Don Papa Rum
Vanilla, orange peel and caramel, thick and candy-sweet — this is Don Papa's calling card. One taster nailed it as a "sugar bomb with orange zest"; others land on butterscotch, toffee apple, even bubble gum. Around 26-29 g/l of added sugar sits behind it all, and many members find it too artificial to sip. Loved as a first rum, dismissed by regulars as closer to orange liqueur than rum.

Very fragrant orange and vanilla aroma. Fruity and sweet on the nose. For the beginner a good, but from the aroma exceptional rum. Don Papa seems over the tasting slightly artificial and reminiscent of Dr. Oetker rum flavor. One likes him, or not.

On The Rocks: On the nose a very pleasant Vanilla and Butterscotch/Caramel Aroma with a very feint orange peel (almost like an orange pop float). Taste reveals a very nice Vanilla and Caramel Flavour with a mild/moderate orange peel undertone. Finish is medium length with the sweetness fading into a slightly bitter taste with the orange peel continuing to hide in the background. Mixed Pepsi Zero: On the nose a mild Sweet Aroma with a hint of orange and vanilla. Taste reveals a Really good Sweet Vanilla flavour and orange mixture. Finish is short with the vanilla orange fading away. This is an Excellent Mixer.

After a long time, once again took a wrong turn. The Don Papa is like an artificial medicine enriched with vanilla, caramel and orange flavors. While the nose is already irritating (high-proof Fanta), then comes the blackout in the mouth. Totally artificially medicinal, like a medicine you had to take as a child, but tasted awful, very sour. The three flavors pull themselves one-dimensionally from front to back. A rum this is not (more).

Well, this is just a missing tasting of Don Papa’s the most iconic rum, that popularized rum in Czechia in general. Even in my collection, there are several of them in nice tubas from nostalgy. Anyway, it´s not so sweet as Baroko, it has its place in Nico

The very belligerent Don Papa 7y has been one of my favorites so far. Now there is the new DP 7y, the Single Island. The old DP 7y was called Small Batch. This is all due to the new sugar regulation, which allows a maximum of 20 grams of sugar for a rum to still be called rum. However, it's the taste that counts and unfortunately I have to say that the new DP 7y doesn't taste as good to me as the old DP 7y. Much less sweet, orangey and vanilla. More spicy and some people will say it now tastes like "real" rum. Nice, but it's no longer one of my favorites :-( Anyone who liked the old DP 7y will now have to switch to Baroko or Masskara. Baroko is rather sweet and vanilla-like, Masskara more fruity. The old DP 7y is probably passé, what a shame :-(

Einer der besseren Don Papa's denn er hebt sich deutlich vom Baroko und vor allem dem Masskara ab. Fruchtig in der Nase, fruchtig, weich und mild auf der Zunge. Wurde auf einem Tasting ausgeschenkt und ich würde sagen für Einsteiger ist er ganz passabel.

yeah, this is bad. I don't understand how anyone can like this, rum-newbie or not. the tastes is just so artificial and strong, you just want to rinse your mouth of it. not enjoyable with coke either, wich almost every other rum is.

Pur ist er für mich kein Genuss. Zu künstlich und chemisch. Davon abgesehen schmeckt man Karamell, Vanille, tropische Früchte und ein Hauch Orange. Als Mixgetränk mit Cola finde ich ihn allerdings ziemlich gut.

Don Papa is not a good rum, one could even say it is dubious... But it has succeeded in doing what few rums have managed to do: arouse an interest in a world that many of us were unaware of until now and create a new passion. It is this new audience that allows distilleries to survive. In this sense, Don Papa rums are more valuable than the most expensive rums.

Reminds me of childhood summers. Vanilla ice cream, with a smaller serving of rum and raisin ice cream. And slight hint of cola. Very subtle coconut, though that might be the power of suggestion - the idea of swimming pools and sunblock. And finishes with the taste of banana sweets. Very tasty, as long as you drink it as a liqueur, not a rum.

The nose is full of orange and vanilla to an extent that it seems artificially flavoured. Some sweet spices linger in the background. The palette follows on from the nose quite well. It's extremely sweet. Some oak in the background makes me think the age statement of 7 years is true. The finish is rather short. A little perfumed but mainly sweet. It's hard to get away from that sugar. Overall, it is for somebody, but for me this is way too sweet and feel synthetic.

A nice sipping rum if you want something that’s a mix between cointreau and rum. Not a bad thing but the orange flavour can be a bit overwhelming. Nose is very much butterscoth and oranges, sweet and inviting. Plate is what you would expect, lots of sweet orange and caramel flavour. After sipping for a while there is more of an artificial and medicinal taste mixed in with the oranges. I would recommend a nice piece of dark chocolate to enjoy with your rum.

Tasted as a treat and to remind myself of the early days. Better than today's baroko, which is a syrup. Not so good. Medicated. Reminds me of Kraken. Vanilla and caramel + sugar syrup. Disgusting.

Der Standard-Don Papa Rum ist schön weich und süß mit viel Vanille, Honig und kandierten Früchten. Sehr leicht zu trinken, fast schon dessertartig. Für Einsteiger top, für manche vielleicht etwas zu süß – aber insgesamt ein echt angenehmer Rum, den ich noch immer gerne mal verkoste.

Better than Bacardi and consorts in any case, but overall still a very artificial taste. A touch of natural fruit flavors is overlaid by artificial sweetness. As a party rum for beginners possibly quite ok.

Rum aus den Philippinen, welcher in amerikanischen Eichenfässern gelagert wurde und danach mit anderen Rums abgeschmischt wurde. Zusatz von Zucker und Aromen läßt sich nicht verleugnen und die 40% Alkohol machen sich stärker bemerkbar als erwartet. Als Purer Genuss Rum eher ungeeignet und so vom Hersteller auch nicht gewollt. Er empfiehlt Don Papa Rum auf Eis oder in einem Cocktail. Dies spricht mich als Rum Genießer eher nicht an. Fazit: Ich verbrauche meine restlichen Flaschen am Lagerfeuer, wenn es eh keiner mehr merkt :-).

Well it is don papa, there is at least some spice and some hint of rum under all the artificial sweet orange notes. It is note terrible, more like the equivalent of McDonald's, there are times for it, just not really for me
