A rum tasted at Rhum Fest Paris in 2024. A rum raisin nose with lots of tropical fruit, esters, spices and pepper. The palate is elegant, with plenty of fruit. The finish could be a little longer, marked by citrus peel. Good value for money here. But don't delay, there are less than 1,000 bottles available.

Edit: Tried it again in a freestyle tiki, it's definitely a lot better there, so it's been adjusted upwards a little. How should I start? Blindly, I wouldn't guess Barbados but Jamaica. Gives a nice ester taste. But what I personally find annoying is that I have such a sugar taste on my lips afterwards. Unfortunately, this makes it too sweet for me, more like a liqueur, spiced rum or definitely with dosage. Even though it's not supposed to have any dosage. Unfortunately, that breaks its neck, I probably had too high expectations.

Blindly, I would definitely have guessed Jamaica here. Very nice, funky rum that's fun to drink. Unfortunately, it falls off a little in the finish and disappears too quickly. Nevertheless, a delicious rum and an exciting experiment from Barbados. Great value for money.

auf der Vulcan chamber still gebrannt (in batches). An der Nase bin ich bei low Ester Jamaika, mit kandierten Früchten, Würze, vergorenen Früchten, Chutney, dazu noch ein wenig grünes Gemüse. Am Gaumen ähnlich: kandierte Früchte, pflanzliche Noten.

Young and fresh with lots of esters on the nose plus citrus fruits, kumquat and yeast. The intensity increases on the palate and a hint of dirt is added. Not like the Caroniwerkstall but more like crazy Clairins. Or even better: like really good mezcal - slightly smoky! The finish is slightly bitter, blood oranges and licorice. Not bad and gives hope for further exciting bottlings!

Super exciting! I would have blindly guessed Jamaica, most likely Long Pond. More overripe fruit on the finish, almost reminds me of strawberry from Savanna Herr. Very cool!

#5030 04.01.2025 Relaxing at home with some samples. Nose Light wood, faint smoke, fruity, solvent, light sour, light pineapple, light citrus, faint caramel. Palate Oily, medium spicy, wood, light roasted, fruity, light metallic, light pineapple, medium intense, faint caramel. Finish Long and warm, medium spicy, wood, light roasted, fruits, light citrus, faint medicinal, medium intense. The empty glass has light chocolate, spice and a light sour note.

Netter Release, der auf mehr (und höhewertiges) in dieser Art hoffen lässt. Die Nase ist hier doch sehr anders als der Gaumen. Nase sehr Jamaica mit viel Ananas, Zitrus, Vergorenem, Ester und auchetwas rauchigem Speck. Am Gaumen dann etwas das nach Steinobstbrand/Kirschwasser/Maraschino schmeckt. Dazu auch etwas alkoholisch. Aber da ist mit etwas mehr Lagerung sicher noch viel drin.

Great complexity, on the nose still with plenty of fresh fruitiness, glue, wood, spices, heavy sweetness. Tart and spicy aromas are added on the palate, which is somewhat at the expense of the fruitiness and introduces a gentle but recognizable astringency on the finish; the profile is pleasingly broad and offers a lot. A great release and a promise for the future of West Indies rums.

Let me start with bottle - I rarely write something about the looks of the bottle but this label is just astonishing and in addition with the red wax capsule (not the plastic fake wax) a real gem to look at. But let’s proceed with the more important part: The nose starts of as a funky Jamaican with some sweet notes. Some wood and a lot of fruits are accompanied by Mezcal (?!). The alcohol is integrated really good, let’s taste it. Pretty strong, I expected something more elegant. On the palate the age is much more obvious. Nevertheless, funky, fruity and a nice smokiness. See details above. The finish is also young and Jamaican with some Mezcal. Overall a really nice drop and I am looking forward to try it in a Daiquiri.

Un vent de fraîcheur bienvenu sur l’île de la Barbade qui propose ici un rhum high esters distillé en alambic Vulcan. Le nez propose des esters élégants sur la colle et des fruits tropicaux généreux en première instance (banane, ananas, citron et son zeste). On retrouve toutefois un côté légèrement fermentaire et pâtissier sur le caramel, les fruits confits et le miel, puis des notes épicées sur la vanille et le piment qui viennent agrémenter ce profil rond, doux et très onctueux. La texture devient très sirupeuse et collante en bouche. Le côté pâtissier ressort avec les fruits confits, le miel et le sucre, qui accompagnent les esters (colle) et le fruité, encore une fois très exotique sur l’ananas et le citron. Le profil est très rond, moelleux, légèrement épicé et terriblement gouleyant. L’alcool est bien intégré. La finale, moyennement longue, se veut réconfortante, chaleureuse et tout aussi gourmande. Des notes salées et de réglisse s’ajoutent aux agrumes (citron), aux arômes sucrés de caramel et aux épices douces (vanille, piment, poivre). Un rhum au profil jeune, accessible et aromatique, avec un rapport qualité / prix excellent.

