Swell de Spirits Jamaican Rum High Ester Unaged (Rhum Fest Paris) 2024
Olive brine and ripe pineapple lead here, with lemon zest, overripe banana and a medicinal ester edge sitting right behind. This is an unaged Jamaican blend — several members read Hampden, New Yarmouth and Worthy Park in the glass — bottled white at 58%. The palate turns oily and buttery, fresher than the punchy nose suggests. Long, fruity, faintly salty finish that plays as well in cocktails as it does neat.

A rum tasted at Rhum Fest in 2024. Lovely aromas marked by fruit, especially citrus, particularly lemon. The palate is lively at first, then everything falls into place. A touch of olive comes through on the finish, which is rather long for this type of rum.

After a first attempt at Jamaican blending with the Arcade series rum, Swell puts the lid back on, but with a more aromatic and exuberant blend. The nose, focused on tropical fruits (pineapple and banana among others) and ripe citrus (lemon), has a nice medicinal tone on esters and glue, but also a hint of olive brine and vegetal notes, making it quite fresh despite its aromatic power. The attack on the palate gets off to a flying start with olive, vegetal and ester notes. Citrus fruits are very present (lemon zest), as are ripe exotic fruits that are greedy. The 58% reduction is most welcome here, allowing the aromas to emancipate and the juice to be easy-drinking. The finish is of medium length, with the same markers of the nose and palate returning with harmony and enthusiasm. The whole is fruity, vegetal and phenolic, retaining a certain intensity but also a relative sweetness that offers much to the profile. A lovely blend of Hampden, New Yarmouth and Worthy Park, pleasant to drink but also wonderful in cocktails.

A resolutely Jamaican blend, with a fine sense of integration. The esters are present, as are the very ripe fruits, but that's not all. The influence of Worthy Park and New Yarmouth can be felt, adding roundness. Interesting.

Notes taken at Rhum Fest 2024, Quick notes and a bit heavy palate, sorry :) We have here: a beautiful jamaicain, a rather confusing blend as it mixes olive, fruit and light esters. A rum: quite buttery all the same, it made quite an impression on me Finish: medium (but given the palate, it's hard to be precise), fruity I really enjoyed it!
