

I actually like the profile, but the bottling of The Roots unfortunately disappointed me a little. I think you can tell that the bottling has been diluted. A watery mouthfeel. The individual components are there, but they don't come through as well as in other bottlings of this style,

Sweeter on the nose, caramel, banana, apricot, a bit ashy (all so great), with the spices and barrel really coming in on the taste, leaving the sweetness behind. Some dryness, bitter chocolate. Finish a bit thin but follows the taste - a good dynamic with the nose!
