Precious Liquors Hampden House of Cane Jamaica Pure Single Rum <>H 2013
Poured neat, this is a classic Hampden <>H: glue and nail polish on the nose that blows off into grilled pineapple, mango and roasted almond. The palate is rich and juicy with overripe fruit, a little wood and cookie-like sweetness. Several tasters call the 58.8% "buttery" and easy to sip, and the funk sits at medium ester level rather than the sour extreme.

How does Precious Liquors Hampden House of Cane Jamaica Pure Single Rum <>H 2013 taste?
Aggregated from 49 community reviews.
Rounded, fruity Hampden funk done well Widely liked as one of the better 2013 <>H bottlings — rounded, fruity and well-balanced, with the alcohol tucked in. A few note it plays it slightly safe compared to wilder Hampdens.

From the freshly opened bottle, the rum starts off with intense funkiness. Very heavy on the glue and nail polish side of noses. With some time to breath it opens up end presents a nice Hampden nose. Grilled pineapple, some roasted notes and some almond paste mingling with the chemical notes as well as a sensation of freshness akin to fruit acid. Young <>Hs do work really well in book. Same on the palate: I just like this profile at this moderate age and this bottling is a good one of the vintage imo. Very rich on the palate with all the good stuff. Fruits, wood, roasted almonds and some sweetness. While intense, the chemical and glue-y notes are much less pronounced compared to the nose. Delightful stuff. Addon: Looking at a little 2013 <>H side-by-side today. On the nose the House of Cane bottling takes the crown with TCoR and Swells Constantia taking second place. The Nectar is the only real outlier, not able to compete with the pack. Roots comes with a bit more overripe notes, while TWJ is a bit stronger on solvent notes. Both are very nice as well. On the palate the crown goes to The House of Cane, again. Very high intensity with Hampden funk and fruits nicely balanced by some sweetness and cookie notes. CoR and TWJ both show an intense <>H profile as well, excellent. The SdS Constantia presents the most balanced profile. Very nice to drink indeed. Roots looses on the palate, unfortunately. There is a distinct note of lightly peated Whisky in the bottling. That’s not bad, but doesn’t benefit the rum imo. The Nectar, again, cannot fully win my heart. The cask presumably had less influence, leaving the bottling in a more alcoholic and less balanced state.

Once again a nice 2013 <>H bottling. Thanks to DomM for sharing. Brings everything you'd expect from it and even a bit more. Alcohol is well integrated and quite drinkable in my opinion. From memory, this one easily makes it into the top group of the other 2013/2014 <>H from the cross comparison we had already made.

Fruchtiger 2013er Hampden <>H mit mittleren Estern, tropischen Noten, etwas Würze und Zuckerrohr-Süße. Eingängig, zugänglich und spannend – ideal als Einstieg in Jamaika-Rum. Gutes PLV, klare Empfehlung!

On the nose there are the expected markers you'd expect from a <>H, but the whole is very round and balanced. Quite intense on the palate with lots of fruit and a still pleasant astringency. The finish is expectedly long.

Unfassbar leckerer intensiver, schwerer und dunkel röstiger Hampden. Dunkle Schokolade, Mokka, geröstete Nüsse, karamellisierte Ananas, Limetten-Schale und angenehme kräftige Ester. Richtig richtig gut!! Könnte blind deutlich älter wirkem. Wirklich geiler Stoff!

8,7:On the nose, it starts with typical funky Hampden markers like high esters, glue, nail polish, overripe tropical fruits like pineapple, banana and mango, roasted and spicy wood with marzipan, vanilla. On aeration, the molasses is vegetal, herbaceous, a bit flowery, sweet with honey, the wood spicier with cinnamon, roasted with dark chocolate, burnt sugar and confectionery.Citrus fruits like lime join the game on oxidation. 8,8:On the palate, the attack is funky, medicinal with esters, glue, tasty with delicious overripe tropical fruits, roasted wood notes like pastry, spicy with vanilla, salt and molasses with honey, herbaceous, vegetal with an olive. We quickly taste a bit sour side of this rum, but after some rest, by joining red fruits, we might think of tasting a marmelade. 8,7:The finish is long, dry with tannins, smoky wood and crunchy bread, roasted nuts, spicy, then medicinal with esters and quite strong rubber, the fruits are still overripe..

01.06.2025 Retasting while relaxing in front of the telly. Stille a very nice and fruity release with overripe fruits and intense nose. Love the fresh hint of coconut and faint honey notes in the profile. ---------------- #5377 30.08.2024-01.09.2024 Had a great time both before and after the event. Great Hampden. Seven years of tropical maturation make for a very round, intense spectrum that knows how to inspire. Esters from tropical fruits, citrus aromas, gallant sweetness from the barrel maturation - Hampden fans will find little left to be desired here. A successful release, very good!

Very tasty <>H from the 2013 batch. I can only agree with you: This one works very well and is definitely one of the better ones of the vintage. Nice spice on the finish. Thanks Dom for the sample and sharing.

A particularly well-balanced <>H from the current flood of <>H bottlings with somewhat toasty aromas. For me, it easily ranks among the top bottlings, but without reaching the class of a Nobilis No. 14 or a CoR HD 2013. Unfortunately comparatively expensive, I wouldn't spend the now €190 in German stores on it and would rather buy what I consider to be an equal bottling from Bottleshop (RX21615) for €50 less.

Solid 2013 Hampden <>H, medium esters with lots of fruit and a little wood. Medium finish. Definitely fun and can be a good introduction to the world of Jamaica. Fair price, can only be recommended.

Abgang Lang erst würzig dann bitter werdend. LECKER!

What can I say? This is exactly my cup of tea! Tropical fruits like pineapple, banana and mango, esters, associations of glue on the nose - simply a dream! Alcohol couldn't be better integrated!

Beautiful <>H with bold esters coming through in tones of polish and nail varnish, layered with tropical fruits like pineapple and citrus that pop right from the start. The palate follows up with intense and juicy fruit depth, a hint of lime peel bitterness, some spicy notes and a touch of sugarcane sugar sweetness. The finish leans a bit mild for my taste, lacking that final burst of flavours I’d like to sense, but overall, it’s a very nice Hampden that’s definitely worth a try!

Fruity, intense Hampden. Depicts the <>H Mark very well. I like it, intense nose with nice funky, fruity aromas. On the palate too. Spicy, slightly woody finish with lovely fruity notes. Intense 2013 Hampden<>H.
Review by Volkmar Weber
Wonderfully fruity with enough punch and funk, but without the acidity of the Hochester-Hampdens. An elegant, smooth sipper with complex depth and a buttery, harmonious 58.8% that you can't really smell or taste at any time. 2013 vintage, tropical and continental matured. A little pearl with a fine PLV.

Very decent and well balanced. Quite rare because this is a super banana heavy Hampden. Well done
