Barbancourt 3 Stars 4 Years
Vanilla, baking spice and a little woody dryness lead here, made from cane honey at Barbancourt in Haiti and aged four years. Most tasters find it light and thin, with prune and mild sweetness — pleasant enough but faint, and the 43% alcohol never fully tucks in. One member calls it a "basic hispanic rum" with a short finish. More of a mixer than a sipper.

How does Barbancourt 3 Stars 4 Years taste?
Aggregated from 70 community reviews.
Light, thin, better mixed than sipped Opinions land mostly in the middle: light, a touch sweet, vanilla and spice, but the alcohol reads rough and there's just not much flavor to hold onto. Better for long drinks.

I find that at less than 30 euros it is an excellent choice. To have behind your bar.

Très bon rhum vieux d Haïti

This is my favorite aged Barbancourt. You can taste the rum much more than the more aged expressions. It's similar to low ester Jamaican flavor. A higher abv would help. I drink this neat. I will rebuy. I suspect this has a bit of added sugar.

A rum tasted at the Lucerne Gin and Rum Festival 2024. An agricultural nose with bitter herbs, sweetness and yellow fruit. The palate begins smoothly, the aromas grow and the alcohol takes over. The finish is short with bitter wood. Not a very interesting rum, but well made and pleasant to drink.

Actually only bought it to compare it in parallel with its Pondon from the 70s, but already started to get rid of it. :-D Floral, for me, indefinable notes, a bit fruity, all very thin. On the whole, it's nothing.

Good, not too sweet, but nothing more
Review by Montana
A slightly fruity aroma, somewhat woody and dry. The taste is initially slightly sweet, then a little more bitter, slightly alcoholic.

The last one, in the background a few cool samples from Jarek :) Also a little too sweet, vanilla, wood and spices on the nose. Too much sweetness on the palate, especially vanilla and chocolate are recognizable. But unfortunately the alcohol is not well integrated either.

Again the price to quality is pretty good though this one I'd probably use for a mixer. You and sweet with fruit and light dryness.

Not enough of anything to be a reasonable sipper, better for mixing.

I haven’t had a Barbancourt I really enjoyed, and this one is no different. Hardly any flavor to speak of, and what’s there is relatively hard to distinguish. Some woodiness, some rounder baking spice notes, but overall forgettable and the finish is fleeting. Despite the lack of flavor I somehow get alcohol that isn’t well integrated even at this low proof. This was bought for cocktails.
