Beenleigh S.B.S Australia 2017
Most people land in the same place on this one: a well-made, easy sipper that doesn't reach far. The bourbon cask leads with caramel and roasted wood; the Oloroso sits behind with nutty, dried-fruit notes. A few tasters wished it were more complex, and one noted the Australian character mostly disappears. At 54% the alcohol isn't always tucked in perfectly.

How does Beenleigh S.B.S Australia 2017 taste?
Aggregated from 21 community reviews.
Easy cask-forward sipper, light on complexity Broadly liked as a tasty, cask-forward sipper. The common gripe: it's good but not complex, and the bourbon-and-Oloroso profile buries the Australian spirit.

Ich bin immer wieder überrascht wie gut mir der australische Rum schmeckt. Rostige und süße Aromen in der Nase wie am Gaumen. Der Alkohol könnte etwas besser eingebunden sein, grade weil es nur 54% sind. Trotzdem empfehlenswert.

This is with no doubt a well made rum, it's just nothing too complex. If you're looking for an easy sipper with slightly higher ABV (54%), then this might be a good choice for you. Yeah, it tastes good, yeah, it has nice intensity of flavours, yeah, the Oloroso does its job. But for me to rate it higher, it would have to be a little more complex.

Tasty Beenleigh. Lots of (Oloroso) cask but the spirit carries it fine. Easy sipper.

The bourbon cask is extremely evident here, both on the nose and on the palate. The oloroso cask is more in the background and complements the rum with nutty notes and dried fruit. Nice rum, even if I would have blindly guessed it was a bourbon cask strength rather than Australian! Unfortunately, there's nothing left of the Australian rum, so slight deductions.