From the smell I would have guessed an unaged, fruity and fresh. The taste doesn't really pick me up. Very alcoholic and sharp-edged. Not a classic rum from Barbados, unfortunately. The finish is short and flat.

Heute ist dann Resteverwertung, aber vorab zwei anständige Samples. In der Nade haben wir hier viel Ester, sowie tropische Früchte, speziell Ananas. An Gazmen dann dasselbe, hier kommen dann aber noch Zitrusfrüchte hinzu.

Ce Stade's Rum, JAWS Barbados 2022 est plutôt typé Jamaïque que Barbade. Au nez il est déjà un peu exubérant et cela se confirme tout au long de la dégustation. Au nez des notes fruitées dominent avec des touches boisées et d'esters. En bouche, on retrouve le côté gourmand de la Barbade avec un côté agricole et esters. La finale plutôt longue est très agréable avec de belles notes agrumes et vanille.

Schon ein besonderer Barbade, ist er doch wohl auf der Vulcan destilliert worden und daher eher untypisch… Nase: jo, deutlich eher Jamaika als Barbados mit deutlichen Ester und sauer-süßen Früchten. Ananas, Orange und Zitrone sowie Kirsche und Banane. Die Zitrone wirkt künstlich, wie von Zitronat oder Spülmittel. Wirkt zunehmend süßer, Sirup und Karamell. Hinten leicht würzig und fein holzig. Angenehme und sehr intensive und raumerfüllende Nase mit leicht zu viel Zitronat. 8,1 Gaumen: Limette und Zitrone ganz vorne und wieder eher auf der künstlichen Seite wie Zitronat. Leicht bitter und doch süß. Zitrus-Sirup und irgendwie sich wieder Zitrus-Spüli. Die 57% passen gut, das junge Alter zeigt sich aber in der fehlenden Vielschichtigkeit. Aber ich glaube, als Mixer macht er sich sehr gut und als solchen sollte man ihn auch verstehen. Hat übrigens einen sehr langen Abgang mit Limetten-Ester-Sirup. 7,9

Difficile de penser à la Barbade à l'ouverture de la bouteille. On se penserait plutôt du côté de la Jamaïque. On est sur un profil modérément chargé en esters, un peu façon Clarendon. C'est très porté sur les agrumes avec une gourmandise barbadienne. C'est agréable mais un peu piquant pour moi. Et clairement cher pour un rhum de 6 mois. Edit : l'aération fait du bien à cette bouteille. L'alcool s'adoucit sans que les aspects intéressants ne disparaissent.

The nose is blindly reminiscent of a high ester rum from Jamaica and makes you want more, very fruity and intense. The taste is surprisingly dry, salty and smoky. It is subtly reminiscent of mezcal and has a little too much wood influence for me overall. I would have liked a little more fruit here in terms of flavor. The alcohol is also quite present. All in all, an exciting high ester experiment from Barbados!

Richtig schöne Jamaika Ester Nase. Und am Gaume dann so ganz anders. Die fruchtigen Jamaika Ester aus der Nase finden sich Geschmacklich kaum wieder. Dafür eine leichte Bitternote, etwas Plastik und Ester wird man sie eher von Fiji Rums kennt. Man wartet auf die Früchte, die aber nicht so kommen, wie die Nase es versprochen hat. Wahrscheinlich ist man einfach zu sehr auf Jamaika geeicht. Für mich ein spannender Rum, ich bin gespannt, was eine längere Lagerung daraus macht.

Des parfums de fruits exotiques avec l'ananas en première ligne, les esters sont bien présents mais plus modérés que ce dont à quoi je m'attendais. L'alcool est réellement bien intégré, les 56% passent comme une lettre à la poste. Une belle surprise venant de la Barbade avec cependant un manque d'intensité et de longueur, un vieillissement prolongé lui ferait sûrement le plus grand bien. Ce n'est que mon humble avis.

👃🏼 = les arômes de banane, d'ananas, d'olive, de la coco, de beurre, de fumée et le "solvant" agréable des esters sautent aux narines. 👄 = passée l'attaque vive et acide, dans une texture un peu crémeuse s'expriment une compote de fruits mûrs, l'olive plus présente, du miel, du citron et un peu de caramel débouchant sur une longueur pâtissière normale. Ce rum de Stade m'a fait passer un bon moment comme dans un verger tropical en plein soleil 👍

Cool twist from Jamaica and Barbodos, initially funk and fermented fruit. Very sweet on the nose. Then on the palate comes strong alcohol parried with honey, barrel and fruit again. The finish is over quickly but quite successful for sipping comfortably.

First tasting in peace and quiet with the buddy, on the nose I hesitate between Jamaica and a Clairin. This Olive comes out first, then esters, fruits, smoke... after a while, a vanilla appears out of nowhere, a surprise! On the palate, it's fruit and esters, against a background of Olive. It explodes on the palate, hard to grasp at first, but very gripping. The finish is a little short, showing that this is a young rum after all, but with another 10 years, it could become a folly! In short, you need to project yourself a little :) Nb: the clarin and Mezcal notes of the first nose come back in the glass. A superb discovery that's well worth the detour for lovers of Jamaica, clarin and Mezcal; that's for sure!

