Cadenhead's Classic Rum Special Edition
Guyana runs the show here — dark, heavy, almost cartoonishly intense — and that's the whole story with this 17-year Caribbean blend. Dates, dark chocolate, coffee and tobacco sit up front, with a little Jamaican ester poking through the edges. At 50% the alcohol is well integrated, though a couple members note it's soft enough to drink almost like a fruit schnapps. Dry, spicy, long.

How does Cadenhead's Classic Rum Special Edition taste?
Aggregated from 12 community reviews.
Dark, Guyana-heavy 17y blend, dry and spicy Well-liked as an approachable British-style blend at a fair price, but several tasters wish the dominant Guyana would step back and let the other islands speak.

I tried it at a trade fair and it will definitely become my standard. 40€, 50% and a great blend from which you could taste many regions!

Cadenhead's does well with this blend from their permanent range. The nose moves from an ester-like Jamaican edge, to a little Panama roundness, then to a fair amount of dark Guyana influence: dates, dark chocolate, coffee and spices (licorice) don't get in the way. There's a hint of peanut butter too, which is rather strange but not unpleasant. Once in the mouth, it's like drinking a liquid candy. Tobacco, toffee, molasses and hot caramel combine with the dark notes described above to create a mix of flavors that is smooth and creamy on the palate. The alcohol is well integrated, but a few extra degrees would have spiced up the juice a little, which could be mistaken for a fruit brandy. The finish is of decent length, warm and spicy. The roasted, caffeinated and chocolate (dark) side comes out more with the alcohol. It's a pity that the Guyana remains ultra-dominant and doesn't let the blend express itself a little more, as it could have gained in aromatic palette and complexity. Nonetheless, this is a good, approachable rum in the British style.

Strange stuff ... but worth the experience.

Not so simple. Marriage of Barbados, Jamaica, Guyana & Panama. Dry, intense, but balanced. Nose: some fruits, orange peels, mango, rubber, sandal wood, cola nut, bright pencil shaving, and little bit esters. Taste: Sharp, dry. Woody, spicy, rubber, iodine, orange peels, tobacco & herbals. Nice salty part. I love it ) Aftertaste: medium, dry. Herbals, iodine, esters & some herbs.
