J. Selga Torras, Manresa Ron Jamaica Superior

Most tasters land somewhere between "curious relic" and "let-down" on this one — and that's the honest verdict. It's an old bottling that drinks nothing like the Jamaican rum you know today: bitter burnt caramel, molasses and a little hazelnut over a thin, watery body. Several members peg it as unaged and artificially colored. Worth trying as a piece of history, not for the liquid.

A rum from the "Niki's und Arturs Jamaiksnische Aventurien Teil 2" series. The nose is not at all Jamaican, more molasses and bitter caramel. On the palate, the impression is of wood, but on analysis it's more the mixture of molasses and bitter caramel that gives this sensation. The finish is rather long, but still on the same flavors. A rather one-sided rum, but rather pleasant, as Spanish rons can be.

Ziemlich seltsam 🤣

Nikis und Arturs Jamaikanische Aventurien Teil 2: etwas bitter, Melasse, verbranntes Karamell, Kaffee, etwas künstliche Aromen, wahrscheinlich nicht wirklich gelagert.

Colored unaged rum from the 50s. Some caramel, hazelnut and molasses on the palate. Everything points to Spanish style. Could also come from Central America. Overall very watery and undefined.

Avg Rating 8.3/10 over 2,700 Rums

No rum is more imitated than Jamaican rum. This is the home of funk, the fruity, overripe-banana intensity that drinkers call hogo, made in the biggest pot stills outside Irish whiskey. When the rest of the Caribbean moved to the column still, Jamaica kept the pot still as its house style, and that stubbornness is exactly why its rum is so prized today.
