Hemingway Rum Papa‘s Pilar Dark Rum
Most tasters land on "sweet and easy" here, though a few find it thin or too sugary. Expect caramel, vanilla, chocolate and dark sugar up front, with cinnamon and a little spice behind it. How does Hemingway Rum Papa‘s Pilar Dark Rum taste?
Aggregated from 74 community reviews.
Sweet, dessert-leaning dark rum for casual sipping Well-liked by sweet-rum drinkers for its caramel-chocolate-vanilla profile. The catch: several find it a touch too sweet, thin, or a little hot, and the finish runs short.

Addendum: today in the Friendsgiving round on the Tisvj H: unanimous opinion: great rum and perfect bourbon finish. Never drunk before! I am an absolute rum lover. But as a bourbon fan, it's a great tribute to Hemmingway as a rum. My absolute favorite at the moment!

Again, quite thin, alcoholic and quickly gone. Toffifee with a little raisin and banana.... Unimportant, unfortunately.

Tasted this one at a rum cruise at the Baltic Sea. Nice bottle and story around it. It’s quite sweet, but the 43% ABV makes it balanced. The representative told me it was a blend consisting of rum aged between 4 and 25yo.

The taste burns a little on the tongue at first. It's sweet, but not as sweet as the scent. You can taste caramel, cinnamon, dark sugar, vanilla, licorice and a little oak. Medium aftertaste. A good relaxed rum, especially for lovers of sweeter rums. It’s quite smooth and good for casual sipping.

This is really good. Slightly sweet. Great sipper.

Day trip Baltrum September 2024. Sturm-Eck pub. Good rum selection for an average pub ;-) This one is too sweet for me. Nose consists of caramel, chocolate and coffee. Then chocolate, vanilla and spices on the palate. Average.

The last rum on Baltrum for today. The Papas Pilar from the United States. Already very sweet on the nose and this is also reflected in the taste. Nevertheless, all in all, it is good to drink

Bought directly on Key West. There on vacation he tastes better with Bob of course, but a tasty rum without edges. Quite short finish, unfortunately.

Smells like brown sugar and vanilla. Lighter not overly boosy. Tastes brown sugar vanilla and earth. No spice. Sweet on front end& light/butter. Caramel on back end.
Review by Peter Sjoroos
Better than expected. Not over sweetened and with some nice mix of caramel and spices.

Un unexpected gift from my university teacher. I really do like the shape of this bottle and the story of Pilar boat is very interesting. Aroma itself is very sweet, almost christmasy (chocolate, sugar and caramel with lot of spice). I noticed very intensive orange, cinamon and some herbs. Taste is very simillar to aroma. Sweet, lot of cinamon, orange and chocolate. I noticed lot of spice, but unfortunately the whole experience is ruined by the unpleasant alcoholic taste. Finish is short and it feels like you just ate the whole box of chocolate pralines (not bad thing at all). For me this rum will be good as part of some christmasy drink or as an ingredient of some sweets.

For me, nicer packaging than the inside of the bottle. A little sharper finish. Otherwise, for the price, it's certainly not a bad rum.

Read full review →The Cola and Dr Pepper references have been to often and any rum which tastes like a carbonated fruit flavoured soda is going to be very divisive. I just don't get this rum and I doubt many will. It's not unpleasant as such just very, very strange........