High-Ester aus der W.I.R.D. Vulcan Stil. Irgendwie hab ich viel erwartet, aber nicht ganz so viel bekommen. Definitiv ordentlich Ester, allen voran Zitrusfrüchte wie Ananas, Zitrone und Orange. Abgesehen davon aber irgendwie etwas dünn und charakterlos. Vielleicht gibt es hier in Zukunft noch etwas besseres, so ist es für mich keine wirkliche Bereicherung.

Kann mich hier den positiven Bewertungen nur anschließen. Relativ komplex, etwas in Richtung Low-Ester Jamaika, dazu eine Note, die mich an Dill erinnert. Schönes Mundgefühl, aber der Abgang ist etwas kurz und unspektakulär. Mal sehen, was hier in Zukunft noch so kommt.

High-Ester aus Barbados?! Interessant, prinzipiell schön fruchtig, mit dezenten Honig-, Holz- und Gewürznoten. Im Mund allerdings etwas scharf und unausgewogen. Sehr zitruslastig, floral erdig bzw. etwas modrig. Insgesamt gutes Mittelmaß mit Luft nach oben.

This is an interesting rum. It contrasts with Jamaican rums, it has a yeasty flavor profile, with mainly pineapple and tropical fruits at it's core. I also get a bubblegum note on the nose. It really worth trying.

The nose give prominent Jamician ester. Immediate taste is a young Jamaican and lays sweet on the palate. I get this weird lite floral soap after taste. It says it’s not dosed but there is a lingering taste that makes me 🤔

As most descriptions will mention, this Barbados rum tasted more like a Jamaican rum. It has a fruity, estery and slightly tart profile. It does not feel very complex though. It would be interesting to see how this rum develops with a few years of extra maturation in the barrel.

I have been holding off posting any reviews on RumX due to feeling the need to become "a more experienced and skilled taster" in order to keep data more qualitative and trustable. But today, after years of procrastination, It's finally time to make my first review even though I perhaps don't feel quite ready yet. But hey, you have to start somewhere, right? 🙃 JAWS has a lot of character and is interesting for its price point. It shares similarities with Jamaican distillates, having both aromas and flavors of fermented tropical fruits and marzipan, and despite the short aging it has quite nice cask-influences with subtle wood and pastry notes. However, to my nose and palate, it has this particular hogo-note that I also find in certain Savannas. To put it in an elegant way; it's this sour, rank barnyard funk aroma reminiscent of manure. To put it less elegantly, it smells like your feces when you are sitting on the toilet ultra-hungover after drinking two bottles of red wine the night before. This note is taking way too much presence in both the aroma spectrum and finish, and is simply too off-putting to me, bringing down the rating quite a bit. It's unfortunate, given that the rum actually is quite okay apart from this hogo-note. Alcohol integration is quite poor and I have mostly been using this rum for cocktails where I can mask this off-putting character a bit. Frankly, I'm quite "happy" that I've finally finished the bottle. Fun to have tried it and to get a glimpse of the WIRD Vulcan DNA, but I find it somewhat interchangeable (and even outshined) by a Hampden HLCF Classic.

Beaucoup à dire sur ce rhum. Pour une fermentation de 14 jours, distillé sur le john dore et le old gregg, j'avoue avoir été plutôt déçus. Je m'attendais à être bousculé un peu plus. On est clairement sur un produit très riche en substance volatiles mais la finale est plutôt courte. Il faut y revenir régulièrement. Le point vraiment intéressant c'est cette salinité (iode). La démarche est excellente et c'est un rhum à goûter.

After smelling it, I would have guessed MM Jamaica at first, but as soon as the glass is inhaled, the esters have disappeared, immediately there is a Barbadian smell of dried tropical fruits, citrus, maybe pineapple? The taste is much more complex. There's a youthfulness, but also a smoothness. Lots of citrus and citrus zest on the finish (to the point of bitterness), then the buttery esters again and the finish is bitter to the point of spicy. Definitely an interesting and atypical Barbados that is worth trying.

Un profil esterisé qui laisse penser à un clairin ou un low jamaiciain. Assez d'aromes fruité (tropicaux d'abord, puis tournant vers l'orange amère) et sucré (+ un soucpçon de fumé ?) pour être appréciable quand on n'a pas l'habitude de ce type de profil, dont il semble une bonne porte d'entrée. Le prix peut toutefois sembler haut à la vue de sa jeunesse.

I have bought this bottle at rum depot in Berlin, prior to German Rum Festival 2024. Very interesting rum. Similar to pagos and papalin haiti 4 for me. It is a very balanced rum with a eatery punch. Interestingly enough, a few months after a brand ambassador of Planteray referenced this rum. Nevertheless, a very well balanced rum. Relatively high in Esters but very well banned. Absolutely a recommendation to buy a bottle for this price point.
