Chapter 7 Cuban Rum 1978
Toasted oak and burnt-sugar caramel lead here, with raisins, tobacco and a touch of nutmeg trailing behind — the mark of 45 years in wood. At 49.7% the alcohol sits well-integrated, and the sweetness typical of Cuban rum plays nicely against all that toasting. Members enjoy it but agree it's more pleasant than complex; a couple even wondered if it reads slightly boosted.

A rum tasted at the Lucerne Rum and Gin Festival in 2024. A beautiful nose with caramel, roasted pineapple, wood and herbs. The palate is smooth, as on the nose, it's very clean, no false tastes. The alcohol is present but perfectly integrated with roasted pineapple, wood and leather flavors. The finish is long for a Cuban. A very fine rum through and through, with no flaws. Not wildly complex aromatically, but very pleasurable.

Loads of woodspices. Not bad. Not spectaculair.

Alkohol erstklassig!

An interesting bottling due to the long maturation. The alcohol is very well integrated and it is great how the sweetness of the Cuban rum harmonizes with the toasting and the oak wood. It comes with a strong raisin note. Overall interesting because of the long maturation, but not super complex.

In keeping with its age, there are beautiful woody notes that work beautifully with vanilla, dried fruit and caramel. There is also some pineapple and coffee (with good intentions). Almost a little too sweet on the palate. Good rum, but in my opinion - in the tradition of old Cubans - clearly overpriced.
